An intake would work and if you have money you can slap on a turbo.
Joe

Step on the pedal farther. You should concentrate on making it safer & more fuel efficient.
The Eagle Keeper

turbocharger or supercharger. they are expensive though so i would install a good cool intake first
MasterFlash

Turbo will have a mojor effect but they cost alot. You could install a cold air intake
james

intake turbo nos slap shift gear shifter
17yr old kid named jordan

Everyone is saying turbo...there too much money, the use more gas, and there just all around not that easy to keep up. Invest in a SHORT RAM INTAKE, stay away from COLD AIR INTAKES because the cold air intake filter is located right by your front bumper and in the winter when its wet out and you drive water gets into the filter and there it goes..gotta buy another filter. So get a short ram intake, you could buy a throttle body spacer, headers, exhuast...little things.

I know this isn't that helpful but it looks like you have a MK4, those were the slowest golfs/rabbits with the VR6. Besides turbo, supercharger, RAM air, maybe consider weight reduction. If you don't use your backseat a lot pull it out, maybe remove the A/C, etc..., you'd be surprised how much the stuff you don't "need" weighs haha. There will be a ton of stuff here:

Mack Antilles

k&n filter, some good spark plug like split fire or iridium plugs, change all your lubricants to royal purple, upgrade your sparkplug wires, remove your cat (off road use only lol) performance muffler, dont know if there are any pulley kits for your car but if there are they will free up some horses too, and headers, but the best bang for your buck is nitrous, a 100 shot should be safe if your motor is stock
sphinx

turbo, *C2 software*, intake, etc..... the C2 will give you the most gains depending on what else you have upgraded.

lol first off : a 14 year old cant be sexy. hahahaha.
you can be cute.
second : if you're ALMOST 15, why are you getting a car NOW when you cant even drive for another year and a half.
third: nah i wouldnt get one. youd grow out of it and then feel like a loser when you're actually old enough to drive it.
kjhlku

haha, I have not heard people call it a slug bug that's cute. umm, your really lucky to be getting your own car the only thing I can say about them is if you get into a bad accident there is not much protection involved. Also, think about how many people are getting punched b/c of you! jk.;) umm, I would say get any type of convertible is a fun teen car.

p.s. don't you have to be 16 to drive a car?? sorry but a 14 year old cant be sexy, but they can be 'cute' (hate to say it but you will think the same when your older)
Soooo...

With a VW BUG it depends on if it's new or used. The new ones start out at 18,000 in price and up. Depends what extras you get on them. This is a 2009 price. They say the new ones have a lot of bugs in them( on pun intended). The engines are now in front unlike the old ones that had them in the back. They only get 22 miles a gallon. That's not good. You have to look out for the used ones. Looks can be deceiving on matter how cute they are.
At 15, you have enough time to really check them out. Have a parent take you to a VW sales room to get info on the car. Go to internet cites for VW to get more info. Check into the history of the VW. You will be surprised to find out so much about them.
mustang69

you should get a corolla s. they're way cuter and it'll be easier when you can start driving people. it'll also last you a lot longer, and you won't grow out of it!

the oil light comes on when driving and stays on and there is a buzzing noise to anyone know about this?

low oil pressure or low oil level
Randy F

put more oil in....
songbird2384

Hmm
Well since im captain obvious and all CHANGE YOUR OIL!!!
Mike Q

YOU DON'T HAVE OIL PRESSURE AND ARE RUINING THE ENGINE!

I bet you are out of oil. Did you check?
hack_ace

yes, either your oil is low and you should add more, and also look into checking for possible oil leaks, or if its anything like the panel van I drive for work, it may be telling you to change the oil. (which explains the buzzing noise) my work truck buzzes and lights up with a message saying to change the oil.
DINGER0305

Believe your instruments!

A oil light that is ON indicates low oil pressure in the engine! The bearing and other components are not receiving proper lubrication and will fail shortly. Big $$$$ to repair or replace your engine.

First, check the oil level in the engine using the dipstick. If you're truly lucky, the oil pressure sending unit is bad. Most unlikely. Most likely the engine oil level is very low or the oil pump has failed or the filter is clogged ( again, unlikely).

You should not operate the engine until the cause is known. The buzzing noise will just increase until the engine finally seizes up and stops running.
jack w

the light indicates low oil pressure 1st check oil level if thats ok try changing the pressure switch. Dont use the car untill you know its ok.
J M

look under hood for excessive oil drip! Oil sending unit could be gone out which the buzzer will come on and warn you! Or oil pump which will lock up your engine if it's not the oil sending unit(most likely)

Do NOT keep putting oil in it! This will blow your seals and def make your engine blow up!!!!!! Do not add OIL! check oil first time of the moring before you start it.That will give you the best reading!

Classic car insurance from a 17 year old? less than a grand (VW Beetle)?

Hi all,

Im 17 a VW enthusiast and just passed my driving test. I'm not saying im going to be any different to the statistics but im not a racer at all, lack of experience is still an issue though

Guys preimiems are double girls and yet i think its possible to get insurance ive heard of people who have just wonder from which company?

Im after insurance for a VW type 1 1300 beetle or a VW split screen camper for a 17 year old.

As anyone who has tried getting a quote for a 17 year old boy its going to be £800 for cheap 1L car, 900 for a 1.25L Fiesta or 1,400 for a 1.4L Zetec.
So im after insurance for less than £1000 has anyone manged it for a classic car? and where?
The RAC quoted 1,100 and then went to ask about it and then they refused
had several quote for a 1.6L beetle (due to age and slowness) of 1,400 but would like under a 1000

Is there any point in adding air filter to a 1.9 golf tdi?

I have a 1.9 golf tdi sport, would fitting an air filter/induction kit make it a diesel sound any better? or would it just increase performance?

also is there a difference between an induction kit and an air filter?

Asked by: Justboy @ 2009-07-12 05:51:50

Answers ::
All cars have air filters to stop dirt/dust entering the engine and wearing it prematurely. If it is standard your car has an air filter already which should be perlaced to maintain efficiency at service intervals.

An induction kit sometims has a different filter and is a way of feeding more and maybe colder air into the engine to improve performance. It may make it sound louder and certainly not better. As your car is a turbo an induction kit would not make any noticable difference.
Timbo is here

There is a difference between an induction kit and an air filter. An induction kit will replace your vehicles standard factory airbox. The air filter ultilses the original airbox.

The aim of this kind of modification is to increase the amount of air entering the engine. The quicker you can get air into the engine and the colder the charge of air is the more you can produce power.

Large gains can be found on Turbo charged engines imparticulary if you can cool the charge temperature down. It should also be noted that fuelling should be checked and adjusted.

One thing you must remember is that an intake system is designed on a car to offer effiecency, fuel economy and also baffle against induction noise. An induction kit will increase noise, marginally increase power but increase fuel consumption and increase induction roar.
Caribic Star

if you want the car to sound meaner look into an aftermarket exhaust kit like flowmaster or something similar, it will make your car more throaty sounding, induction will not add much noticable sound difference to the car as all it is doing is allowing more air to enter the engine. also if you want to replace the air filter I would look into buying a K&N air filter as they are reusable and are good for 1 million miles as long as you use the cleaning solution made for it once every few months
DINGER0305

If you want to change the sound you'd be better off changing the tailpipe....I wouldn't mess around with the air intake system...if your looking to increase performance why not get it chipped and add a few more BHP......

How much horespower does a fully stock 2000 VW Passat 1.8T have?

Asked by: stan m @ 2009-07-11 18:48:30

Answers ::
the 1.8T has 150 hp, after 2003 that was bumped to 180 hp. The same basic engine in an Audi TT has up to 225 hp.
pbleek

not a whole lot
Scott

150 - 170 hp
Ben

Well, there are 2 different types of motors, anything made before 03 will have around 150-155, the revision has 180-185 stock(I own one such revision).

Look on the head for a 3 letter code, should be on the drivers side On the front.

AEB 150hp / 162lb-ft
ATW 150hp / 162lb-ft
AUG/AWM 180hp / 173lb-ft
AMB 180hp / 173lb-ft

However, the 1.8T is VERY VERY modifiable,
slap a chip and a FMIC on it and your pushing 220.
Swap the turbo for a K04 your at around 250.

Quite a ravenous monster they are.

1964 Beetle lack of power?? Help?

Ok, we finally got our bug started. Turns out we just had the cylinder layout wrong. But anyways, it starts up real quick without any problems. It'll even idle without having to gas it. But now our problem is the lack of power. It goes in and out the gears smoothly but it just wont go. So it's not the clutch. It dies every time it gets to the friction point of 1st gear. Why is there no power?? It cant be the timing because it starts right up perfectly. What is the problem??
please help,
thanks

im not sure i understand the problem.
so it dies when try to go into first? if so i could be a clutch poblem make sure it properly adjusted.

if the car feels like its slow then i would check all adjustments such as valve clearence, timing, carburator... if its just plain slow it could be that its a a 1200cc engine if its the original... but id really need to know all the info on the engine
Jack D

Okay, I posted a link to help with the most common problems you maybe having. It maybe idling fine because its too high, OR the timing is too far advanced. If its a stock distributor, then it should be timed at 10*BTDC statically. Some may say timing light but that is a matter of opinion. My 64's dist. likes static timing over a timing light. Also it may actually be the clutch slipping. Adjust it, your pedal should have about 1/2-1in free play. Some like it to engage with the pedal about 1/2 way to the floor. Your preference. Good luck

http://www.vw-resource.com/troubleshooting.html#engine
vwbuggin64

It can be timing and still start right up. Point gap affects this. Gap should be .016 inches. Static timing is best for this car. Do you know what that is? Valve gap clearance is next on your list. .006 set cold. That means don't start the engine at all before doing this.Stone cold engine produces the best result. If you are unsure of either of these procedures email me and I can help.
Gerry

Did you check the carburator? It may not be getting enough gas. It could be all clogged up. I had a similar problem, try that.
