I have a 2006 VW Passat with tyre size 225x45x18.My friend is selling 4 new tyres 225x60x18 would they fit?

Question 1
I have a 2006 VW Passat with tyre size 225x45x18.My friend is selling 4 new tyres 225x60x18 would they fit?...

Answers
1)   I think the width sounds a bit of a big increase - you'd probably find your turning circle would greatly increase, and the tires could even extend from the side of the body (which is illegal, and you'll get ticketed for). - Alexander Ward

2)   the width would remain the same the height or size of the sidewall would be larger... i would just stick with the 225/45/18s, then you don't have to worry about the tire rubbing on any suspension components or the fender. try finding tires on ebay if you have to. - DYINGsucks

3)   No, they'll be too tall. It's a pretty tight fit in there anyway and you're looking at a 15% increase in the size of the tire's sidewall. - Richard R

4)   They will fit, The side wall depth is greater, but of course, it halves as it is split between the top and bottom of the wheel.Personally I would not do such a thing, your speedo will be slightly affected and the car may feel very slightly less taut but the ride will be slightly softer. - L G

5)   The speedometer would be inaccurate owing to difference in sidewall size and your insurance would be invalid, as the car would be modified from manufacturers specification. - mick s

6)   No Means NO

They will not fit on your car period.

The difference is the PROFILE- 45 vs 60

That means the tire height is 45 or 60 percent of the tread width(225) in millimeters. This rubs on suspension/body work and throws the speedo so far out of whack you would never know how fast or far you go or went.

7)   225.60.18 tyres will be off a vehicle such as a 4x4 or similar - much too big for the Passat - the sidewall profile is too high - they will rub on the wheel arches and the base of the coil springs - the car will be undriveable. - CDC

Question 2
Volkswagen Beetle for first car?...  Heyy guys, im going to get my driving liscence soon and my dream car is a volkswagen beetle, the older one, my budget is around 750 pounds. can anybody help? wheree can i find one for that amount of money?

Answers
1)   Honestly do your self a favour forget the Beetle ! Trust me, this is not a good introduction to motoring. The Beetle is a relic from the 1930s and I have had the unpleasant task of working on these things, "Hate" springs to my mind ! If you really want a Beetle, get a proper car first and then buy one when you get a bit older and can afford one that some kind person has restored. - L G

2)   Hey if your dreams a bug get one.. cheap to buy, maintain..fun to drive puts a smile on your face as you cruise along..
Have a look on ebay make sure its got mot, also take someone with you who knows a bit about cars get a 'Haynes' manual for it you'll soon learn some basic maintenance have fun... - Nicola

3)   you might have a hard time finding one for 750 pounds. heres a link to the samba classified list. i put in UK and these are the results.....http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/search.php?submit=yes&keywords=&type=text&stype=all&username=&yearfrom=&yearto=&pricefrom=&priceto=&model[]=&section[]=3&wanted=show&zip=&zipdist=0&state[]=Outside+the+USA&usaregion=&country=United+Kingdom&sort=date&sort_order=DESC&submitButton=Search

also check craigslist and ebay - Air-Cooled (o\ ! /o)

4)   first i would brush up on my spanner skills. vws need maintenance a little more than most. what i would also do is keep saving and buy a decent one or otherwise you will be constantly fixing a wreck when you could be crusin... - gooseboy78

5)   The Beetle is a great car for learning driving skills. You'd BETTER learn driving skills because its oversteering handling can be tricky and it's a TERRIBLE car to have an accident in. This winter, find a large empty parking lot and practice quick stops and turns under slippery conditions. - Geezer

6)   You also should compare car insurance quotes for cars before buying one, for example here - carinsurance.yoll.net - Roger

Question 3
Good or bad decision?...  Just got a 1999 vw passat.
93,000 miles.
i have one person saying this was a bad decision adn the car will go in about 20,000 miles( which i hope isnt true) and another telling me it wasnt a bad move.
so .... good or bad decision?
Car seems to be in good condition. has brand new tires, handles well, sounds great, and except for a few minor scratches is in excellent condition
Sputhern car too, no rust

Answers
1)   Depends on the overall condition of the car. Really, who can predict when a car will "go". - smoke20rules

2)   If the car was well cared for it should last for many more miles than you were told. The bad part is that any part that you may need is going to cost more than if it were for a more common vehicle. Volkswagen likes to make changes to the vehicles they build every couple years which makes the parts too specific for each model and makes it harder to get anything for them. If you have any issues with the car you need to be prepared to order and wait for the part to arrive. Hope I have been helpful. - king_davis13

3)   If it's an automatic, it's a bad decision. It WILL "go" long before the rest of the car. - Nick

4)   Passats are horrible. They've always been horrible. - Hank Scorpio

5)   I doubt that there is a car maker in the world who's cars will not do at least 150k provided they are properly serviced. I have a VW Golf car in Europe with 124k, it uses no oil runs sweet transmission great. My neighbour recently sold his Passat with 132k miles bought a Ford which was months old, sold it after 4 months because it kept breaking down ! - L G

Answers
1)   i would say 10 k - KhloeMorgan

2)   Sounds pretty good to me.
I paid 13,000 for a crappy a s s honda civic. - Its Barbie

3)   I checked nada guide 14.475 was high retail, they are grinding you hard for the certified , without that, (whats the warranty?) with out the certified I would figure 11,600 the highest I would go (average dealer trade in), If its a nice car and a popular model it will sell , your call you can always offer less, and go up? tell them 13500 and act like you are gonna walk away. - justin plainold

4)   Give him your offer, be polite and tell him that yours is fair and all you can afford. Start to walk away when he says no. If he calls you back you know your close. - L G

Question 5
is there a way to know the software on my gti if i brought it doing 20psi of boost?...  so i just brought the car super fast internal swhich out and everything from an aution so i can ask the owner what type of work doen...has epi motor mounts and boost gauage picking up 20psi of boist but i dont know what type of software is on the the car...how do i find out or can i put revo stage 1 on and it would deletell the current

Answers
1)   If you do a REVO Stage 1 tune, the previous tune will be deleted. I don't think you can find out the previous tune though - Sam S

2)   If you crack open the ECU you can see what kind of chip it's running and then take a decent guess from there (I'm assuming you know a decent amount) - Nick

3)   Ugh, I can't even make out half of the question.

Anyway, it's very very unlikely your GTI is making 20 pounds of boost without some major hardware upgrades including a larger turbocharger and intercooler. - Richard R

4)   It is extremely likely your car is making 20 PSI without any hardware upgrades, contrary to what was said here. What makes you thing that the internals were switched out? Usually people don't mess around with replacing connecting rods and other internals unless they are running a big turbo. You may or may not be able to find out what kind of software your car is running. If the car was chipped in the traditional sense, you can pull the ECU out from under the windshield, open it up, and look for a sticker on the eprom chip with the software manufacturer. If the car had the software flashed through the OBD2 port, or if the ECU was bench flashed while out of the car, you will not be able to tell what the manufacturer is. - gti_4cefed4
