Question 2
what is meant by TDI engines?...  Engines

Answers
1)   Turbo-Diesel Injected - catmandew

2)   Turbo Diesel Injection. This is also a registered trademark to the VW Group as is the abbreviation GTI. - L G

3)   Turbo charged Diesel Direct Injection System is the answer. But I do not think you are expecting expansion of an abbreviation which could readily got from web.
Direct injection is a method by which the charge is injected directly into the combustion chamber. this allows the designer to control the burning and the extent of burning based on the load requirements.
Along with other advancements in engine development such as swirl port, two stage injectors, Exhaust gas recirculation, On board computer and so on one can get excellent performance from an engine - tvl

4)   The "D" in "TDI" officially has nothing to do with "diesel". The acronym stands for Turbocharged Direct Injection. Granted, all of VW's "TDI"s are diesels, but its not what was originially meant by the acronym.

VW now has multiple turbocharged direct injection models, in both diesel and gasoline, but they still only use TDI on the diesel models. - Richard R

Question 3
VW oil specifications 507 00?...  I've found it outside the continental US just wondering if it's for sale stateside, and not at the dealership.

Answers
1)   VW made an oil specification for their cars and numbered it 507 00, but that is not a specific oil.
Any company can make and sell an oil that statisfies the 507 00 specification.
So I don't know what you mean?
You need to tell us the brand of oil, if you want to know if it is available in the US, outside of the dealer.
Because there certainly are many brands sold in the US that satisfy 507 00 specifications, such as Castrol Edge, Mobil-1 ESP, etc.
Every company probably sells oil that satisfies 507 00 specs. - Motorhead

2)   you can never go wrong w. mobil one 10w-30 - Carly Clegg

3)   Only a very few oils are sold in the US that meet the 507.00 specification; Mobil 1 has an oil sold mainly at MB dealerships Mobil 1 ESP, the Castrol Edge (but must be labeled to meet VW specification 507.00 most Castrol Edge sold in the US does not meet this specification), I have seen some Shell Helix Ultra Extra and Shell Helix Diesel Extra that is labeled to meet this specification, but the oil was a "grey market" export from the UK.

According to the last bullentin that I saw that was in 2008, these were the only oils on the list that were somewhat available in the USA. In late 2009, I wrote to several of the oil companies including RedLine. Amsoil and NEO to specifically ask them if their oils had been tested and/or certified to meet VW specification 507.00 and the answers I got was no. Shell wrote back that the Shell Rotella T synthenic oil does not meet either the new MB or VW 507.00 specification and that Helix oils were not available for sale in the US market. Mobil said the ESP is sold mainly at "selected MB & Dodge Truck service departments" in the US and Castrol wrote back that only containers that said it met 507.00 on the label is an oil that meets this requirement.

Some independent auto parts dealers are selling imported oils that meet this new 507.00 specification, but they are european oils that are very expensive. I've heard of Elf (now Total), Motul, Pentosin brands as well as the Shell Helix being sold, but the prices most commonly quoted are not much less (and in some cases a lot more expensive than the dealership) than that at the VW dealership. Expect to spend at least $10 USD per quart or more for 507.00 oil, heck, even Mobil 1 synthenic sells for at $7.00 a quart or more depending upon where you buy it...

PS: As a follow up to this (and the 2009 inquiry) I have sent an email to Castrol USA, Mobil USA and Shell today 5, September, 2010 asking them if they sell any oils in the USA that meet the VW 507.00 requirement and where they can be purchased... When I hear back from them, I will post the responses from the companies.... - a car nut

4)   This is, without a doubt, the way to go when changing oil in your 09-10-11 VW TDI: http://www.idparts.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1135

Comes with 5L (1 more than you'll need) of 507.00 Total oil and a quality MANN filter.

If you're just looking for some oil to keep on hand between changes you can either order it there on IDparts.com, or just pick up the Castrol SLX Professional the dealerships carry. - Richard R

Question 4
'69 VW bus won't start.. help!?...  When I turn the key on it sounds like it wants to start buy never ignites! What are the possible issues. I just recently used a air compressor to try and fix it by compressing the gas tank and lines to make sure they were clean. Everything looked good. any advice?
Yes it was running fine until recently.. I took it for a drive and it just died at a red light and would not start back up... how embarrassing it was to come home in a tow truck

Answers
1)   I presume the bus has been running recently, and has not been sitting for 30 some years. Do you have some reason to believe that it is not getting gas ?Check that gas is in the carb and spraying when you move the throttle.

Also check that there is spark at the spark plugs. - jimanddottaylor

2)   well i'd check the ht leads, the lt leads and the spark plugs, to test for a spark, take the spark plug out, attach to the ht lead, and put it against metal, and turn engine on, or you could do a engine compression test. i had a similar problem with my mk6 escort, because it made the odd popping and the plugs were caked in carbon soot, changed the ht leads and the plugs, and it runs smooth as a peugeot diesel lol - Matthew Preece

3)   It is either fuel or the ignition.
If there is fuel in the bowl, then more then likely it is a ignition problem. Check the distributor, point, rotor and cap. While inside there make sure the grounding strap for the points is good. Also make sure the points open, the little nub sometimes wears off leaving the points closed. This should have been lubed when replaceing them, and is often forgotten by those who have not worked on old cars.
Sometimes the pin shears off the distributor drive, so make sure that it is turning. - Old Man Dirt

4)   check your points under the cap, sound like you not geting spark.

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111?...  What does the ABS light mean when it comes on, I also have another light coming on, it's a triangle with an exclamation mark inside of it and a circle around it, and b-side those two lights i have a light that looks like an engine that has a lighting bolt in the middle so i thought that was my check engine light.
ok, please explain what these mean and the seriousness of getting them fixed and just elaborate on everything b/c Idk anything about cars and i have no manual and money is tight so if i can avoid taking my car to the shop then that's what I'd prefer!

I have a 2000 VW Jetta? I don't have a car manual witch is why i am asking

Answers
1)   the abs is your brakes, the exclamation is (i think) your service warning light the engine light is either an engine malfunction or exhaust/emissions problem.
basically, it needs a full service and soon - tike

2)   Ah yes, welcome to VW. (I've got a 99 passat and I love it) Well the ABS light means it's your ABS module, you can search but I know there are places that rebuild the module for about $150. The lighting bolt through the engine is indeed you CEL, and you should go to autozone or pepboys and get the code read for free. I believe the exclamation point in circle is your brake pads, the Jetta actually has a senor that tells you when you need new ones. I'd take care of the ABS (that's cheap anyway) and definitely brake pads, and maybe your CEL is just because your gas cap isn't on tight enough or something little like that. Good luck. - Dan

3)   ABS is Anti-Lock Brake System. The light illuminated on your dash indicated you have a system malfunction. Usually its a bad sensor. The system is disabled. You can still drive your car safely...it doesnt have ABS though you can still stop. The Circle with the exclaimation is the traction control. ABS and traction control work off the same wheels sensors. You can still drive you car. You will just spin the tires if you lose traction. The engine with the lightning bolt mean you have a faulty sensor in the engine. Have a scan done at the dealership and they will fix you all up.
Drive safely. - josh d

4)   The ABS light comes on when one of the sensors in the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) detects a malfunction. This is a serious problem because whenever this light is on you anti-lock brake system will not work. Your regular brakes will work to stop your car, but if you have to make a sudden stop and the wheels start to skid the abs will not kick in. If you vehicle has traction control it will also be disabled when the abs system stops working. The second light that is on, the triangle with an exclamation mark and a circle around it, is the warning light for the traction control.
You were right about the 3rd light it is the check engine light.
Unfortunately there is no easy fix for your problems. You will have to take your car to your local VW Dealer or a ASE Certified Repair Shop that has the equipment to diagnose your cars problems. Sometimes just 1 sensor could knock out both your ABS and Traction Control. The check engine light may also only be a problem with 1 sensor.
All of these lights are indications of problems with some of the systems on your car and must be addressed as soon as possible. As far as cost goes, you really have to have these systems diagnosed first before you will know what it will cost.
When you go to a repair shop make sure they give you a written estimate of all diagnostic charges before you let them look at your car. Find out what they charge per hour for labor. Also find out if the diagnostic charge will waved if you decide to have then repair your car. - 4x4street.com
