Did you check your oil i think u might need to change it
Bankers Da Puppet Masters

either your fan is not working or your , thermostat is stuck or your water pump is not working.
*havin fun in the sun*

Firstly, when you put in coolant if your thermostat is not open you can cause air pockets. You should go out, top up the radiator with coolant leaving the cap off, turn the engine on, wait a few mins, you will see the coolant in the radiator start to bubble when the thermostat opens the coolant will start to drop, start topping up again.

If that doesnt work, go and get a coolant flush.
thexfilez

Your waterpump is bad.
Evil O

Ya I have a 2001 gti vr6 and both the coolant leaked and the waterpump went bad. definatley the waterpump for you.
Paul

most likely a water pump, my moms 04 jetta did same thing if you put the car in neutral does the temp go back down?
Robert n

Just a thought which, respectfully, the previous answerers have overlooked, is the water and oil pump driven by a different belt than your alternator and if so, is the belt missing, misaligned or at an inappropriately low tension to drive the pumps?

nope..Have it looked at.

having the light situation is about $300 repair on average for all 1996 and newer cars.

It means that the car is not passing the emissions standard for that year.
mdcbert

I rented Suzuki Forenza lately - there was a transmittion light o_O
It appeared to be not enough air in the front left tyre - can you believe it? Lol

if the battery is leaking, just change the battery. otherwise make sure that leak from battery does not make any damage on some wire or something

have a good one
ArtIst Mc

Change your battery, like NOW. Also make sure your gas cap is screwed in tight, it can cause a CEL on newer cars.
Frank from GDM

go and have it checked out, even if there's nothing wrong with the way it drives, it could be a faulty battery, you might need to get it changed. My uncle used to have a jetta and never had any problems with it.
MattyBGS

There are several problems that can cause the check engine light to come on even though the car runs fine. Something like a crankshaft positioning sensor can cause this. Take your jetta to a reputable place that can check the diagnostic code that is causing the check engine light. It may be expensive, and it might not be. Have it checked. It isn't hurting the car to drive so who cares. Many people just leave it on or clear the code, not bothering to fix the sensor (if its one of the unnecessary ones).
killer wolf

it could be a problem with your circuit...for example your circuit may be reading high voltage..but your car isn't "actually" overheating...basically in english sometimes the light may come on and nothing is wrong..its simply a problem with the computer(vw's are notorious for this)..don't take it lightly though because on the other hand you may assume the light is nothing but there's actually a problem..go get it scanned ASAP!

Should VW remanufacture the beautiful split screen camper van?

The Fiat 500 is a success so I say bring back the beautiful campers.

Yes maybe. I think with everything being so expensive, it would be a good idea to go and explore the country and not worry about high B&B costs and sleep in the camper van.
Ozzy D

Oh HELL YES!

I'd settle for a bay window Kombi though.

However, if they remanufacture it, it better bloody stay true to the original. Not too expensive, runs forever, looks funky and must be practical!

I'd prefer a rear mounted air cooled engine too like the original, but so long as it had the looks, reliability and practicality of the original I am SO there.
Fury

Maybe, my best friend collects them...bless her!
Patrick H

Oh, yes, I'd have one anytime. Only problem is they'd never get it crash approved now, if you think about it the "crumple zone" is your knees . . .

I'm convinced there's a good market for a small(ish), simple, pretty camper, rather than the mobile bungalows clogging up the roads now.
Bardic

They definitely should but it's never gonna happen, although you can still get the bay window camper brand new as they still manufacture them in Brazil. Another reason they should is because the rarer splitties get, the further they drift away from me ever being able to afford one!!

VW made a concept microbus a few years back but for whatever reason it didn't make it to production which is a shame as it looks so cool. Take a look http://www.seriouswheels.com/2000-2003/2001-VW-Microbus-Concept.htm

The split screen transporter is an ancient design. The immediate consideration would be whether or not to revamp it or try to remain faithful to the original. In the case of the former option, enthusiasts would object (as illustrated by other comments posted herewith) in the case of the latter certain aspects would be in conflict with current safety requirements.

Personally, the traits of the split screen make it undesirable for it to be relaunched in its original guise; poor steering and handling and ludicrously poor brakes - repackaged and launched as they originally were, VW would have legal action invoked when the crash fatalities mounted up. Don't get me wrong, I have worked on these, Type 2 and T25 but none of these sold new today would really be up to scratch against their contemporaries on the marketplace.

It is quite a conundrum for VW to consider but given the current global economic downturn, it is true to point out two unassailable facts; camping / touring in the UK is a growth industry and the purchase of any VW camper is a very good investment opportunity. The Financial Times recently stated the purchase of a VW camper was a better bet than buying property, so safer than, 'safe as houses...'

how much HP will a performance chip add to a 2003 Jetta 2.0L?

thinking about getting a chip(neuspeed)...just need to know how much HP it would add..thanks your answers are appreciated!

Asked by: Chris @ 2009-05-09 18:03:19

Answers ::
those chips are useless and a waste of money and do nothing for you or your car.
lessthan3

Install a high flow air filter instead 4 better performance
Jay W, aka JAX

Depends on the chip manufacturer, but the gains on the 2.0L engine from engine management alone are poor. Expect no more than 10bhp.
ladybugewa

8 HP BUT YOULL NEED PREMIUM GAS!!

TOP SPEED IS ALSO UP BUT YOU WONT GET THERE WITH THE EXTRA HP

AND A COLD AIR INTAKE IS GOOD, THOSE SHORT RAM AIR JUST TAKE AWAY POWER BECAUSE THEY SUCK HOT AIR!!

IF YOU WANT PERFORMANCE GET THE SUPERCHARGER, EVEN THEN ITS A SLOW CAR SORRY :-( BUT IT WILL BE LOTS OF FUN TOUGH.

OPTION B. 1.8T ENGINE SWAP
OPTION C. SELL IT AND BUY A 2003 1.8T(U GET BETTER HP, EASY TO UPGRADE, CHEAP TO UPGRADE, BETTER BRAKES,

Bought a 2000 VW Beetle from used car dealership, stereo in safe mode?

Bought it from a used car dealership, and the stereo is in safe mode. How do I fix this? Where do I find the code?
its the original stereo from what I can tell.....

Is the stereo an aftermarket or was it factory?
sparkzoflyin

call the dealer, unless the owners manual is in the glove box then it will be in the stereo book
Robert n

i have a '98 passat with factory radio and had a similar problem when the battery was changed or the battery died. My bf found the code I believe on the back or the top of the stereo, so you will have to take the radio out and see if it is on there and you will enter the codes by the numbers on the front of the radio (where you can save your fave radio stations)

also, i'd ike to mention, when you enter the codes, it takes like 5-10 minutes to come out of safe mode. I don't know if that is normal or if it was just an issue i had with mine, but that might be expected.

how to replace fuel filler pipe on 1978 t2 vw camper?

this is the pipe from the fuel tank to the petrol cap. When sleeping in Betsy (thats the camper) there is a strong smell of petrol, and as you are aware because the fuel gauge is not accurate I over filled her and petrol began spewing out until the level receeded back to the tank making me think that it is this pipe that is perished. I could live with this problem but it prevents me from having a spliff and been consumed in a rather large fireball.

Asked by: Derek B @ 2009-05-09 15:52:42

Its hard to get at but it is possible to replace the filler pipe with the tank insitu
J R

It's unlikely to be the fuel filler pipe, more likely to tank breather pipes have perished. You can change them yourself quite easy, go to GSF for the bits
Gizzard Puke

Replace all the fuel and vapor recovery lines as soon as possible or your bus will burn. read this thread.

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=266181

Or you can just listen to the answers you want to hear. I promise you the bus will burn they always do. The 30 something year old fuel lines are all dry rotted and cracked.

VW Jetta 2000 Key not working at all?

i got a new VW jetta 2000 back in January. i had never had any problems with the key until two days ago. it stopped working. the lock and open buttons dont work ( as well with the trunk button in the middle) i tried changing my battery and it worked only for a few hours. i need to know how i can fix this problem because i have heard that getting a new key is real expensive. i have tried everything. nothing worked if any of you know what i can do i would appreciate it a lot. thank you. everything works... if i lock the door manually and pick up the windows with the key it works. its just the buttons that dont work at all. is it a reprogramming issue? is it my key that is not working? HELP!

Asked by: Indalecio @ 2009-05-09 04:00:41

Unfortunately it sounds like one of those chip i,d, keys amd it may not be recognized you should try is the key working ignition lock w/o problem or not as if it is not it is more than likely the chip if it is only acting up at the door locks it is a system error and diagnostics have to be done at vw
Jimmy

If it's working in the door, and rolling the windows up for you, then it is NOT a immobilizer or "chip" issue. It is a battery issue.
The batteries you installed are either old, or you installed them slightly loose. It's only the remote functions that don't work, and that's powered by the batteries. Open it up again and make sure you have good contact between the batteries and the casing. You can use a q-tip with some alcohol to clean the little connection tabs if you want. You also might have bent one of them slightly when you put in the new battery, and that could be the reason you 're not getting good contact.
ladybugewa

A lot of these type of issues can be remedied by reading your vehicle handbook. Sometimes your key has to "Learn" again. The info on how to do this should be contained in the handbook.
