1)   Go to B and Q, get a roller and tray, and 5 litres of Dulux. That's a cheap flash over. - Hairy Jim

2)   how much do you wan to pay? - J R

3)   Hairy Jim's almost right. I once did a Hillman Imp with white Dulux and a good brush, I even used 1000 grade wet+dry sandpaper first for a professional job! - Atavist

4)   Your looking for a cheap re spray . . . . You get what you pay for and a cheap one will make the car look worse than it is now most likely. - who_is_jack_shit

Question 2
what would be a good price to charge for changing the water pump on a 2001 vw jetta?...

Answers
1)   if its for a hot chick or a mate do it for nothing ! - mr VR6

2)   shouldn't be more than about £25, but you must make sure theres anti-freeze in there at this time of the year! - Jon

3)   £25!!!!???? You're on drugs! The part alone would cost that.. then there's the antifreeze, and the labour to do it.... You're going to be looking at least £125 dependent on engine. You don't mention whether it's diesel, petrol, what size, auto/manual.... Air con or not, it all depends on the exact spec of the car. - Hairy Jim

4)   Which engine?

Also, in order to change the water pump, the timing belt needs to come off, so it is recommneded to do a timing change anyway.

Maybe $500-$600 USD - cant_think_of_1

5)   I just had the water pump changed on my jetta (but it's a 96, so this may not be helpful at all). My guy charges 60$ an hour.
The water pump cost 43$ and he said it was one of the cheapest water pumps he's seen in a long time,
The problem was that apparently vw waterpumps are real pains to do. My dad who had vws for decades said the same thing, so the part will be cheap, but I guess the actual replacing is going to be tricky.

If they're still as tricky as they used to be then you may want to consider that. (if it is a for a friend, I'd say i'll give you the part, and you just pay me the labour) - Samantha

Question 3
what is wrong with the radio on my 2003 jetta?...  this morning my 2003 jetta died in my driveway after being running for 15 minutes. it then wud not crank. i jumped it off and it ran fine. the radio stopped working after this. it is not on "safe" mode. its not locked.. it will turn on but i do not hav any sound and use of any of the buttons.

Answers
1)   It's in a VW. - HunterNIU

2)   Sounds to me like your radio isn't working, you should fix it and it will work fine again. - Dan Theman

3)   try to pull the fuse from the rear of the radio or from the cars fuse box, take it out for a minute or so then replace, sometimes this can reset a radio after a power failure, hope this helps. also if there is a reset button on the radio just try that. - tomis

4)   If the radio is tuning on (which I assume you mean the LCD display is working) but there's no sound or functionality, it's probably any issue with the Monsoon amplifier in the driver's side of the trunk. Seems like you generated an electrical surge when jumping the car, check the fuse and go from there. - gti_4cefed4

Question 4
Which is faster and more reliable a 2000 Volkswagen Passat or a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta?...  Im buying a either one but i wanna know which is faster and reliable.

Answers
1)   they're both about the same in terms of reliability, and that reliability level is basically crap after it hits about 130-140k. as for which one is faster, it all depends on which engine it has. each car is available with a handful of different engines, but my guess would be that a Jetta VR6 is quicker considering it weighs less.

seriously, each of these cars will just end up giving you a lot of grief. they require more maintenance than most Japanese and American cars, the repairs cost a decent bit more as well. considering that it's going to be in the shop every month, is it really worth it? there's plenty of good cars out there, don't be stupid. - Biff

2)   Which is easier to work on?

Jetta by a mile. the Passat is an Audi.

Faster? ya gotta be kiddin, they spec out way different.

Reliable, bout same, lean toward jetta somewhat.

ASE Cert Auto Tech, since 1978, 2003 GLI - sci

3)   The Jetta is lighter and simpler, so is both faster and more reliable for the same engine options.
It is also less expensive to buy and maintain, because there are so many of them.
But the Passat has more comfort, larger interior, better handling, more status, and better resale. - Motorhead

4)   Speaking in general terms, the Jetta should be the faster car; lighter weight, smaller body size, a variety of powertrain options, make the Jetta a better choice. The Passat is a larger car; roomer, larger trunk (boot), but less responsive handling and a lower resale value over time. The Kelly Blue Book rates a 2000 Jetta GLS V6 5 speed with 100k, with a trade in value (in excellent condition) at 2825 USD, the Passat GLS V6 5 speed with 100k, with a trade in value (in the same condition) with exactly the same value: 2825 USD. Check it out for yourself. Considering that the Passat was considerbly more expensive than the Jetta (at least 20% higher cost), this means that the Passat has depreciated more than the Jetta has.

In terms of speed, you can make the Jetta (or for that matter, the Passat) with the turbo 1.8 much faster; plenty of aftermarket speed equipment exists for the turbo motor; i.e., programming chips for ECU, waste gate improvements, boost in turbo pressure, exhaust system work, etc....

Both the Jetta and Passat have well known faults; 1.8 and v6 have had numerous issues in the past: coil packs, window regulators, heated seats problems, cruise control issues, climatronic (heater/ac control) issues, automatic transmission issues, vacuum leaks, etc. But the Passat also has a weak front suspension and steering linkage on top of everything else; tie rod ends that wear out, upper control arm links (usually worn out by the time the car has 80k), which just add to the other issues both cars have. In my experience at the dealership service department level, the Passat by far was more troublesome than the Jetta/Golf and overall was more expensive to repair and maintain.

If possible whatever vehicle you choose, avoid the automatic transmission. Although many of them by this time have had the various updates in software and other issues done, they still cannot overcome a transmission that is below average in reliability, even with all the updates performed.
The vehicles are best driven with a manual transmission, this improves the performance as well as the fuel economy regardless of engine choosen.

Finally, as someone else has pointed out, there are a lot more Jettas around than Passats (at least where I'm at in California) and so body parts and other items are less expensive and easier to find. - a car nut

Question 5
is the 2002 jetta 1.8t tiptonic double clutch or single clutch?...  i heard the 2006 nd up are double clutch and everything and i got one for my girlfriend but i want to know if i can put all kind shits for her like make faster and everyting.. and i dont want it to brake down on her hand... so i need to know if i should get it or not.. caz she doesn know how to drive stick thts y i want this car but she wants it to b with turbo stage 2 and shit ... so help me out

Answers
1)   the 2002 jetta 1.8t is a single clutch auto. however, the 2006 and up GLI has a dual clutch dsg auto with paddle shifters (fastest trans in the world). - kj

2)   Actually, the 2002 Jetta 1.8T with the Tiptronic transmission doesn't have any clutches. It is a traditional automatic transmission, with a torque converter, and has the option of manual selecting which forward gear to use. VW models offered with the DSG transmission have dual clutches, and VW manual transmissions of the MK4-era have a traditional single clutch, along with a dual mass flywheel.

As far as mods go, the MK4 tiptronic can handle stage 2 power without any major problems. Have fun. - gti_4cefed4

3)   "but i want to know if i can put all kind shits for her like make faster and everyting"
Are you sure you're old enough to even drive? you sound like you're 13 or 14
"put all kind shits"?
care to elaborate more i've never heard of people putting all kinds of shits in cars..........
Ok let's assume you're of age... here and by "all kind of shits" you mean modified
Whenever a car is being modified reliability goes down with it, since you're putting more strains on the engine, so anything bigger than a stage two set up ( again assuming you know what it is.....) strengthing the internal is recommended. And no the 02 jetta 1.8t is just a automatic transmission with a 5 speed manual mode like it was stated above, not the greatest transmission if you "put all kinds shit for her like make faster and everything..." But it will do for anything upto a stage 2
Stick with the MkV jettas with the dual clutch DSG system since it's actually faster than a stick or manual transmission. if she doesn't wanna a stick

Seriously learn to write properly it was painful to read what you wrote assuming you're a grown person - The Yiff
