im in highschool and im getting a car. my aunt offered me her beetle, but im a guy?!?

i wasnt planning on getting a beetle, but its my first car so chances are im not gonna get everything i want, im just afraid all the other guys at school would make fun of me (im a guy).its also lime green. but i have money for a paint job so what color should i get it painted when she gives it to me, doesn't it seem like a girly car?

I wouldn't worry about it. Brag about having a car in the first place. If you don't like the green you can take after one of the seniors this year and spray paint awesome designs on your car.

My first car was a 66 Beetle. Don't complain. Take the car and be happy. I'd paint it white because it'll be easier to keep clean and cooler in the summer.
Pablo

hmm back back back, my car was a 25+foot long t-bird and was ugly with exhaust leak.i built the drive train and didnt listen to those laughing even though they were walking.
idontgivafork

1. dont paint it
itll be expensive
2. ive drove around my moms yellow bug when i didnt have a car
3. theyre actually pretty quick- if manual

Dude a cars a car. As long as it gets you where you need to go, and hopefully it's reliable, you should be happy with it. My friend has had his license for 2 years and I've been giving his sorry ass rides all over the place because he cant afford a car. Some girls might think its cute too, if your lucky. And if you need money you could always charge your friends a dollar a ride.

Are you serious? Unless you have issues with your gender, no car should put you in a position to be teased. I sure wish my aunt would have given me a car when I was 16 or 17.

Besides, chicks dig the Beetle.. (well, some of 'em anyway)

Check out http://www.newbeetle.org You'll make a lot of friends.

Did you check your oil i think u might need to change it
Bankers Da Puppet Masters

either your fan is not working or your , thermostat is stuck or your water pump is not working.
*havin fun in the sun*

Firstly, when you put in coolant if your thermostat is not open you can cause air pockets. You should go out, top up the radiator with coolant leaving the cap off, turn the engine on, wait a few mins, you will see the coolant in the radiator start to bubble when the thermostat opens the coolant will start to drop, start topping up again.

If that doesnt work, go and get a coolant flush.
thexfilez

Your waterpump is bad.

Ya I have a 2001 gti vr6 and both the coolant leaked and the waterpump went bad. definatley the waterpump for you.

Are the old VW Beetle's a good choice for a first car?

I'm about to buy my first car and am having a lot of difficulty in deciding which one I like. I'm VERY fussy when it comes to looks and for that reason have no interest in any of the reasonably priced modern cars. I want something different. I have a budget of around AU$8000. If I did buy one I'd turn it into some really cool hippie mobile and have my friends help me paint it.
So my question is - should I do it? I've heard so many horror stories about bugs but have also been told that they're really reliable. Can anyone give me some advice?
Thanks in advance :)

[Best Answer]OK.. as an answer based in the USA but somewhat universal:

1) They are classics. If you buy it for $1 today and take reasonable care of it.. chances are that it will be worth $1.25 when you sell it. Not too much chance of that on a rice rocket.

2) Parts are readily available. SUre they stopped making the cars a few decades ago, but you can still buy parts with little or no hassle unless you own a 1950's bug or one of the rarer models.

3) Mileage.. stock engine, it will give you about 25 to 30 mpg. (you will have to change that to KM/liter prob. but that is a decent mileage here in the US for a gasoline car.

4) Maint. is easy.. but strict. You MUST keep the oil clean and full so monthly changes are a good idea. The engine is air cooled and oil circulated so if your oil goes south your engine is not far behind.

5) If you buy a classic bug.. consider not changing it. You will lose its value if you do much more then repaint it. Check the prices of the SOLD used Bugs on eBay for an idea of their value vs. their condition.

6) Downsides..
THey get HOT.. if you are in a warm area consider one with a sunroof or a convertable because they typically do not have AC.
Little protection in the front. If you are going to get hit let em tailpipe you. Especially with that gas tank up front in the trunk
GOt more then three friends to take somewhere. THey better be REALLY friendly and well washed because that back seat is not all that big. No big pizza with anchovie and chilli sauce before a long drive with the windows up.

7) Not fast.. top speed on the flats with a tail wind is about 75 depending upon your engine. But you really dont expect to get somewhere quickly if you buy a bug.

8) A friendly car.. EVERYBODY smiles at you (except the guy you cut off or took his parking space.. he prob. has a different comment).

ok.. go enjoy one.

the old bugs are a great car but getting pretty old now if you find one get a vw shop to look at it. they know the things to look for that normal mechanic do not
andyhi696

The original Bug is certainly a unique car but keep in mind that they have not been produced in years. Unless the previous owner(s) was diligent with the maintenance, you could be in for some potentially expensive surprises early on.

I drove an original Bug once and the thing I remember most about it was that it had 4 drum brakes. If you're accustomed to driving a modern car, you will be very disappointed with the stopping distance of the Bug.
Bandit-05

wel myself wouldnt buy one but really anytime your buying used car follow a check list type into search box how to check used car and look for problems finding any thing on list walk a way if you dont know to to fix it or how much it cost to repair it never buy a car knowing it needs work in order to drive it i wouldnt buy one unless thats what you really want they have been a round long time which is proof they good cars but stil knowing what signs to look for before buying one that info you can use rest of life and wil keep you from buying a junker

nope..Have it looked at.

having the light situation is about $300 repair on average for all 1996 and newer cars.

It means that the car is not passing the emissions standard for that year.
mdcbert

I rented Suzuki Forenza lately - there was a transmittion light o_O
It appeared to be not enough air in the front left tyre - can you believe it? Lol

if the battery is leaking, just change the battery. otherwise make sure that leak from battery does not make any damage on some wire or something

have a good one
ArtIst Mc

Change your battery, like NOW. Also make sure your gas cap is screwed in tight, it can cause a CEL on newer cars.
Frank from GDM

go and have it checked out, even if there's nothing wrong with the way it drives, it could be a faulty battery, you might need to get it changed. My uncle used to have a jetta and never had any problems with it.
MattyBGS

There are several problems that can cause the check engine light to come on even though the car runs fine. Something like a crankshaft positioning sensor can cause this. Take your jetta to a reputable place that can check the diagnostic code that is causing the check engine light. It may be expensive, and it might not be. Have it checked. It isn't hurting the car to drive so who cares. Many people just leave it on or clear the code, not bothering to fix the sensor (if its one of the unnecessary ones).

do chrome bull bars interfere with front parking sensors on t5 vw?

Asked by: SUSAN H @ 2009-05-08 01:34:55

[Best Answer]Anything metallic near the parking sensors will trigger them off. I have a Volkswagen T5 transporter and I cannot think of any reason why you would want to put a bull bar on the front of it. Maybe where you live there wild kangaroos on the loose, this is what these bars were originally designed for not city streets. They kill people, don't have them -- they look bloody stupid on a van anyway.

I'm not sure about the parking sensors, but bull bars are known to be capable of shattering a child's skull at just 5mph. There is a lot of pressure from safety groups to have them banned. They offer no extra safety to the occupants, but can inflict terrible injuries to pedestrians. To many people they represent the height of selfishness and irresponsibility.
Tetchy Old Git

In the UK, it's illegal to fit them anyway - has been since 2001.

Anything at all in that area is likely to interfere.
They are not illegal unless fitted by the maker of the vehicle

zafira left indicators dont work but u can hear relay working bulbs ok anyone got a idea?

Asked by: Andrew @ 2009-05-08 10:33:58

maybe the bulbs themselves have failed
Wordsmith99

Wordsmith- Andrew said the bulb was o/k don't you read the questions properly ???
The problem could be a fault in the wiring or the connections at the bulb holder, have you got a test light to check if you have feed at the bulb holder when the indicator is turned on. ☺☺☻
jimmy the one

Do the bulbs work when the hazards switch is on?.

Are you aware there a two relays one for left indicators and one for right.
