volkswagon- whats better year or mileage?

my boyfriend is looking into a diesel volkswagon jetta. we went to the dealer today and one car is a 2000 with 75,000 miles and the other is a 2004 and has 150,000 miles. they both cost the same. the dealer says the new car with more miles is better because germans make such great cars... said he has seen jettas go up to 600,000 miles

mainly mileage for any car i would say...it could be a old car but if it had low miles then that can make all the difference between a sell or not. for your boyfriend i would choose the 2000 with 75000 miles but thats just me
ryan

Mileage. It doesn't matter how old the car is, what matters is how far it has traveled and if the engine or any other major parts have been replaced.
Booman 1234

i say gets the 2000 with low mileage. vw are good cars but they start having so many problems when the mileage go beyond 130000 miles.

i say he should look around and see if he can get a 2004 jetta that has less than 80000 miles. tell him to get the tdi edition
roy

Sure! The car, May? go to 600K, But not easilly.
No passenger car will be a great car beyond 300K
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mileage is almost always the way to go, The less the better, unless the car has been mistreated.
The sales person is trying to pressure you into a specific car because he gets better comission. What other reason would he have to care what car you buy? All the cars need to go eventually, He just wants to sell you that one for TWO reasons,
First, More money NOW,
second, Another sales guy may sell the other car leaving another high com. car for him.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Salesmen are NOT YOUR FRIENDS, They are there to move cars, It's your JOB to get a good car at a good price.
brendongoldsmith@yahoo.com

Try autos.msn.com. They have some rating on the years and models.
Just_curious

id suggest to get the car with the less millage. it will last ya longer and its still fairly new.
Josh

Mileage, because you can have an old car that wasn't driven a lot, or a new car(in your case) which was indeed driven a lot.

For my first caar ..?

next year for my 16th birthday, or around that time, i think my dad might try and find me a yellow Volkswagen convertible. do you think people would laugh at me for driving one, or be like oh thats sweet?

Asked by: Meghan @ 2009-06-24 08:32:09

Well, I usually find the color of yellow to be a little unusual and rarely seen. But, since you are a girl (from your user name), I guess its ok to get a Volkwagen since I see many women driving them. However, I can recommend a better vehicle. Have you considered getting the Toyota Corolla? It is a much more roomier car, but is still compact. Also it is known for reliability and great performance all for a low price. Brand new ones are usually 15000. And when you go to college, it will retain its value better, when you sell it, than the Volkswagen.
Da Gamer of Life

if they laugh they are just jealous that they don't have one
hendo250

its not a bad car but i wouldn't recommend getting a convertible unless its hard top because someone can cut it or it falls apart over time... but ppl wont make fun of you and if they do then their really immature and besides you will be to happy to have a car to think about what other ppl are saying about it!!!
kels the beast

old ones are cool but new are kinda not as cool.
Jack D

I would defiantly not recommend a VW for a first car. I wouldn't recommend one at all they are not all that reliable.
cassie

VWs reliability have improved greatly over recent years. truedelta.com tracks data from real life owners and their cars. I would recommend checking those out. I say if you can get a VW, get it! They are much more involving to drive and have a higher set of standard features than say a Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic.

What kind of convertible are you getting anyway? A beetle convertible or eos?

If that car in the pic is a 1974 VW I will walk backwards to Bourke.
Are you sure you put the right pic in your question?
skytrain18

don't think that pic is the car you are talking about never seen a 1974 VW that looked like that
Dale (aka drc40m)

its not a vw. if it is a vw its a kit car on a vw chassis, the only way to know is to look at it from the inside
Jack D

That's a kit car put on a Beetle chassis. Doesn't look like a Bus chassis. That looks like a late 60s Ferrari kit, though I'm not sure.

What direction do you need?

Does it run? Is it drivable? Can someone buy it today and drive it home safely? Does it look good? Do you have the title on hand?

A safe, good running car is always sellable. Clean it up nice, take some good pics and advertise it on Craigslist, e-bay, autotrader.com. Check out www.thesamba.com for VW ads.

How can I check to see if the engine in a VW Golf was replaced, or if the stock engine is still in?

So I'm looking at buying a 2001 VW Golf 1.8 T. The car's got 165k miles on it but the dealer claims he changed out the motor himself, and put one in with only 80k. Is there some sort of way I can check if he's lying, maybe match the VIN# with the engine number?

Asked by: Ben @ 2009-06-24 09:19:59

Answers ::
The engine should have a VIN# stamped on it somewhere
FUNnCRAZY

check the vin number on the log book with the 1 on the engine
shaun d

he must have some kinda paperwork ,either from donor car with vin # ,or ask for car-fax for car your buying, personally if there is no any paperwork i would back up from that car
