Question 2
01 jetta overheating?...  i wasnt getting any warm air in the morning then when i got on the highway i noticed the engine was hot and the light came on..so overheating is the problem and the cause is the fans not turning on?...they turn on when i turn on ac but it was still overheating so i dont know if its the waterpump now or thermostat. mechanic told me fan switch but its out of stock everywhere (didnt try the dealer yet because im not in a rush to get ripped off) im tired i dont feel like taking the car apart, working on it with no result. I changed the radiator few weeks ago. ideas?
thanks //yeah i was thinking i might as well change both if im going to have the car apart

Answers
1)   I would start with the thermostat. If it is not working the fan would not come on either. - Bentie

2)   If your mechanic found out the problem is you need
a fan switch to fix the problem....You will need a fan switch
to fix it.

Sorry, to hear that local auto part shops don't have item in
stock to fix it.......
You either have to go to a car dealer to get that item and pay a little more
or order it from an auto parts place and wait for it to come in.

Those are you only options on this matter.

3)   The clues you gave: no heat and overheating point to a water pump, VW is infamous for their use of plastic impeller on a water pump. The impeller can break suddenly. If the thermostat was not opening you would get lots of cabin heat, that`s what a thermostat does, stays closed to warm up the engine faster`giving you heat sooner. - pbleek

4)   The most important thing you said. "You changed the radiator a few weeks ago."

after you changed the radiator; how did you refill the coolant? If it all went in thru the top tank....you did it wrong.

To fix it....remove the bottom rad hose from engine and drain out coolant. Then put lower rad hose back on. Now remove top rad hose from radiator. Pour coolant in the hose and fill it up. Once full, reconnect the rad hose back to the rad. Now take remaining fluid and put in upper tank and get that side full. If any remains put in overflow tank.

That is how to replace the coolant in a bottom mounted thermostat. It is only done this way. You will have no problems afterwards. - the Horses Butt

Question 5
What's the difference between a Vw Rabbit and a Vw cabriolet?...  I have been searching on craigslist and I cannot tell difference between them. I see rabbits have the option of being convertibles or not. Is that all the difference?

Answers
1)   Rabbit is a coupe and the cabriolet is a convertable - Kenny

2)   a cabriolet means a convertible.

so, do you want a convertible?
there's more maintenance issues, security issues, and weight issues. - mr. wong

3)   Your answer is a tad difficult to answer.
in 1979 VW made the VW Rabbit a Hardtop,
and a Convertible. They were named Rabbit, L, LS, Convertible as the model types

in 1983.5 they changed the Rabbit Convertible to VW Cabriolet.
It remained the Cabriolet till 1993 when the A1 (mk1) line was finished production.

Contrary to belief the VW Rabbit Convertible/Cabriolet is built by the Karmann plant as a Convertible from the ground up... It wasn't a "cutdown" rabbit. All Convertibles are made in Gerrnany, and imported in to the US. This is when they where building Rabbits in Westmorland, PA.

There are 3 Distinct styles of Cabriolet/Convertible.
A Carburetor 1.7 engine
A Mechanical Injection system. CIS
A Totally redesigned Electronic Fuel Injected. Digifant

Carb 79-82
CIS 82-89
Digifant 90-93

The 89-93 are also called Clippers as they have ground effect body packages added
