GTI or Jetta VR6

I would drive anything older then a 05, I hate the looks of the older VW, except the 88 Rabbit, love that thing a lot. They are excellent machines, no question about it. Personally I'm more of a Subaru/Hyundai/Mazda guy. But people gotta give props to VW for what they have archived

I do drive one (08 Jetta). It will take a lot to make me buy another VAG car.

uthockey32

Have owned/driven Ford, Mazda, Toyota, Honda over a 30+ year span. Some time ago, I drove a friends VW. The car [1986 GTI] was phenominal! Needless to say, I went and bought one .
Since then I have owned only VWs.
I usually drive them for abt 90k miles and then trade for a new one .
My current VW is a 2006 GTI with 47k bullet-proof , enjoyable miles on it . The GTI, just like the other VWs I have owned, is a durable, fun-to-drive car.
Although I know VWs are not perfect [what auto is?], in my ownership experience not one of them has ever let me down.
So thats my 2cents worth.....
Yes, YES , I will continue to drive VWs!!!
fenton

I own 8 Volkswagen's.....and the one I drive the most is a 71. These cars are great! I can drive almost 400 miles on 3/4 of a tank of gas.. I
restore them, keep them, show them, and never sell them. Yeah, I would drive my Volkswagen's. The 71 is my newest, my 65 is my oldest. Oh, am I starting to brag? (:
Bug

Yeah, I had a Mk4 GLS 2.0 Jetta and it was a piece of slop, but then I traded up to a Mk4 GLX VR6 and it was a sweet car. Hauled balls, and never gave me a single problem. It got totalled when it was rear-ended by a Suburban with bull bars on the front and got plowed into the van in front of me, but I walked away from it without injury, so hey!

whats the best oil to use fo gti 1.8 t?

any suggestions?

I would say fully synthetic oil, mobil one is good. I think that anything with a turbo needs careful attention to the engine oil. Most people dont know that the turbo bearings are cooled by the engine oil, and that they spin around 300,000 rpm. So having good, quality oil is probably best. The dealer puts in regular oil but I wouldn't. If you take it to have the oil changed be sure to watch them change your oil because they often will tell you one thing and put in another.

Also make sure to use a vw oil filter, the aftermarket oil filters are made to filter out too fine a particle and causes pre-mature wear on your oil pumping system. You have a bypass valve on your oilcooler in your car, and since these filters slow down the flow of oil to the turbo, the oil bypass opens sooner. In my opinion a slightly higer flow of oil is more important than filtering it more.

Pentosynth 5w-30 made by Pentosin, a German company. It will last for 15,000 miles, but I change mine at 10,000 because of the precious turbo.

30m deciding between New Prius, 07 Audi A4, 07 BMW 3-Series, or 07 VW passat.?

Also what is the best color? Dark grey or black?

damn that charcoal grey or black audi is where is at in my opinion.

aight tty im audi 500 OUT good luck ps fk a prius

Prius is on the list why??? did you lose a bet??

I like the Audi myself...everyone has a BMW 3 series
former customer

Prius:
+Fuel Economy.
-It's a Prius.
+Some people like that sort of thing.
-The people who do are pretty much boring.
+It will never, ever, ever go wrong.
-The inside is horrific when compared to the German cars.

3-Series
+BMW makes amazing pieces of engineering.
+Best handling out of all four.
-It's sort of blandly styled.

Passat
+It's safe and sensible.
-Maybe a bit too much so.
+Comfortable, reliable, fairly economical.

A4
+It's an Audi.
-Shares it's platform and various bits with the Passat, Seat Exeo, and Skoda Superb.

Dark grey. Black shows dirt too easy, gets hot, and makes you look like a gangster. Which is fine, if you happen to be a gangster.

Other cars to consider: VW CC, VW GTI.

You have quite the array of choices. In my opinion the audi is the choice. it has AWD, a sweet interior, likely the 2.0t motor (fuel efficient and tunable), and nice looks to boot.

The reasons for the others to be in the running is a mystery to me. The prius? why would you consider a prius compaing it to three really fun cars to drive? You sit in a prius and then get into any one of the other cars.

BTW black is very hard to keep clean, dark grey is a little better and looks better with regular alloy wheels.
For almost 30k brand new you think they would give you an interior that wasn't totally cheap and cheap looking plastic. and the seats? try driving one whole tank of gas in those seats, they suck and anybody telling you different has an iron ass.

But of the three (because the prius is silly) choices, you have awd, fwd, and rwd. That choice depends on where you live. If you live in the northeast like me, the awd is definitely handy, as is the front wheel drive. (i've owned and audi, and laguhed at the bmw guys having their "ultimate driving experience" while stuck in the snow spinng their tires.) The bmw is a sweet car and no one can discount that, but if you live where your going to have snow and can't afford the 5grand extra for the 330ix then go with the audi. The vw is probably the most fuel efficient of the three based on it probably being a 2.0t and it is marginally lighter than the audi. You get much the same features as the audi as it is the same platform car as the audi.

My honest opinion, the audi. You'll be happy. and you can laugh doing dogunuts in the snow in a fellow bmw owners driveway when hes stuck at home in the snow and can go out for starbucks..... haha

Why won't the valves on my vw engine move?

None of the valves on my brother's 1600cc air cooled vw engine will move. I know the engine is not locked up because it will turn over although it won't start. There was water in the valve cover on one side.

I'm not sure about a vw engine but if none of the valves aren't moving its probably because the cam isn't turning.
mad dawg

Broken timing chain or timing gears
DodgeDude

the pushrods may be broken, the camshaft bearings may be bad and arent pushing the valves far enough up and down.

How do you know the valves aren't moving? if you have opened the heads and do not see them moving?

If you can turn the engine over and it dosent start it could be a mulititude of reasons. If your vavles weren't opening you probably would have some strange noises coming from the engine when you crank it over. Propbably like a bent/broken pushrods.

I would say that it is likely a fuel or spark problem if you can turn it over. Valves have to move when you crank the engine over unless the pushrods are missing. there is something else likely wrong other than the valves.
Dan S

I guess that your saying that with the valve cover off, while some one is cranking the starter the rocker assembly is not pussing the valves open? you cant push them open by hand those springs might not look like much but there stiff as h3ll. the cam could have badly worn lobes but this usually only happenes on one lobe at a time. remeber there are only four lobes and they each operate 2 valves a peice. i have burnt off a lobe once and it kills 2 cylenders at the same time.
I would do this. if you know how to do a valve adjustment, start there. maybe there is a lot of lash I.E. too much space between the rocker and the valve stem. the valves only move a little bit 4-5 MM. I think. set the gap to .004in.with a feeler gauge. To see if the cam is ok, do this: with the valve cover off, one side. put four fingers on the bottoms of the rockers where the push rods touch and have some one crank the starter. you should feel the rise and fall of the cam lobes. if not make sure the push rods are not out of place. they should not be anywhere but right in the middle of the rocker arm. they should all rise the same amount when the cam is turning. if not you either have a broken cam(it happens) or a worn down lobe. if you had been driving with a dropped seat and never readjusted the valve lash this would put a bunch of wear on the cam. once you get through the 2mm of nitriting (Hardening) on the cam the lobe just melts away. the water in the valve cover is not part of the problem. the valves cant rust in to place, the valve guides are bronze and don't rust.
valve adjustment, check points gap, spark at the coil, put in fresh gas(remove the old) check fuel filter.
if you have spark and you have air the only thing left is the right amount of fuel. check for vacume leaks once you get it running.
one more thing if one or more of the valves is tight, has no lash(.004 space) then that valve is held open all the time, therefore no compression in that cylender. it'll run with one or two tight valves but not well and will have a real hard time starting.
if you don't know how to do the valve adjustment rock each rocker back and forth keeping track of where the distributer is pointing. in other words, pull the dist cap look at the rotor and the cap to see what cylender is supposed to be firing(follow the plug wire). you can rock the car forward in first to turn the rotor where you want it. so with the rotor pointing at No1 rock the rockers on cyl no1. the rockers should be free to move a little bit. now rock the car forward so the rotor points at no4 and wiggle those to feel for lash. and so on check all 16 valve rockers. if one does not rock( on a cylender that the rotor is pointing at) losen the adjuster a touch. get a manual and youll figure it out. good luck

How do you open the roof on the VW beetle?

Asked by: Karen @ 2009-07-21 17:20:39

Answers ::
this may sound stupid but you just open the roof.

is it a convertible?
roobeh

Is it a convertible?

If so, you push the little part in the center that says "OPEN" and the handle pops down. You pull down on the handle and twist it and the roof is loose. There's a little button by the parking brake and you pull that up and it'll lower the top.

If it's a sunroof/moonroof...

There's a little dial between the rearview mirror and the sunroof. Turn it all the way back and it'll open it up.

Twist the knob above the rear view mirror.

Does the Volkswagen Cabrio come in automatic transmission?

or just manual...

Asked by: tytytyty @ 2009-07-20 14:08:18

Answers ::
autos.msn.com would have that. It's an easy site to use. I'd tell ya but you didn't say the year.
webjnke1

The Cabrio (the model based upon various generations of the Golf/Rabbit platforms) came in both automatic and manual transmissions. The manual transmissions are prefered due to the better fuel economy they offer as well as better use of the engine's horsepower and reliability vs. the automatic transmission versions.

The NEW Beetle convertible suffered from numerious issues during its first two years of production before finally becoming somewhat reliable; even with all the updates, the first two years of the convertible are to be avoided if at all possible.

Hope this helps, a car nut.

Yes they came in automatic transmission to.
