Question 3
2003 vw jetta has problems?...  i have a 2003 jetta automatic with 102k miles on it. the car drives fine but when i start it up in the morning and put it in gear it shudders and stalls unless i give it a lot of gas. Also, its getting bad gas mileage like 20 mpg. what can i do? ive had the car for about 3 months
oh yeah i forgot to add the catalytic converter needs to be replaced

Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. - Johnny Johnson

2)   Splash the cash . Replace the cat . Get a general service done . Then get it in to a clutch/transmision place and have it looked over could be a sensor or could be just low on fluid or could be worn out . Theres no way to tell . Definately get the cat changed and servicied , that should sort out your low mpg and give you piece of mind . Also join a Vw forum and search for answers on there . Some one has usually had the same problem and posted a question . - tom

3)   replace the catalytic converter, probably getting plugged up. - electricman2170

4)   return it to the owner. - Roman

Question 4
Volkswagen wheels get dirty quicky?...  Does anyone else with a VW find there alloys get a lot dirtier a lot quicker then anyone else?!?! I figure it's down to the braking system, or is it just me??

Answers
1)   Mostly it is you - using the brakes a great deal. Dirty wheels are a sign of a driver wasting fuel by not anticipating stops, and thus having to use the brakes a great deal. You must have a lot of money to waste...... - Nigel M

2)   It's not an issue with your braking. What I found out is that VW uses inferior soft Brake Pads. While soft brake pads improve stopping distance, they also create huge amounts of dust. This dust gets all over the wheels turning them black requiring frequent cleaning. If you change the brake pads to the ceramic kind, it will dramatically reduce the dusting on your wheels, but result in some reduction in braking power. - John S

3)   They aren't inferior per se, they simply have a different objective. Carbon metallic pads are superior in terms of performance but produce more dust. If you want less dust you have to replace them with ceramic pads. Ceramic pads don't work quite as well but are quieter and produce very little dust. - Louis G

4)   It's because the wheels are on the ground, where the dirt is. Keep the wheels off the ground and they'll stay clean. - Don

Question 5
Volkswagen Parts Prices?...  Can someone tell me the average costs for VW maintenance? For example, oil changes and things like timing belts, or windshield wipers and costs of maintenance that most cars need like every so miles? I hear its quite rather expensive! Thank You!

Answers
1)   Genuine VW parts are expensive. You can by aftermarket parts to save money in many cases. - doane_nut

2)   VW (and Audi) service parts are very reasonable compared to other brands. Avoid main dealers if you have an older VW as their prices will be higher than an independent unless you want your service history to look immaculate with all VW stamps. - GibsonEssGee

3)   You can purchase genuine OEM parts from Car Parts Ware House which offers you the various VW parts for all models with discounted prices. - jeff

4)   German Auto Parts also known as GAP ..... two thumbs up from me ! - mr VR6
