VW Golf (automatic) design fault?

Question 1
VW Golf (automatic) design fault?...  Have you ever accidentally and inadvertently had your foot stuck on both accelerator and brake pedals at the same time on your VW Golf?
The harder you try to brake, the faster you go, and when it happened to me and I took it to be repaired, the body-shop chap said "Oh, yes, - it happens quite often. The pedals on these small automatics are too close together, and the gas pedal is too low, so it's easy. You'd be surprised how many we get in. "

Is he right?

Answers
1)   yes - meetAnks

2)   i own a garage in uk ..its not the car...its your driving style ..you need to learn to drive it properly ..only use your right foot ..and when you brake you need to move your foot over more before you brake ..and raise it so you dont jam it inbetween ..just a bit more practise ..there are millions of golfs on this planet and we have never had that problem show up before - boy boy

3)   Are you American by any chance, or do you just have huge feet? - EvelynThe ModifiedDog.

4)   That's nonsense. You can rest assured that if this was a "built in fault" VAG would have been sued by now. I can easily drive my companies 2006 DSG Golf TDI in my steel toe capped work boots which are size 9.5. - L G

5)   Yes, it happened to me, and it is not true what the other postings say. I think it's faulty design, because I'm a careful driver, passed the Advanced Test.
It was lucky, it was only a driveway wall I hit, but it could easily have been a child or old person.
PS I'm not American, but what has that to do with anything? My shoes are size 4. - avis

6)   The guy who ran me down and left me with a limp owned a garage. No qualification to assure anyone of anything, rest assured.
But to answer the question, yes, my neighbour described exactly that, and I didn't believe him until I went to look at it. It's true, and the smaller your feet the easier it is to get them stuck. It cost him his no claims bonus, and as another posting said, it could have been a fatality, not just an accident.
just a question, - why are ignorant people on Answers always the rudest and dogmatic? - Cosimo

Question 2
Is there any chance of me getting insured in a mk2 golf 1.3?...  i'm 17 and just passed my test :)

is there any was of getting some sort of classic car insurance to lower the price thanks!

Answers
1)   Volkswagen Golf of any age is not a classic car, classic cars have to have been built before 01/01/1973. Yes you can get insurance for the car but it's going to cost you lots because of your age. The only thing you can do is shop around and maybe look for restricted mileage policies, I also wouldn't bother with fully comp it's too expensive for you. You could try getting pass plus training which may help reduce your costs but do not consider getting your parents to front you on their insurance policy. - ragingmk

2)   dude, thats gonna cost you a boatload of dosh. Dont do it, it aint worth it believe me. Get another car .Insurance is a nightmare for youngsters. - HERBIDACIOUS

3)   its your age that raises the cost ..take out insurance to only drive in daylight hours ..and restrict your milage per year ...most accidents ..serious ..are with young men .at night - boy boy

4)   Yes you will get insured unless there is something very unusual about one of the very many things that determine the price.
You will not get classic car insurance at 17 and even if you could it would be useless as the restrictions on the miles you can do and the use, like no commuting to work or study, would mean you could hardly ever use it.
Cost will be around £3000 a year and loads more if again there is something detrimental in your insurance profile like having to keep it parked on the road or you are a student, unemployed or live in a higher car crime record postcode. - Timbo is here

5)   You need to ask a few insurance companies this question because you're getting a lot of wrong info here.

You will get insurance for a Mk2 1.3 Golf at 17, but it'll still be quite dear, there's nothing you can do about this apart from get a bit older and not crash.

You CAN get classic insurance on a Mk2 Golf, the youngest of which is now at least 17 years old. Different insurance companies have different ideas of what constitutes a classic car, some will accept a car at 15 years old.

You CAN get classic car insurance at 17, I'm in a classic car club and a few of the younger guys have managed to insure things like Austin 1100s, Minis, VW Beetles etc at 17, so again, ask around.

It'll still be well over a grand, though. - EvelynThe ModifiedDog.

6)   The cut off point for a classic car is actually 12 years of age per Adrian Flux Classic Insurance. I have a 1981 Saab 99 Turbo so insured. As a young person I am certain you will not be able to avail yourself of this as the broker will question you about driving experience and years no claims bonus. I had to send proof of my NC bonus although I was assured it was not "being used" for the classic policy. Sadly there is no way you can defeat the Insurance system without being untruthful. You can "help" your quote by naming an experienced driver as a "named driver" on your own insurance policy. - L G

Question 3
Could I bring a 2010 Volkswagen Scirocco from Europe to the US?...  Well I was playing NFS: World and I got the Volkswagen Scirocco and I mean this car is amazing...I just love the design and the rims and all the nice stuff. I liked it so much I asked myself if I could bring it over to the US from Europe. I know that the equivalent of the Scriooco in Europe is the Golf GTI in US, but I don't like the look of the Golf GTI as much :(..I mean is it possible to bring it over and have no problem? like would you have to change the engine I mean unless its not diesel engine or maybe I'm wrong I don't know. If anyone can explain please that would be great n_n

Answers
1)   I'm pretty sure you can bring the vehicle into the US, so as long as it meets the standard emissions in the US. - JLine

2)   No you cant. It isn't made for the US for it doesn't meet US emissions. It meets the European emissions because that's where its made for. - emiller1998

3)   The final authority would be the US Customs Service. If the car is "used" and you were living in Europe when you got it - they might let it in. Or - if you go to Europe for a month or so and drive it on an extended tour - they might let it in.
If you live in a state with picky smog tests (NY, NJ, CA) you might have some trouble passing the smog test - you might have to go to the "special" smog test station.
Changing the engine is most likelly not a possibility. The car will be viewed according to the model and serial number as built and what certifications were made by the manufacturer.
Customs might give you a "waiver" since you are a private owner of the car and NOT in the business of importing and distributring cars. You will have to ask them. - Thomas E

4)   last 2 ans pretty good accurate,

korrect but in addition 2 emissions

u also HAVE 2 meet safety standardz - v

5)   It has no twin here so DOT is never gonna bite and let it in.

The emissions, probably can be fixed due to the fact it has an engine drivetrain that is already certified and all the parts/computers are out there.

Nah, the DOT is gonna bag you over all the "GLass" WTH is that about? Side Marker Lights are wrong - can't bring it in! They are evil. We haven't even discussed that it is not crash certified and you cannot fake that one.

ASE Cert Auto Tech, since 1978, I actually service Gray Market Cars and some are VW's just not the NEW Scirocco - sci

Question 4
Which is better the VW Jetta or the Chevy cruze? And y?...  Which is better the VW Jetta or the Chevy cruze? And y?
We have a truck and the gas is just killer.
We have two kids under two and saving money is a priority now.
We plan on getting a car in the next 6m - 1 yr.
I really love both cars but we are having a hard time choosing one.

Thanks for the help.

2)   Vw has better quality an reliability, I think their standards have gone lower in the past few years but still better than chevy - Smith Bobjoe

3)   Don't take buying advice from anybody here. Read a professional review.

http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com/2011-volkswagen-jetta.htm

http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com/2011-chevrolet-cruze.htm - Steve Wilcox

4)   I wouldn't buy either.

But I'd never buy a daewoo (cruze). Find some other options. Maybe something like a ford fusion. Don't just buy a car because it get's good gas mileage...because it might not be well built and/or pleasant to drive.

There are a lot of cars that get 30+ on the highway that don't drive like sludge. - Hank Scorpio

5)   Jetta. I've at least sat in both. the Cruze already felt flimsy and the guage cluster gets hard to look at after a while. The 2011 Jetta was much simpler and solid feeling, it also doesn't have chrome everywhere. - AMERICA!
