2)   Volkswagen was originally founded in 1937 by the Nazi trade union, the German Labour Front (Deutsche Arbeitsfront).[2] In the early 1930s German auto industry was still largely composed of luxury models, and the average German rarely could afford anything more than a motorcycle. Question 3
I am being charged $580.00 for upper and lower control arms on a 2001 Passat. Fair deal?...
Installation included.

Answers
1)   That is not a 1961 beetle. VW's are not cheap "peoples' cars" anymore. Pay up. Back in '61 the mechanic might only charge $25/Hr. Today it's $100/hr. - don r

2)   From what I've seen, it's extremely rare that a VW dealer charges a fair price for parts n labor.

Next time, Honda or Hyundai. - Squeaky Wheeler

3)   No, so why are you replacing the upper and lower control arms? That sounds pretty insane. Has to be a REAL reason to be changing out your front suspension. Need to know, just one side (2 arms) or both sides(4 arms)?

Don't let the rude jerks put you off, they were run out of Honda and other places and just live to insult us.

Question 4
Black or White 2011 Volkswagen Jetta?...  Which color is more elegant for a 2011 VW Jetta? Black or White?

Answers
1)   black is sexy and you cant tell how dirty it gets as easy as white - homocide13

2)   I've always liked black on a car. It gives it a sleek look, but it is harder to make it look clean. - Frontman

3)   I had an Alpine white Jetta in 1991 . If I were to buy another one today , I would buy either another white or the steel gray color . Now I have a 2008 black Jeep Wrangler and it always looks dusty and needs to be waxed twice as often as white .

I noticed that some cars look good in certain colors . For example , German cars look good in white , but pickups and some Japanese cars don't . Also small cars look better in white because they have the illusion of seeming to be larger . - Caltex

Question 5
2000 VW jetta VR6 Temp issues?...  My 2000 VR6 is having overheating problems, the radiator hose has been replaced now when driving short distances the needle jumps up to 190 and I have yet to see it go higher. This seems to be a bit high.

I have looked and not found the average running temp anywhere.

What is the average running temp at 30k RPM's?
And what is the best way to test the temp sensor and water pump on this car?

Ty In advance!

Answers
1)   190 is fine, that is considered to be operating temp.

If it goes higher, check coolant level. VW's are known for water pumps sheering off internally, so its always something to consider if problems arise, but for now I'd consider your car fine. - Ryan Burwood

2)   on VWs the fans kick in at about 212 degrees which i believe is boiling point but because the system is under pressure the boiling point is raised. for many years it was known that to run these engines at hotter temperatures causes the engine to run at peak performance as well as the engine putting out less emissions which was required by the EPA. i do believe that your running temperature is in the optimal range for that car. if it were going to actually overheat you would indeed know it very quickly because the pressure in the system would exceed the coolant cap pressure release rating thus blowing coolant everywhere - Al

3)   You have a 190 deg F thermostat and what you describe is where it ought to be- Did you never look at your gage before this? These bad boys warm up in a real quick time. have you driven it 20 miles in one shot yet?

Water Pumps do not shear off and that dude is a weeney. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

The other guy is just to wishy washy for anyone to trust, even though he is right. Not a good thing in a tech.

IF your VR6 ever hit 30K RPM the metal parts would be blasted into orbit.

You should use an infared thermometer to measure at strategic locations around the engine and verify that your gage is close. My Diagnostic scanner also reads the PCM temp sensor to check it to.

Go drive it and time will tell, go around the block for 20 miles so you can quit if it gets too hot, and if it doesn't get too hot, you are good.
