2003 volkswagen golf 1.6 . Can i put a turbo in it?...  Hi,

i have a 2003 golf, its a 3 door , 1.6 petrol. its pretty quick but im thinking about putting a turbo in it, but is that even possible ?

1)   Anything is possible providing you have the expertise and the finance. The amount of work involved and the expenditure would deter me. Also you would have to uprate the brakes, tyres and suspension to keep your insurer happy who would then charge you an arm and a leg in extra premiums. Cheaper, and more sensible, to trade it in for a GTI. - Bazza

2)   dont even think of it, you have to modify too many things, mainly engine, lower compression pistons, manifolds, you need an oil cooler etc, etc, etc, the list is endless. - Pete

3)   It's possible, but way too costly and you will end up with a less reliable car. Don't build what you can buy. I have to agree with the other answers - trade it in on a similar year GTI. - Chris

4)   Anything's possible if you chuck enough time and money at it.

The question I think is "Is it feasible?" to which the answer's no. Compared to selling your Golf and buying a faster one (GTi) the cost of re-engineering the engine, brakes, suspension etc will be huge.
Also the insurance for a modified car will be a lot higher than for a standard faster one. - EvelynThe ModifiedDog.

Is it okay to use PEAK long life antifreeze in my 96 vw jetta?...

1)   The new peak or prestone formulas are designed to be safe in any vehicle. If the bottle you have is older it may not be safe to use. - John Doe

2)   yup! i have been using it since forever in my 97 jetta - Tina B.

3)   A 1996 has no warranty so just have it flushed and use what ever is inexpensive.

Flushing is NECESSARY to switch.

Yeah yeah you Dealer Screaming Mob tech's, we dump that expensive crap the day the warranty expires and Viola nothing happens!!!!

1)   One thing I can tell you about the two is they are not cheap to get worked on.I have had both makes but without knowing the miles on either I would have to say the passat. - Donnie Skelton

1)   Yes, the PCD and amount of lugs is the same. Depending on the size of your current rim, most probably.

No clue - contact your dealership. And sit down when they quote you a price on the GTI rims. - Chris

2)   It should fit, but you will need new tires. I think you have 16" wheels on your current car and those new "Detroit" wheels are 18". See link for prices.

You are looking at about 400/wheel, plus another 150 per wheel for the tires. You may need new TPMS sensors too.


About 2500 dollars for wheels/tires/tpms on all 4 wheels. - Louis G

3)   Yeah it's a straight swap. Go on eBay and get a good second hand set. It might take a while to find them, but it's better than paying VW £1000+ for wheels (which they will be). The tyres you currently have won't fit on them either. You will need to get new tyres if the wheels you buy don't come with them. The size is 225/40/18 from memory. - vavavoom

2010 Jetta Stock radio… Value?...  My daughter upgraded the radio in her 2010 VW Jetta to a Navigation system & wants to sell the stock radio they took out on Ebay. But, we have no idea what the value of this radio may be and can find no information online. It was never used, has a CD changer, 6 station preset buttons, very basic - made my Delphi Eletronics.
Do you have any idea how much she should ask for it?

2)   Dealer sells it for between $200-$300. Make sure when you sell it, you include the radio code or it will be locked for whoever buys it. Radio code can be retrieved by taking down the serial number off the radio and contacting a VW dealer so they can provide you with one. - Danny
