VW Beetles for sale???

Question 1
VW Beetles for sale???...  Hey am starting driving soon and would really love a VW Beetle (not the classic one like Herbie) i was wondering if anyone know any good websites for them that are cheap? am willing to pay up to 3 grand which is a bit unrealistic but am hopeful!!? thanks

Answers
1)   www.autotrader.co.uk - Jimmy Jones

2)   dont get a vw, get a ford or a chevy more reliable and much safer. - Dom

3)   You should not have a problem finding one. They quit making them due to many complaints. - sensible_man

4)   £3,000 will easily get you an early 'new' beetle - but as a new driver, get some insurance quotes first.
The early ones were 2 litre only, they'd be very expensive for you to insure (probably another £3,000 a year). The later 1.6 models are only a couple of insurance groups lower, so get some prices first. Try a comparison site like Tesco Compare. - J G

5)   Search on Craigslist. Plenty of dealers and private sellers out there.
vwvortex.com also has a classified section. - Jay S

6)   You could also look on ebay, make sure you view the car with a skilled mechanic before bidding as you could end up with a load of rubbish. - Nick C

we checked the spark plugs and they working good and are also recently changed less then 6 months ago. There is a air sensor that clicks loudly and out of no where. and also there is a little vacum leak...what do you think bro?

Answers
1)   new sparkplugs bro get them :/ - Jake

2)   sounds to me like your car desperately needs a major service - robin y

3)   Well Dude, you should not have an air sensor clicking so I am not sure what the problem is with that. A vacuum leak it should not have so sort that out for starters and see how things improve :+) - L G

4)   may be the prob is with the Spark Plugs buy the best spark plug for gettin' better performance - Sara

5)   Any vacuum leak can cause an issue so i would get the fixed but i would also look into coil packs. If its a turbo motor especially. Go to autozone or pepboys they should scan the car for free. report back with your findings in order to give a better answer. - sean

Question 3
Girly car? PLEASE ANSWER!?...  Is a black jeep compass a girly car??

Answers
1)   Kinda... get a Wrangler! TJ tho, not a luxury XJ - miltonbaseball7

2)   I wouldn't think so, the colour and the fact your car is a 4x4 is quite manly, I wouldn't imagine a woman driving one. - Martyn

3)   Why did you ask this under Volkswagen? - Jesse

4)   There is nothing "girly" about driving small, fuel efficient cars. I am perplexed at the need of some to drive big "manly" pickup trucks when they have nothing to haul. I do not enjoy paying for petrol. - The Enchanting Wizard of Rythm

Question 4
What do you think of the Volkswagen Routan minivan? Is it really a Chrysler in disquise?...  Why is it that when ever I a see a Volkswagen Routan (which isn't often)--that it looks so similar to a Chrysler Town & Country? I like the way it looks and all, but if it's really a Chrysler, then I wouldn't want it because they are said to be junk. Are there any good minivans left out there?

Answers
1)   I think that your hunch about the Volkswagen Routan minivan being a Chrysler in disquise is right.

If you are going to buy a mini van go with this one.
http://www.consumersearch.com/minivan-reviews/2010-honda-odyssey - J*LUVZ*A

2)   Yes the Routan is a Town and Country/ Grand Caravan incognito. But with good reason, they are the first and best minivans on the market. The 2010 Odyssey is out of production btw to make way for the 2011 which is Absolutely hideous. The T&C's are reliable, comfortable, and a great value. I like the Routan but your paying for the VW name which is a bit pointless. - Landon

3)   Maybe you don't like the Chrysler name, but minivans and the Ram trucks are the one ace that the company has. Excellent vehicles.
And yes, the Routan is a rebadged Chrysler, so don't pay a cent more for the VW over Chrysler/Dodge. - Jay S

4)   It is in fact a T&C, built on the same Canadian assembly line, although VW breathed on the interior and the suspension to give it more Teutonic tone. - Windowphobe

Question 5
Are VW TDI cars good reliable rigs?...  I'm looking into getting a TDI VW. As basic as possible with a manual tranny. But I have a couple of questions.

Are VW TDI's with a manual transmission reliable cars?
Are they easy/hard to work on(the actual work itself not the need of special tools if any)?
Are there any major problems with a specific model/year that I need to keep an eye out for?
Any common part failures?
Are they difficult to convert to run on B100?

Thanks
link? TDI or gas motors? auto or manual tranny?

Answers
1)   Consumer reports reliability as well below average - pickmefirstplz

2)   If they are looked after they are bullet proof.

Service the higher performance once more regularly than usual (oil change at least) and use the right oil.

DMF - most manual VW's with the TDI engine suffer at some point (main symptom judder under full load accel from say 45mph in 4th gear)

Turbo - usually coked up vanes cause the probs (mostly on the ones that have been driven like miss daisy / not serviced regular)

Stay well clear of the MK4 150 TDI everyone i have seen has had a failed turbo at some point. you would be better getting a 130 and remap.

Bonnet cables prone to snapping on MK5

Brake light bulbs go for fun Mk5

Model of choice - MK4 130 GT TDI - MK5 2.0 TDI GT Sport (140 or 170) - MK6 GTD

The thing about these VW TDI (especially the PD's) they like to be thrashed to keep them clean and free running. Drive it like miss daisy all the time and you will have problems. Thrash it and it will love you for it.

VAGCOM (rosstech) is always a good investment for a VW (about £250) but paying for three scans at the stealers will pay for it. - PHIL B

3)   We have a VW Golf TDI as a company car 90 k miles and the engine is brilliant. However, it had the DSG auto gearbox and one of our staff put it into park before he stopped ! It had to have a new box. My neighbour had a Passat 130 TDI with 134k miles, the engine was perfect. The only things you really need do is strictly follow the oil services and always replace the oil filter element and use top quality oil. You must use the correct VW "red" coolant and ensure you change the cam belt and all tensioners and idlers about 70k miles. The engine will be good for at least 200k miles. - L G
