how do i stop my golf gt tdi smoking?

Question 1
how do i stop my golf gt tdi smoking?...  i have tryed treatments in the diesal but my car still smokes when i put my foot down please can someone help

Answers
1)   Step 1: Sell your Volkswagen
Step 2: Buy a Japanese car
Step 3: ??????
Step 4: Profit - Strae

2)   Its a Diseasall - they all do it particularly when you boot them. For all its advances blowing up some diesel vapour in air by sqeezing it hard is still a bit crude compared to a modern petrol car thus some smoke will be produced at times. - Timbo is here

3)   Explain to him the dangers of smoking and what it's going to do to him!! Premature ageing and smelly! I think this sounds like a battle of wills. If you keep putting your foot down then you know how these things rebel. Try reason and if that doesn't work stop all his pocket money!! - HK

4)   If it worries you that much - get the piston rings changed. - Bod

5)   Honda Good, V.W. Bad. Toyota Good V.W. Bad. Nissan Good V.W. Bad . Japanese Good ,V.W. Bad. - Sharp Shooter

6)   Normal, if it is excessive, then replace the rings, or adjust injection timing. - djaca70

7)   Check for collapsed /restricted turbo trunking, check EGR valve is not gummed up and sticking open allowing exhaust gas into cylinders when under load and yes buy an asian diesel if you want a gutless piece of crap the japs cant build a decent diesel engine. How many crap hino trucks do you see in comparison with Scania,Mercedes,Daf or even bloody Iveco. That's why even crap Kia fit merc diesel engines rather than fit some jap gutless wonder that has the power and finesse of a bloody steam engine. They have only just got the hang of common rail systems while the German,French and Italian manufacturers are moving on to 2nd generation piezo crystal injectors and 2000 bar system pressures - chewbaka87

8)   Good old Chewbaka! A technician, not another bar room expert leading people astray. He really knows his diesels. The only thumbs down he will get will be non trade owners in denial. But most diesels will give a brief puff of black smoke if you floor the pedal. As Clarkson said, 'dirty carcinogenic things.' Take a look on Honest John and then tell me that many diesel options are not more trouble than their petrol alternatives. And cost more to repair. But if it is a matter of driving preference rather than health and economics then good luck to you.
Old mechanic - edgarl

9)   Nicotine patches - BECKS

Question 2
Are there photos of broken clutches that I can compare to make sure the mechanic is telling the truth?...  I have a 2004 Volkswagen GTI 1.8T, would like to see pictures of a damaged clutch so that I can compare when I see my car to make sure it really was damaged.

Answers
1)   why isn't the car working? - Harley Drive

2)   you cant see the clutch at all. - gone

3)   Well if you do not trust the shop why do you go there? Depending on what happened to the clutch you can see it with out a photo to compare. If the car was slipping because the clutch is worn the lining will be down to the rivets. If you where slipping because someone was ridding the clutch it will sell burnt and the pressure plate will be blue. - uthockey32

4)   Most likely the clutch is damaged. If you're driving and you try to go faster and the rpms increase but your speed doesn't, your clutch is wearing. If the friction zone where you feel your clutch bite while releasing the clutch pedal is getting closer to the top over time, your clutch is wearing. If you smell a strange smell or see any smoke, your clutch is wearing. If you can come to a stop without disengaging the clutch, it is wearing (or the slave cylinder is leaking).

When he shows you the clutch you'll notice it is worn, also, he isn't going to show you a unworn clutch and tell you it's worn. If he's trying to screw you he'll show you some other damaged clutch he has lying around, which in this case it doesn't matter if you're able to tell if it's worn or not..

How many miles do you have on this clutch? What made you bring it into the shop in the first place? Most likely its on its way out. - Tony

5)   Odd. I seem to recall a long discussion on vwvortex.com with a similar situation and I think it's the same range of VW. Their clutch was basically disintegrating and it was a warranty dispute. You might go there and do a search. There were lots of pictures of the clutch disc after removal. - Jay S

Question 3
1973 Volkswagen Beetle- Why Won't The Fuel Pump Stop?...  I was about to pull the top off the carburetor and check the float when I noticed the fuel pump pumps continuously even if the engine is off. As long as the key is on, it's just pumping away. For some reason this made me wonder if it was really a carburetor issue or a pump issue. What do you think?
F.Y.I.- It's a 1600 engine. They were originally fuel injected, but since those early injectors sucked, it was converted to a Solex 34 pict 3 with an electric pump. It starts right up and runs beautifully, but that pump just keeps pumping until it overflows. I bought a fuel pump regulator today because a mechanic told me those pumps run too strong and I could dial it down with the regulator. Would that do the trick? I thought I'd ask why it runs even when the engine is off before I did anything else. Are they supposed to run continuously? Thank you very much for your time!

Answers
1)   check the relays. also check the wiring. the ignition kill may not be working properly - irhkmj

2)   True the pump needs regulated down and also your float needs checked because the pressure of that pump most likely has bent the top of the float where is is not shuting off the gas. the float is supposed to hit the needle valve to shut the gas down. - cblack6540

3)   Your pump is working properly, put the top of the carb back on. It's supposed to pressurize once you turn on the ignition. A regulator to dial the pressure down would help, you'll find out if it's too low if you start stalling after running a while. - Jay S

4)   Electric fuel pumps are designed to turn on with the ignition so the fuel system is pressurized at start up. Turn the key off to turn it off. - Rod Knocker

Question 4
VW Beetle Classic Timing?...  I Installed a newer engine and cant get it to ping by lugging but at 50 60 mph it will by just accelerating

Answers
1)   Timing a classic bug is a bit of a lost art.
Try this link, it may be a good one for you to book mark the root directory on:
http://www.vw-resource.com/tune-up.html - Old Man Dirt

2)   Timing is too far advanced. Retard it a bit.
I like to time old VWs by ear. Loosen the distributor just enough to move it. Hold the throttle at 3000 rpm and twist the distributor (a tiny bit) back and forth until the engine sounds the best (power wise). Tighten the distributor and test drive.
Good Luck - Rod Knocker

3)   think there only one mark on pulley and one on engine that you have to check.
if you put a volt meter , pos to points side of coil and neg to earth of body or engine, rotate engine by hand or turning with spanner on pulley then just as the 2 marks lign up, 12 volts will show on your meter, adjust distributer if this isnt correct. - Pete

4)   You have to make sure the points are set first, a dwell meter is the way to go. Every degree of dwell the points are off, it's a degree off on the the timing. Where did you hook the vacuum for the advance, it shouldn't suck til ya give it gas! - onlyoldiron4me

Question 5
A good place to look for upgrades for an 06 VW Jetta GLI?...  I just got a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta GLI and I am wondering where is a good place to find aftermarket performance parts for it for a decent price. Things like a cold air intake, strut tower brace, boost guage, chip tune, etc...

Answers
1)   www.vwvortex.com to get information and vendors that have various sales

Don't need a strut tower brace. You will have to cut the firewall just to see one!!!! - cant_think_of_1

2)   Previous poster is spot on, there is neuspeed as well. - djaca70

3)   Go to techtonicstuning.com, they have the best stuff, dyno tested and proven, they even have dyno runs posted to show how much hp you gain off each mod - onlyoldiron4me
