HELP! HOW CAN I START A 02' BEETLE WITHOUT THE KEY?!?

Question 1
HELP! HOW CAN I START A 02' BEETLE WITHOUT THE KEY?!?...  Ok, so this is a childish situation, but my guardian took my car key away and I really have to run some important errands, so I dont even want to bother calling the agency or anything of the sort because it will only be a temporary way of starting my car. ANY IDEAS ON HOW TO START A 02' VW Beetle without the key? I'm 20 yrs old and my guardian is just ridiculous! This is important to me!! Thanks.,.and PLEASE NO RUDE OR JUDGEMENTAL COMMENTS. SAVE IT FOR SOMEWHERE ELSE. I ONLY NEED SERIOUS COMMENTS THAT SUPPORT MY SITUATION.

Answers
1)   the only way is to hot wire it, but the down side is there's no way to by pass the anti-theft that's on the car.. - GaryC

2)   Just tell her she's being silly and that she has no right to take the keys off you.

That's all i can say. - Carolyn-Grace

3)   Most modern vehicles have anti theft devices built in that are difficult to bypass.

One common system found in most modern vehicles is a sensor in the system that will sense any attempts to start the engine without using a key. When this happens the security system will immediately shut down the engine management computer. Without this computer, you aren't going anywhere. This makes any attempt to hotwire ineffective.

Next thing you would need to get past is the locking steering and gearshift. The only way to do this is to physically break the lock that the ignition key goes into. You usually do this by using a dent pulling slide hammer to break and remove the lock. But if you attempt to start without a key, see the previous paragraph. Using a pliers to turn what remains of the lock only works in the movies.

So for an amateur like yourself, this would be too difficult.

Also, who's name is on the title. If the car is not in your name if you were to take it you could be charged with theft.

Your best bet is to find an alternate means of transportation until you can resolve this issue with your guardian. Take the bus, a cab, call a friend, etc. - Mad Jack

4)   Sorry your stuck on the bus. The car has an immobilizer on it. Once the car start it looks for a code inside the key if it does not get it it shuts the car down. No key no car. - uthockey32

5)   You need a Guardian you wack job! Take a hike if you can't drive. - thebax2006

6)   I can tell you how to start the car, that is no problem. Steering lock is. It needs a key. If you think your guardian is ridiculous, sit down and have a heart to heart with them as mature adults. Understand their role and what their guidelines are.
If you can't do that then I guess you are gonna "have to put the old Nike runners on and 'run' ".
(Just a side note)You are essentially trying to steal the car and the guardian can call the cops on that alone and you will get a criminal record...even if it is your car...it goes down as autotheft). - the Horses Butt

7)   obvious question is here, WHY DO YOU HAVE A GUARDIAN AT 20? Legal age is 18, if it is your car then all you have to do is call the cops and they will HAVE to give you your keys, otherwise it's stealing. - hondab16tuner

Question 2
I have a dead 1977 bug so can i take the vin off that on asnd put it on a mexican bug would it be legal?...
It is a 1995 Mexican bug
they look exactly the same
and i live in philadelphia

Answers
1)   No as it will not match the title to the 1995 and it is against the law to do it.Car dealer for over 15 years. - Scott W

2)   No, depending on what state you live on, you'll be breaking at least one law. The Vin is attached to the car it was put on, for a reason - Reginald

3)   why would you need that vin??
its mexico remember - mr upthere

4)   If you do the fedralies are gonnd be looking for you - Erics Towing & Auto Sales Inc.

5)   No no no! Not legal at all!
Dont try it. - Starship Pain

6)   Apart from the ID plate pop riveted to the car, the VIN is generally stamped onto the chassis on all Beetles. Look on the tunnel housing under back seat.

VIN stands for vehicle Identification Number. Each vehicle carries a unique VIN, you therefore cannot just change VIN's.

Attempting to change VINs or even alter a VIN stamped on the pan is illegal. Reason this is how car thieves handle stolen cars. Therefore any tampering with this number the car is viewed as suspected stolen.

However, you could possibly legally transfer all the Mexican bug shell etc. onto the 1977 Bugs pan. This is how many Kit cars are built up.

Question 3
where can i find parts for a 1973 volkswagen beetle?...  i just got one and i need parts

Answers
1)   try http://www.punchbuggies.com/
they might have what you need... - |.munk.|

2)   GOOD YEAR!

Our family owned the Super Beetle for that year!

What kind of parts?

As far as body parts, any model shipped to the US from 1972 (except the rear tail lights for 1972).

Now the Beetle manufactured in the 70's (73 on) brought into the US were still being built in Mexico until 2003.

More than likely, you'll be able to get and use body parts from later models.

Mechanically, any Type 1 engine will work. Keep in mind the Beetle went to fuel injection in the mid-late 70s. As I recall with the 1975 model! There were no differences in the fuel injected engines themselves from the earlier carb fueled models. In later models they started putting in catalytic converters.

The engine was a 1600 (1584) cc dual port head engine. On the stock engine you could boost the horsepower (by 20%) just by changing the exhaust (to relieve the back pressure, they them "Extractors"; two varieties silent or "glass packed"), and swap out the stock ignition coil with the Bosch "Blue Coil"! You'll have to check the pollution inspection criteria for your state. The Beetles at that time, even new, would not pass today's inspection criteria (especially the carb models).

The front suspension, at least on the Super Beetle were Mcpherson Struts, the backs were conventional shocks. - JD

3)   Don't be in a mad rush if you don't have to. Start off and ask the dealer first. If they can get parts, they will be generally the highest in cost. Next go to your automotive supply shop and see if they can get parts for VW's. Sometimes they can, sometimes got no supplier because there is not enough a demand through them.
Now you thumb through the yellow pages for VW parts and supplies shops and see if you can find any that specialize in that car. These speciality shops get their parts from "jobber"-manufacturers that make the part but do not belong to VW corp so there is no official VW marking on them. >Big deal so long as the part fits, right?< These speciality shops are at the lower end of cost for the parts while still suppling you with new parts.(before you "poo-poo" these shops, I have found that my local VW dealership has called them for parts for their establishment. Certain parts, you cannot tell where they come from or if they are from VW factory, and you would care less. Now, that covers"new" parts. Seeing the car is 37 years old, new parts are "not" really necessary. Used will do in the majority of the cases. Most parts can be used for that matter. It is a matter of hoofing it around in local auto wreckers. Which "should" be lower than what you can get if you purchase new at the "jobber shop" but you got to know your prices ahead of time. What makes another 37 year old car better than your especially if it is in salvage.?
Could be that the driver just replaced all the shocks, exhaust and steering components with brand new "VW" original parts and then he got into a fenderbender, and the car was written off by the insurance company. You never know. Those are far between. And there are alot of VW owners out there who will be doing the search for the same car.
Also peruse the newspapers for autoparts and garage sales and maybe you might luck out. Talk to other bug owners...someone may know something of interest to you. They know who the "good mechanics are" and who the bad ones are(by experience)
As for cross over parts, depends if it is a super B or not. They won't cross over body parts between the standard and the super. Two different insects. Engines - there were various models that would fit in. I would try to keep it stock only because of the pollution control. They can't rightly "nail you" if it came out of the factory that way.
I know that because my 1965 MGB did not come with seat belts, after they enforced a ruling here that people must wear seatbelts in cars "that were factory equipped". For the other vehicles, it is a recommendation that they be installed.
Note "factory equipped" and "recommendation". No enforcement could take place.
But as soon as you get away from the "stock setup" you are modifying and with the modifications they do state: any engine modifications must be in accordance to the laws of today(so if pollution levels is in their law books, then you "have" to conform otherwise the vehicle is pulled from the road.
So maybe it would be wise to enquire first as to"could I plate my VW aircooled for the road" before you spend a whole lot of money for a fancy boat anchor." - the Horses Butt

4)   cip1.com

Usually free shipping if you order a minimum amount @$75 IIRC.

Good luck, fun cars. - Jay S

5)   Here is a good place to start. You will find both new and used parts.

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/

New parts here.

http://www2.cip1.com/default.asp - Michael C

6)   Many have listed good websites. I want to know how much you want for it. My youngest wants a '73 bug. Have fun with it. - froglady

Question 4
my cars stuck in second gear?...  so i have a manual tranny on my car. i went to the store one day and when i got out and started my car i found that i could not get it in reverse and that the only gear that worked was second. that stick itself moves around freely and i can drive it at tops speed of 35 at 3000 rpms. when i press the clutch it does go all the way down and the car does come out of gear. and when i let go of it, it is still in second gear.
Its a Mazda 626 w/ turbo and i think it has a hydrolic transmission.

Answers
1)   Chances are the transmission is shot.
Good news is that being a stick shift its probably gonna be a little cheaper and easier to replace or rebuild. Bad news is its still gonna be kind of expensive.
Take it to a mechanic that knows his stuff and that you can trust. Never know, it could just be something minor. You might luck out. - Starship Pain

2)   put the car in N and call the seller to ask if they why it is doing that - Guinea Parrot

3)   Post this in the Mazda forum, you will get better answers.

It could be a linkage issue, or a cable issue both relatively easy and Cheap fixes. - Briano

4)   This sounds like your gear linkage has gone. not the end of the world but it will cost a couple of 100 to fix probably. - mcfishyd

Question 5
Is there any mark in the chasis to show it is a demo car.?...

Answers
1)   not on the chasis but the miles on the odometer would be a clue - Randy F

2)   By demo do you mean the one they used at the dealer to show people how the car works? Then no. Cars that are built as show cars only have a different chassis number system but very few of those cars are offered for sale and all will have documentation. - uthockey32

3)   Never. They just pick a car off the lot (usually the most loaded) and say to the salesman in the dealership The key with the fob on this nail belongs to the "demo car". That and only that is what the customers get a ride in.
If they buy the demo, then they pick out another car. - the Horses Butt

4)   Cars are never manufactured solely as demonstration models (except for pre-production vehicles), hence they will carry no differentiating mark to any other car.

High mileage is not an indicator of a demo model. Demo models are as the name implies are used to demonstrate the vehicle to a customer. This is generally done in short trips around the area of the showroom.
