How would A MECHANIC fix this ?

Question 1
How would A MECHANIC fix this ?...  My drivers side window to my 2003 VW beetle wont roll all the way up and it rolls back down by itsself so its probably a electrical problem my question is how would they fix this ? would they have tp take the whole door off ? or what thanks for the answers

Answers
1)   They would remove the plastic door panel to gain access to the window lift motor, window regulator, and electrical pigtail. - mrlavocat

2)   Nah, just pop the inner panel and change out the regulator assy. 200 for the part and 100 for labor, price varies by location, IE LA and NYC probably gonna go higher.

3)   They would have to take the inside panel of the door off. I presume this is a power window, and the electric motor is tired and needs replacement. - jimanddottaylor

4)   Does it sound like clattering noise when you operate the window? If it does then the cables are torn and the carrier assy. needs to be replace. They will remove the inner door panel and then the carrier. At least $200 labor at the dealer plus parts. You can also try sprayin the window guides or seals with lube like WD40, sometimes the seal just gets dry - Luis

5)   they'd take the panel off and what they would see is a teeth set that was missing about 4 teeth. So the part that MESHES with it can't raise the window all the way.

the same thing happened to my car but the fortunate thing is it's on my passenger door. I just keep it up all the time. I don't care. - I sentence you TO DEATH

6)   I had an older vw with a similar problem. Does the window "fall" back down or does it roll down exactly the way it would if you were to press the down button? If it rolls back down the problem could just be the switch itself - karl

1)   The only way to know is to take it to the track!
If a modification was done wrong, it can do more harm to performance then good. Meaning that it could be slower then stock just because the mechanic just slapped parts on a worn out engine. - Old Man Dirt

2)   No way to know without driving it that1/4 mile. All those specs don't mean squat! - Gerry

3)   Yeah, I buy all of my cars based on 1/4 mile times too. - Richard R

4)   OK first off, the specs you list have bad things/errors. I suspect you misheard/miswrote/misunderstood.

1. Removing the Cat is bad and not good tuning!
3. OEM headbolts is a ticket to disaster or else the rest is a lie.
4. CAMS, really?
5. Autotech light flywheel and stock clutch- Why? Won't last if you use it.
6. OBD 1, you gotta be crappin me???????? And no Cat, who is suckerin who here?

Run from this monster now.

I can just slap parts on a car willy nilly and then talk excitedly and never make anything any better, which is what they seem to have done here.

Question 3
VW Jetta- can I swap a 90 amp with 120 amp alternator?...  Don't know what the car has in it. I am working on this car this weekend and want to order the part ahead of time. I want to get the 120 if I can (same price) and put it in there.
It's a 2000 VR6 by the way.
Here's the information on the 120amp:
Which is the 120 Amp...
Duralast Import/AlternatorFor your 2000 Volkswagen Jetta 2.8L SFI DOHC 6cylPart Number: 12097... this means they made it for the for V6 as well.

Answers
1)   120 amps is alternator for TDI diesels,VR 6 is 6 cylinders engines, that's mean different block and different mounts, but you ask dealer shop for exactly right information. - Goran

2)   Technically, yes; but it may not fit. It isn't the amps that matter, but the size/fittings of the alternator. - James Attfield

3)   Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!! they are both wrong. You need the pully assy from the old one on your car and you may have to split the case and rotate the halves to get the mounts to line up. With Bosch the big fear and difference will be the shaft length where the pully and spacers attach. You need to know how far out yours extends and how far out the one you are ordering does.

4)   I take it you will satisfy yourself that any replacement has the same mountings and it is just the output that is greater ? There is no problem with having a higher output charger on your car, vehicles such as Police cars have them fitted to enable them to stand with various flashing lights whilst protecting accident scenes etc. - L G
