how do i stop my golf gt tdi smoking?

Question 1
how do i stop my golf gt tdi smoking?...  i have tryed treatments in the diesal but my car still smokes when i put my foot down please can someone help

Answers
1)   Step 1: Sell your Volkswagen
Step 2: Buy a Japanese car
Step 3: ??????
Step 4: Profit - Strae

2)   Its a Diseasall - they all do it particularly when you boot them. For all its advances blowing up some diesel vapour in air by sqeezing it hard is still a bit crude compared to a modern petrol car thus some smoke will be produced at times. - Timbo is here

3)   Explain to him the dangers of smoking and what it's going to do to him!! Premature ageing and smelly! I think this sounds like a battle of wills. If you keep putting your foot down then you know how these things rebel. Try reason and if that doesn't work stop all his pocket money!! - HK

4)   If it worries you that much - get the piston rings changed. - Bod

5)   Honda Good, V.W. Bad. Toyota Good V.W. Bad. Nissan Good V.W. Bad . Japanese Good ,V.W. Bad. - Sharp Shooter

6)   Normal, if it is excessive, then replace the rings, or adjust injection timing. - djaca70

Question 2
Why do you punch someone when you see a vw?...  I saw a commercial, i didn't really understand the point of this game. Perhaps if i knew what vw's had to do with punching...

Answers
1)   it beats punching someone everytime you dont see a vw - Pudgy Pigeon

2)   Punchbuggy.

Only for VW Bugs (New Beetles don't count for purists).

Too bad there aren't as many on the road anymore.

There is also Ticklebuggy for VW Bus/Vanagon/Euro vans.... - calnickel

3)   I don't know but all the kids around here (Philly) have done it for years. Personally, I'd like to smack the moron that started it. - Randi K

4)   It was an old travelling game called "slug bug". Every time you saw a VW Bug you got to punch someone in the arm. - ocularnervosa

Question 3
Whats the best cold air intake for a 05 vw passat TDI?...  I'm looking to get better mpgs and performace out of my passat diesel looking for any ideas or answers thanku

Answers
1)   The factory CAI set-up. Really, it draws air in from the wheel well, much better than some after market "Cold" air intake which just pulls air from the engine bay.

DO NOT put an aftermarket intake on that car, unless of course, you like buying Mass Air Flow sensors, getting worse mileage, and worse performance out of your car. - Richard R

2)   Cold air intakes do nothing for a Diesel, since the engine relies on compression for ignition. Work on the exhaust, get injectors that spray more fuel. Consult tdiforums.com. - djaca70

3)   an aftermarket CAI will not increase power nor fuel efficiency. "More" air will not cause the ECU to increase fuel injection quantities. The fuel injected will use whatever air it needs and the remaining air is to hide smoke. The key to getting more power (and eventually fuel efficiency once you control the right foot) is getting the ECU reprogrammed to use more of the extra air. - cant_think_of_1

Question 4
VW Beetle Classic Timing?...  I Installed a newer engine and cant get it to ping by lugging but at 50 60 mph it will by just accelerating

Answers
1)   Timing a classic bug is a bit of a lost art.
Try this link, it may be a good one for you to book mark the root directory on:
http://www.vw-resource.com/tune-up.html - Old Man Dirt

2)   Timing is too far advanced. Retard it a bit.
I like to time old VWs by ear. Loosen the distributor just enough to move it. Hold the throttle at 3000 rpm and twist the distributor (a tiny bit) back and forth until the engine sounds the best (power wise). Tighten the distributor and test drive.
Good Luck - Rod Knocker

3)   think there only one mark on pulley and one on engine that you have to check.
if you put a volt meter , pos to points side of coil and neg to earth of body or engine, rotate engine by hand or turning with spanner on pulley then just as the 2 marks lign up, 12 volts will show on your meter, adjust distributer if this isnt correct. - Pete
