south mimms service station A1M truckstop part pump 1 when you pay they ask for a vat no just make one up its easy , it would appear im the only one to correctly answer the question here . ITS FUNNY HOW MOST THINK YOU WILL USE IT ILEGALLY IM SURE YOU ARE A LAW ABIDING CITIZEN OLD CHAP .
Hoolio R

Unless you are "licensed" then it is illegal anyway.
If you were licenced then you would know.
photog

its illegal unless its for a farm vehicle! just be careful you dont get stopped by police if you put it in a normal vehicle.
SugarPlumFairy

you can buy it but you can't use it in a car .
fritya56

i sometimes run it in my truck when im low on money (off road diesel has no road tax on it) but my truck has a log farm license plate on it so i dont get bugged about it. i get it from smaller older gas stations. theres a station by my house that still pumps gas for you. they have it but its harder to find. try a phone book.
this guy

Yellow pages--fuel supplies--order youself a 45 gallon drum of red and have it delivered to your required site/boat or agricultural site.It is illegal in road vehicles, the customs dips test specific gravity and also the red dye is a dead give away.I believe you can add fullers earth to red to remove the dye,but its your risk, your vehicle will be confiscated on the spot if you are caught and that is just the start. The EU is taking measures to try and get it outlawed in Britain.I cannot see it being discontinued in the present economic climate as it would cripple the boating industry. If there is a canal marina near you in London you can buy it from them as well, service stations are the places that you get caught by customs.

Here in the U.S.

Red Diesel is un-taxed fuel..........thats why it is dyed red

It used in official use ........like government sponsored projects , offshore, farming , oil production, ect

It stains the inside of the engine with a blood red color also.
"Not today, Zurg!"

Wouldn't use it on the road - traffic cops now routinely carry a dipping device to check it.
Timbo is here

you cant buy it anymore, the only way you can get it is-
Getting a liscense, and buying in bulk for a large static fuel tank,
Gaz

its good stuff.... as no one tampers with it to cheapen it for profit... its getting harder to find petrol stations that pump it.... and most want it pumped into drums.. if you buy less that 80 litres you don t need a vat number.. but garages usually take note of your reg... everyone should use it in their motors as the government is getting too much off the motorists already... they can t jail us all can they?? good luck to you
poor o

This is agricultural fuel. Same like purple gas. The colorants are put in there so the road inspectors can tell if you are paying road taxes(which is in regular fuel) but not in farm fuels(they get some breaks otherwise your food would triple in cost minimum. The fuel is not high test either so I would never put it in my car or motorbike. There is a stiff fine if they catch ya. The government wants their money and you are stealing from the government.

IS IT NORMAL FOR A VW GOLF GT TDI TO SOUND LIKE A VAN?

IS IT NORMAL FOR A VW GOLF GT TDI TO SOUND LIKE A VAN REALLY LOUD

NO

i have one and mine sounds like a transit van lol.
Paula

No.
Surely you can hear where the noise is coming from with the car stationary?

Has nobody else listened to a modern diesel car or what?!?
J G

All Diesels sound like clattery old vans from the outside. The number of times I've been sitting at lights and heard a terrible racket from the car next to me, only to look round and see it's a supposedly 'prestige' German Diesel doing a good impression of a tractor!
EvelynThe ModifiedDog.

No, but when the engine is cold they do sound a little loud only from the outside of the car, this should not last longer than 5 minutes. What yeas is it?
mark m

Well it has the same engine as a VW van, so yes..
r doug w

Mine did this a few months ago.

Put your hand over the end of the exhaust and you'll probably notice a lack of pressure. Then stick your head behind the front wheel and look up at the exhaust. You'll see it's either snapped or blowing, just behind the CAT. Expensive to repair, but a good garage should weld it up for you for about 30 quid (like mine is). The CAT's are over £200 to repalace.
Thunderstruck

Your so funny ( again) ....
L G

No the tdi engines should not sound like a van when driving, Could be a faulty or sticking Egr valve that causes loud Diesel knock due to it being stuck closed.
Check the Vac hoses to and from the egr as the one that runs down the turbo pipe usually splits or comes apart at the push joint.
Do you have any power or performance loss?
If it sound like a tractor loud the exhaust front section or middle box has a hole in it and is blowing.

Volkswagen Polo - any good?

Any good

Yeah they're great. Had one that lasted over 10 years, with no problems. Also cheap and easy to run and maintain.
Nikiiiiiiiiiiiii

I lloved mine no triouble at all good car x
Mem M

Yes can be, but a Ford Fiesta is a lot better, & in the end cheaper too
JAMES -

Yeah, I've had one for nearly 2 years now and am happy with it.

They are a bit more expensive than many other similar small cars, but they have better build quality than most and keep their value. Fuel economy is fine, insurance is cheap and even parts and servicing isn't too expensive.

I've had a couple of minor problems with mine - it needed new brake discs and pads after just a year and a half and less than 10,000 miles (and it wasn't covered by warranty) and the radio sometimes randomly jumps to another station.

I mainly drive in town, and the Polo is pefect for this, but it is also happy on long motorway journeys. Despite just being 1.2 (70hp), it has perfectly adequate performance.
L205

Yeah, Cheap enough, Reliable, Good Econony wise. Perfect First Car aswell ! Thanks
Luke BT 3059

yes ok car but ancient engine's go for something like a yaris or micra
caegale@btinternet.com

They're not bad, but it's a very old model now, and many other cars are better equipped, faster, more economical etc.
Don't believe all you hear about VW reliability either, the Polo doesn't do that well in owner surveys.
I'd have a Yaris or a Honda Jazz instead.

whats is better volkswagen or crysler?

i need brief summary if beetle is better than crysler crusine
how can i check beetle reviews... because i am trying to buy a 2000 vw beetle for $1,000 but it needs a new engines... do u guys think its worth it... the car is in good conditions

heard better stuff about v w. quick note: v ws are notoriously harder and more expensive to work on, probably bc of the limited availabilty of parts stocked here in the states. but also, chrystler and dodge are easy to steal. i should know, my dodge spirit got stolen, hotwired and all,and it sucked. but ive heard the beetle is one of the safest cars in the road. check their reviews.
Nick

No idea what a Crusine is, but Chrysler's cars haven't really stood the test of time.
Jason

VW in general is better engineered, and hold it's value better!
LK

It needs a new engine(or can you rebuild it?) Check the auto wreckers for engines and see what kind of deal is out there. Also VW places that are not the dealer. eg guys that drive bugs and the like - they tend to know of somebody who has a friend who has one kicking around type of thing.
Best answer usually the simplest

KBB value on a 2000 beetle in fair condition is 3700.
a good used engine is between 800 and 1000.
r&r has got to be worth 500
are you going to have to do cv joints?, timing belt, water pump while you are there as well as the clutch?
You are at between 2500and 3000 for a car and you don't know about the brakes or the transmission, tires struts and exhaust.
pass, unless you are qualified to do all the work yourself, and in that case you surely would pass.
Lawrence S

It's a tie. They both suck.

Only VW would rebadge a Chrysler Town and Country and call it a Routan.

Hm, I think you have to give him a Volkswagen in order to tell him this. Good luck!
rosie babayyy

Well in all the time I have been working with VW's never ever came across one called a 'twang'.

Please let me know more about it, was it a special release down deep south only. Pictures please, don't keep us in suspense.

Now about the additional details - I just don't understand the bit about the 'heart'. I know all about the flowers and VW, but never about the heart and VW (except that classic VW owners all have given their hearts to their lovely little cars.

Well Ma'am, I rekkon you already know how to make this Cowboy's twang excited......

T reg VW Golf gti (petrol) wont turn over when trying to start?

I have a T reg VW Golf gti (petrol) and when I try to start it the ignition works but it does not turn over, this happened a couple of times then it was ok for a while but now it has done it again, I know this sounds like the starter motor but someone has said it may be the spark plugs (which are old) does this sound like it could be the problem? Thanks, Jake Spencer

Asked by: jakespenceruk @ 2009-04-09 13:46:21

Answers ::
Sounds like the spark plugs. Even if it's not, they need changing and only cost around £20.
s.m

If it won't turn over at all then it's the battery or starter. If it does turn over but won't start it could be the plugs or the fuel system.
Lloyd Christmas

if the engine won't turn over then it is a starter problem, clean up the contacts then should be ok
techniwizz

do you have ignition lights on dashboard? when you try starting the car do they dim? does it make a odd clicking noise?
if dash lights and dim on starting then could be flat battery.
if all above happens with clicking then could be battery or starting motor.

the spark plug system is nothing to do with the starting circuit. they are two different circuits.

if you have power then that will feed the ecu and rest of electrics.

first you need to get vehicle trying to turn over. i would try charging battery first for 18hrs-24hrs on trickle charge, then see what happens.

if the car has been sat for a while then the solinoid (little round bit on side of starting motor) maybe stuck, get a mate to help you by turning ignition and with a handle of hammer or big long bar bang the starter. if it jumps to life then the starter is on its last legs n needs changing

hope this helps
mrs.cookie

Just that you are aware what "turn over" means. If everything is moving in the engine compartment when you turn the key but it won't turn over any more when you let go of the key...turnover.
If just the dash lights come on and you might hear a clicking noise that is not turning over.
If that is the 2 situations you are having, then it is most likely starter solenoid.
Spark plugs just make the car run(either good or bad - bad in the way that it may backfire, or consumes a lot of gas, or just doesn't seem to have the pick up and go it once did, or start on the first half turn of the starter).
You are having a problem of it not turning over sometimes if I understand you and that is either a starter solenoid or a bad battery connection or a bad battery.

WHY IS MY 1998 VW GOLF GT TDI SO LOUD?

Ive got a 1998 vw golf gt tdi 110 and its so loud in fact its to loud?
Ive had to put a new engine in and everything is working fine but the car sounds like a van or a tractor and its getting hard to drive because of the noise?

Any idea what it could be my vw golf sounds like a tractor and its not normal because it didnt use to sound like that before?

Cheers

Answers ::
Most likely a knackered exhaust, nothing to do with the engine.
J G

If it's got louder since the engine was changed then it's probably an exhaust issue. Either it's blowing from the manifold or it's touching the floor of the car after being moved when the engine was out. Or it may just coincidentally have a big hole in it!
EvelynThe ModifiedDog.

maybe because the exaust is shoter then it is ment to b
Krenar S

it's a diesel.
