HELP!, White smoke from 05 VW Jetta Exhaust?

Question 1
HELP!, White smoke from 05 VW Jetta Exhaust?...  I just purchased a used 05 VW Jetta.Have had it officially 1 week today. Took it on a road trip, about 300 miles from home, "slowed down" for traffic on the highway after about 3 hours of driving @ 70mph , then accelterated again, notice huge cloud of white smoke from exhaust pipe. No sputtering, stalling or spitting, just picked up speed again without hesitation. Parked car for about 2 hours, started again, white cloud again, still no problem,no leaks, etc. Seems to do this after being driven for about an hour or longer. What's wrong????? Please help, incase I have to return it to the dealer & get another car. They claim , after keeping it for 2 days to not notice anything/problem.

Answers
1)   Its a VW, trade it for something else. Most mechanics despise VW because it requires special tools to work on the engine.
They also aren't very reliable.

Id suggest trading for a Honda ;) - D

2)   Sounds like you are burning oil. Take it back. - the_emrod

3)   your head gasket, check to see if your losing water - everyonesfriendtom

4)   That's probably a head gasket problem. If it's a diesel then it could be due to retarded injection timing. (possible slipped timing belt)

Cheers for the thumbs down - just try setting the timing back on a diesel and watch the exhaust - unburnt diesel=white smoke, as does water in the cylinders. - Mickey T

5)   It one of two thing wrong with your car (1) blow head or head gasket or transmission vacuum modulator is bad all will blow white smoke out of you exhaust to find out which one it is check the radiator or transmission fluid - STEELERS Nation( THE JOY OF SIX)

Question 3
What type of gas to use for my type 1 (VW Bug)?...  I own a 1966 VW Bug, and have never really known what type of gas to put into it. The guy I bought it from told me to put in 91, but another VW Bug owner told me I could use 87. What type of gas is my car "tuned" for?

Answers
1)   you car is made to tollerate 87, but wants you to use 91. - blankdisk5

2)   Your car can use normal 87 unleaded, but since the cars that old, you really should aim to use 91 instead. This will help the engine in the long run. - Mark

3)   By using 91, your car will not only run "better," it will not use as much gas. Another words, back when they made these great little cars, what was known as the low grade then, is the high grade now, and they just run better on it. I know, because I own 8 Volkswagen's, and have put high and low grade in them, and "all" run much better on the high grade, okay? - Republican!!!

4)   I run 91 with octane booster in my 1973 Thing. It runs much better with good quality gas than cheap gas.
Your bug would also like to have the valves adjusted every couple months to keep it running tight.
The Idiots Guide to VW Repair is the BEST book you can buy to keep your bug alive. It explains everything in great detail so YOU can fix almost any problem and keep it tuned up. - Rod Knocker

How many miles will a 2000 Volkswagen GTI GLX last for?...  im looking into buying a 2000 Volkswagen GTI GLX and it has 159 thousand miles on it. they are asking 5795 for it. it is a vr6 so if anyone has any suggestions or comments then feel free to post them. thanks

Answers
1)   If u keep it up...400k - AkosX

2)   when buying used cars
type into search box
how to check a used car

get a checklist and look for signs of problems one checks shape of car it all depends on how it was cared for most any car with right care able to drive into the 400,000 range its al about shape what what care it was giving

my car say it has over 300,000 miles an di payed 1300 buck for 6yrs ago
you can find alow mileage car thats been drove at a drag strip and be junk with 2000 miles its all about care - kelly_f_1999

3)   Completely depends on how well it was maintained by previous owner(s) and how well it will be maintained in the future.

The engineering lifespan goal for modern cars sold in the USA is 150,000mi. That doesn't mean every car will disintegrate after 150K, but that's the engineering goal when designing major systems in the car. If it was well maintained it can go much longer (I have a car with quite a bit more miles that still runs great but I also have maintained it religiously over its entire lifetime). If the car was regularly abused and maintenance was neglected even just periodically throughout its life it might already be on its last legs with 159K on it.

If the current owner has extensive maintenance records that would be a big plus (and he/she should for that price - it's kind of expensive for a 10 model year old car with 159K on the clock IMHO.) If there are large gaps in the maintenance records or if the owner doesn't have any records, for that price I'd shop elsewhere. - Ben Linus

4)   For what it's worth, I have a 1999.5 Jetta, with 210,000 on it. I maintain it well, and it still runs fine for the most part. Some cosmetic wear, though. - Jon

Where is the flux capicator located on an 2003 jetta?...

Answers
1)   Behind the gigawatt generator. Be careful when removing it, It has a thermocouple attached to it. This can be removed using a 5/16 open end wrench. - Ironball

2)   In the starboard Jefferies tube, just aft of the secondary klystron.

Edit: Ironball - shouldn't that be a metric crescent wrench instead? - Ralfcoder

3)   it is on the opposite side of the kanuter valve - tweek639

4)   The flux capacitor provides the power to stabilize the relative bearings. Since these may be on either side of the transverse mercator, some models have TWO locations, left and right side just slightly above the iambic pentameter.

You may have to look hard to spot them as road dirt and ions often make them hard to spot. - ca_surveyor
