Question 1
Should i buy a 1998 Vw Beetle for my first car? i don't know much about cars so i really need help.?...

Answers
1)   It's a safe car. I'd recommend it.
Edit: I agree with Monsieur Joy---his info makes sense. Beetle is good, but do not buy any car that old. - Melody

2)   i wouldnt for a first car id get something a little bigger like a small truck or small SUV i got a Dodge Dakota for my first vehicle and it was really nice. - Tiki

3)   NO! DONT BUY IT, IT'S UGLY!!!! - Groceryjunkie

4)   My answer NO. 1998 Beetle is the first production cars that had lots of bug. If you really like Beetle only look for at least a 2002 and up. Stay away from 2.0L engine code AEB or AVH they have oil consumption problems. I personally like the 1.8T T for Turbo. It's smoother and move you faster out of Traffic. On automatic make sure it is with tiptronic because it has a better transmission and tight. VW none tiptronic have constant problems and more slippage when accelerating. - monsieur joy

5)   No.

Theyre unreliable and expensive to maintaing. Not only that, but theyre horrific to work on, if youre into that.

My sister had one as her first car and it had tons of various problems. My 97 GTi also had its fair share of kinks, but at least it made up for them with the way it drove. - Kyle M

6)   Almost everybody has had a VW bug as their first car. True, the older generation air cooled one, but VW. Whether it was a (Type 1)sedan or Ghia sports car, (Type2)or van/truck, or (Type3)station wagen or (Type4)fastback. The (Type1,2,3,4)is what they are officially called at the factory. (Makes no difference if we call it a pisspot, rustbucket, krautcan, shaggin wagen, lovebug or anything else.) When you went for parts, you got a part to fit a Type#. They know at the parts desk what you are asking for when you describe you car as a bug,.
10 years old, should be just past the breaking - in stage. I still see '65 on the road. But you should get a mechanic that is familiar with VW repair to come with you and check the car out. It may cost you $50. for his opinion but at least you have some comfort in knowing more than you did before.(even if he points out a bunch of negatives while in it-you will know what to look for in the next vehicle you look at) But if it is a mechanic that wouldn't touch a VW with a 20 ft pole "without even looking at it" he is a biased, racial individual who is not much of a mechanic....especially if he then tries to push American domestics on you or Japanese cars(of the same year) Please compare apples with apples..
VW has been very successful, selling worldwide and all models drive the same.(so feel the same, sound the same)and that matters if you are driving a standard shift.(and not great at it)
I do not know much about the automatics, except when they first came out(70's) they were autostick shift. Meaning there was no clutch pedal but you still had to shift 1,2,3. You let off the gas and shifted and had no clutch pedal. You don't start them in 3.
I do not know how much better they are since then I favored standards (of course there is improvements) hopefully your mechanic knows. If it has decent miles, clean and not rusted out or upholstrey torn, you may have a good vehicle for 5 or more years. Parts do wear out(but it really depends on how much maintenance the previous owners did). If they live in a run down shack, you can tell they just use and abuse(instead of maintain and improve). If it is a car lot number, then you have to look past the "Armour All" wax job. This is where you need a mechanic(not theirs) to come with you. Even if it was 2 years old any make any model. Car lot salespeople later become politicians. - Lam Sanders

What should I name my 1971 VW Bug?...  I like naming my vehicles, but this one is a little more difficult for me. It's red, is lifted a little bit. It has a lot of character. Please no names like Bug, or Buggy, something unique would be awesome. Thanks

3)   Kase that's hard! Red and lifted reminds me of a firetruck ready to pump water as far as it can. The fact that is so able to do , tells me that it is very mobile. Mobile and worthy adds-up to on-the-spot! I say Sperinia is a fair start. In the land of Fairenia! Where the topi's ho the so's! - racer123

4)   ---Ryoko--- means 'dragon' in Japanese. I thought of a cute lil dragon bug. I dunno - im strange. =+) - starie_ize

2)   Every 60,000 miles. - nicole

3)   to be honest manufacturers always recommend that cam belt/ timing belts should always be replaced around 40,000 miles..

People do run them for up to 60 , thousand plus, but be warned that by leaving it too long ,and alllowing the timing balt to wear and break will end up with the pistons hitting the valves and all sorts of BIG bills coming ,where they could have been avoided , So i hope this is of help. - mellowfellow

Question 5
How do I remove a broken wheel bolt from a VW Polo?...  I was changing my tyres yesterday and when I put my wheels back on the car, I accidently broke off one wheel bolt, now the front piece came out and the rest is just stuck in there, So how do I remove the bolt that is stuck inside? Can I use a wheel bolt remover to get it out? If yes where can I buy them?

Answers
1)   It wont be tight in there unless you cross threaded it, so you could probably get it out by turning it with a center punch and hammer and then a vice grip when you can catch hold of it.Failing that you will need an easy out.Drill a hole in the stud and insert the easy out. As they are left hand thread as you screw the easy out in the bolt will unscrew - Arlanymor

2)   What I have had good luck with is the following.
needed:
Left Handed Drill Bits
Reversible Electric drill
Can of PB-Blaster
Can of Brake_Kleen

Carefully rotate the bolt away from the Pads/Caliper
Lock in to place with a screwdriver wedged in the slotted vents against the caliper.

Spray the bolt (only the bolt) with PB-Blaster

Center punch the center of the bolt, (dead Center).

Go to Harbor Freight, and buy Left Handed Drill bits. 6 bucks for 4 sizes.
(Good Hardware Stores may carry them too.)

Place the brill bit in the jaws of the drill and tighten.
Place the Drill in reverse.
Center the Drill bit in the Punched area of the bolt.
Drill.

What happens to most bolts is that the drilling and vibration will allow the drill to cut in then the bolt will back itself back out.

Other than that you will need to drill it out one size at a time till you can collapse the bolt in on itself and pry it out.

You should also think about buying a tap, and re-tap the hole once the bolt is free.

When finished, Spray the whole brake assembly pads and all with Brake-Kleen. - Briano

3)   hammer stud and replace it
type into search box
