What colour is my 1985 VW golf MK1?

Question 1
What colour is my 1985 VW golf MK1?...  The colour code label is too old to read. It's red, maybe mars red, but I looked in the shop and there is more than one mars red (I'm not exactly sure it's mars red. Can't remember where I got that info from.)

I saw a guy in Brecon has the same car and year - if you're reading, what's your colour code? If anyone knows him, can you ask him? It's a pretty old car, guess not many people have one.

Answers
1)   maroon - Tylor

2)   It's blue. The color is just faded. - Andrew W

3)   proberly tornado red - Jack Kenyon

4)   No such car as an '85 Golf Mk I. This is a Mark II. As for color- it is screaming yellow zonker. - djaca70

5)   You need the colour code. Do you have the service document as it is on that. I had a MK 2 GTI which was Tornado red, your 85 model will in all probability be Mars red.You do not state whether you are just wanting to buy a touch up or buy paint for a respray. Whichever, the red cars from all makers faded badly over the years so an accurate match is impossible. Another thing, try your local VW dealer, provided they have not deleted a car that old from the computer system , they would normally have that info on file against your chassis number. - L G

6)   No such thing as an 1985 MK I, All 1985's are MK II (A2). There is a Tornado Red from those days.

On an A2 (MK II) check in the glove box for a secondary paint code location

ASE Cert Auto Tech, since 1978, 2003 GLI (Had MK II GTI 16V for 21 years) - sci

Question 3
does red diesel overheat your engine?...

Answers
1)   No the only difference between red diesel and taxed diesel is the dye they use to colour it. - Boris

2)   red diesel is OFF ROAD ONLY diesel. it has a higher sulphur content and in most places is illegal for use on public roads. it does raise the exhaust temp because of the extra sulphur. it had more sulphur because it is refined less so it is cheaper and that is why it is usually reserved for heavy equipment - Ray

3)   No, the only difference besides the dye is that red diesel does not have road taxes included in the price. Do not take this lightly! If your tank is found to have red diesel in it, even if it is greatly diluted, your vehicle may be impounded and you will ultimately be fined a very large amount of money. You would be better off if it simply ruined your engine. - Michael

4)   nope its for farm use only - Carly Clegg
