javadic - Well, the retro ones were considered okay, except the new ones have been seen to be more feminine.

3)   yes

4)   Get and drive the car you like. Guys have been driving VW Beetles since 1940-something. Not a thing wrong w/ it. - javadic

5)   yeah its just not a good idea, if you care how your sexuality will appeal to others. and if u dont care and the cars that cool to u then take it - Matthew

6)   I love volkswagen beetles but for some reason it always looks really awkward to see a guy driving one. But if that is what you like than don't let anyone else stop you...you only live once:) - #1 twilight fan<3

7)   Classic Beetle is cool.
New Beetle, you're gay. - Jay S

8)   I would not drive one, but that is because I do not like how VW insulted their best selling car of all times.
As far as it being a chick car, who cares! If you like it, that is all that matters. Why care what others think. It is not their car. The Jetta and the Cabrio are also considered chick cars. I am willing to bet that if you by one and drive it, you may get teased by your friends for driving a chick car, but the women will adore you for driving it. Women like the new bugs and would probably think more of you for driving one....it would seem like you are comfortable with your sexuality. - Rod Knocker

Question 2
What engine oil should I use for my 1985 vw golf?...  the haynes manual says "to viscosity SAE 15w/50 or 20w/50" but an online form recommended 10w/50. Which should I choose and does it matter much?
I meant to write the online form suggested 10w/40

Answers
1)   Depends on the weather. 10w/40 in cold weather, 15-20w/50 in warmer weather. - BundyGil ...... suspended again.

2)   Call in at a Halfords or other similar place that sells oil (probably not a garage) and they will have the book that tells them what to use. - Timbo is here

3)   DONT go into halfords the staff in that stores are bloody useless and are very expensive for there stuff

you would be better to go into your local PARTCO store, the staff are more experienced and will help you - snuff hunter

4)   5w-30 if extreme cold weather . 10w-40 or 10w-50 in warm weather . My biggest concern would be starting the car in cold climates . Any of these formulas should provide adequate protection unless you are doing rally racing . - Mary Logan

5)   As the car is 25 years old I would suggest using the "thicker" 20/50 oil. That was correct when it was built and you may just be courting disaster using the ultra thin oil that goes in a modern engine. Think about it this way, "the "old" standard of oil has got the car this far so it must do a job. - L G

Question 3
vw passat 2006 boot doesnt lift?...  hello all.i have a vw passat 2006 and the boot doesnt lift i have to lift it by hand what do i have to change to make it lift on iys own.some gas cilinder or something.ty

Answers
1)   Go to a Body Shop and discuss your concern with them to see if they
have any suggestions - Pat

2)   Renew the two gas filled struts at the bottom of the hinges. Remove the side trims in the boot to get to them. - Wat a Hero

3)   The gas filled struts have lost effectiveness. They are a fairly easy to replace item as they lever off and on to the ball joints on either end. You can either buy new, they are about £18 each in UK or go to a breakers yard. Trouble is with breakers that you will likely pay £20 for the pair and may well have the same trouble fairly soon ! If you swap them yourself have a plank handy to prop the boot lid open so it does not crash down on you ! :+)
PS.If you do the job yourself, smear a small amount of grease on each ball joint. - L G

Question 4
Bad mechanic - Please help?...  So I took my car in for over heating issues. I neded a clutch fan for my 2002 GMC Envoy 4.2 liter SLE. ALso had the brakes done. Since then I have had to send the car back 3 times for the squeaky brakes. I use to do some mechanic stuff and know that new brakes will squeak, but not worse than before I had them done. THis is the first issue. THey have redone the front brake 3 times including the initial replacement. Now my care is overheating more then before and the brakes are worse. I have it in the shop now, and am waiting for the owner to call. if they do not fix this right waht can I do short of going to another mechanic and paying all over again
HELP ME PLEASE

Answers
1)   they need to clean off the mounting surfaces, apply a product that helps to eliminate squeaks-comes in blue or red- as for the over heat it may be some thing other than fan clutch. - Joseph

2)   Report them to the BAR and BBB if they will not take care of it. You can take it to another shop and have it fixed. Then you take them to small claims court and sue them.
I bet the overheating problem is another issue now. Probably need the radiator cored or acid dipped.
If they used ceramic pads, the brakes will always squeak. There are a few tricks to help eliminate the noise, 1 is non squeal and the other is to 45 the ends of the pads. - Rod Knocker

3)   Small Claims Court. Pay with a Visa/MC and then have them stop payment for being a ripoff place.

Shop more before leaving your vehicle somewhere.
