Would it be cheaper to insure a VW Golf for an 18 year old as a name driver on my parents insurance ?

Question 1
Would it be cheaper to insure a VW Golf for an 18 year old as a name driver on my parents insurance ?...  I hear that a VW Golf is really expensive to insure for an 18 year old. Would it be cheaper if the car was insured for my parents and I was a name driver on that insurance ?

Answers
1)   well if your 18, regardless, your insurance is going to be higher then someone who has been driving for longer, so insuring it under their names and making the payments yourself might be best - stooe

2)   it will definitely be cheaper being a named driver under your parents insurance, but try to go for a company that lets named drivers build up their own no claims bonuses, because otherwise it's going to be just as harsh when you do start your own insurance up - Tony Montana

3)   any car's expensive for an 18 year old to insure, if your parents allow it goes down by loads, so do it! :D - EezeyBreezey

4)   probably but it may increase their insurance. Call up a company your not interested in getting a rate with and ask them. Or get your mom to. Then you call the company and ask how much it would cost with you alone and compare being on your moms to you being on your own insurance. Personally i think its cheaper to be on your mom's insurance. - Gella07

5)   Most companies use the highest risk driver to set the price now to combat the fraudulent activity that you are thinking of engaging in. Click the link to the BBC news website below for an explanation of insurance fronting.
Always remember that insurers will know about all the scams you can come up with and many more too. - Timbo is here

6)   What you're suggesting is illegal and the insurance companies are onto this scam. You have to have your own insurance in your own name and accept that for the cheapest car imaginable you'll be paying £2k+.
No other option unfortunately. - EvelynThe ModifiedDog.

7)   It is better to name an adult as a driver on your own Insurance policy.Doing it the other way around does not really serve a purpose as one day you have to "walk on your own two feet" You would be better off getting a really low rated car as a first car to enable you to build up some no claims bonus. Sadly, things will not change for you until you attain your 25 th birthday. - L G

Question 2
which car consumes less fuel?vw or?...  from all the cars which are the best for example vw, merz, opel , ford etc in drinking less petrol and giving more milage!

Answers
1)   A daft question: A diesel VW Polo will be more economical than a Merc GL with a petrol engine.
A Ford Ka will drink less fuel than a VW Phaeton
A Merc A class diesel will use less than a Ford Galaxy....

Bear in mind that a VW Passat TDi Bluemotion has just set the record for real world driving economy in a production car at 74.8mpg;

2)   if u want u can get a toyota corola or get a manual car - Steven

3)   ive got a 2 year old vw polo automatic which we bought new and the consumption is appalling!!! it's only a 1.4 and, it's still only got 11k on. i think though, autos have a higher fuel consumption than manuals, especially the way my wife drives it!! - steve p

4)   Any car can be made to have high fuel consumption and any car driven gently can be made to use less fuel. The biggest factor is the style of driving. There are many web sites on this topic. For example, hauling around a boot full of junk you do not need to carry will increase consumption. Heavy acceleration and heavy braking because you fail to read the road ahead is the biggest single factor for high fuel useage. Ther are other tips like coasting downhill out of gear which can be used. - L G

What's more a more powerful engine for a vintage volkswagen?...  i have a type 1 engine and one of my friends is giving me a type 4 engine that he doesn't want
which is more powerful?
whill it damage my bug if i put the type 4 in it?

Answers
1)   It shouldn't as long as everyting bolts up right. VW is really good at making everything fit.

A little tip, if you have the money and ability, a Porche engine will fit into the bug. They use the same style engines. - Nick

2)   There used to be a guy near me who put a porsche engine in his beat up old bug. Apparently it fit no problems. He used to burn people up at the lights but I don't know what (if any) chassis and other mods were needed. It was a sleeper car, he wanted it to look like a heap but no-one ever saw it coming.

Wiki has a page talking about the power of Type 1 and Type 4 engines...

3)   Turbo it. I have a 75 bug that I just finished, I have a 1835cc engine with a t3t4 turbo pushing 12 pounds of boost. Wanna talk about a fast bug there it is. And it didn't really cost me that much, if your looking for a great toy or fun daily driver that's the way to go! If you have any more questions let me know.

Question 5
I have a 2004 VW Beetle CPE Diesel that has 110,000 miles on it. Do you recommend I replace timing belt?...

Answers
1)   if you do need as of 100k miles and chk fuel lines ,injectors, plugs ,wires, filters ,seals, gaskits so it ready for another 180k good luck - crash24plz

2)   Most assuredly change the belt!
My VW has a gasoline engine and VW recommends replacing the belt at 100,000. I would think that the same applies to a diesel.
Are you the original owner? If not , try to find out if it has been replaced earlier. At any rate, VW suggests that timing belts be inspected every 20,000 miles for wear. Regardless of mileage, if it looks worn, replace it.
A friend has a turbo Beetle and she just replaced her belt at 103,000 . The VW dealer did it for abt. $700. This included replacing the water pump and other assorted belts as well as changing the coolant . She was happy with the price and the guarantee that accompanied the work.
Again, I'm not that familiar with diesels, but if a gasoline engine's timing belt breaks, it can cost upwards of $3 to $ 4,000 ! - fenton

3)   The belt should be changed every 80k miles. Bearing that in mind it will have been changed. However, if you can find no documented evidence in your service history book you need to change it pronto ! - L G
