What should I expect to pay for a new clutch and gearbox in a vw touran? And to fit it?

Question 1
What should I expect to pay for a new clutch and gearbox in a vw touran? And to fit it?...  I am about to give the dealer the go ahead to order and fit a new gear box and clutch but feel I need to check out the cost first. It is a lot of money. Any advise etc. welcome. Thanks
It is a 2L deisel with gear box bearings scortched, flywheel is all broken up - that's how I knew something was wrong, it was making a knocking noise.
Car is 5 1/2 years old and I was given a quote from the vw dealer of £3,000. A bit shocked at the quote hence asking the question here. I will get a break down of the costs of parts and labour I think but this includes all work done so far in stripping it down to find out what the problem was.
What and who are the gear box specialist please?

1)   You don't mention what engine it has, which will turn out to be quite important. If it's the 1.6/2.0 petrol I'd expect a decent garage to charge somewhere around the £300 mark, maybe double if you go to a VW dealer. (Don't)

If it's a Diesel you're about to discover one of the major drawbacks of these things. If the dual mass flywheel needs replacing (which it probably will) then you're looking at £700-£800 at a garage, again double at a VW dealer. - EvelynThe ModifiedDog.

2)   Evelyn is quoting new clutch prices. If you are going to add in a gearbox as well then a reconditioned one will be around £900.00 plus clutch costs. If you are going for a new VW gearbox it will be a lot more. Ask the dealer- it may be that the costs exceed the value of the car. - Timothy L

3)   Why would it need a new gearbox? Clutch, and resurface of the flywheel, I can understand. - djaca70

4)   You should not give the dealer the go ahead without them giving you the cost ! You do not state the age of the vehicle, I assume it is outside the warranty ? This is likely to cost you at least £3,000 have you not tried some of the independent gearbox specialists ? - L G

Question 3
2000 Jetta clutch won't go into gear? HELP!?...  I was driving my 2000 Jetta and all of a sudden, when I put my foot on the clutch I felt more heavy vibrations. It was harder to put the stick shift into gears then about 20 seconds later, it wouldn't go into gear at all. I pulled the car over to the side and turned the hazards on and when the tow truck came four hours later, the battery completely died as well. Has anybody ever had this problem before or know of a cheap way to find out the diagnostics? I am a college student and am barely surviving so money is definitely an issue. If you have any information about what might have happened and what I can do, I would be so grateful. Thank you so much!

1)   It seems to me you will need a new clutch, but go on face book or ask around to see if someone can repair it for you and buy the part online for about $60 and have someone put it in for about $150 to $200. If you take it to a shop it will cost you roughly $500 to $700. - Tim

2)   Is your clutch hydraulic operated? if so, you should check your clutch hydrualic
master cylinder reservoir and if it requires fluid you will need to fill with clean brake
fluid from a sealed container (brake fluid draws moisture). - Pat

3)   ouch... It sounds like either your linkage to your clutch is broken, or your clutch is gone. In a simi you could float the gears, but you sound stranded. Hope for the first, the broken or disconnected linkage. Actually as Pat mentioned, hope it is hydraulic and a change of fluid works. Hydraulic is another type of linkage. - TeQuest

Where can I find a vw golf for cheap?...  Around Lewiston auburn

Answers
1)   Hey genius, it would help if you put down what state you are in. If you are not in the US, the country you are in. Ever hear of a newspaper, or pennysaver, or perhaps thesamba.com, or vwvortex.com? - djaca70

2)   There's one on craigslist for 2k that needs a new engine but has a supercharger. Otherwise I don't see a whole lot in your city so you might have to drive around to get one.
