How to check if the injectors on my golf are working.?

How to check if the injectors on my golf are working.?

I HAVE A 2002 GOLF GT TDI THAT HAS TROUBLE STARTING. I SUSPECT IT COULD BE ONE OF THE INJECTORS DOES ANYONE KNOW A WAY THAT I COULD CHECK THEM.
i have changed all the glow plugs and filters and still the problem remains.

Lab scope or there's a checker that flashes when the injector pulses.
Andrew

take them out one at a time, then get someone to turn the key while you look at the injector. if diesel sprays out then that injector is working, so put it back in and take out the next one.

though if it is just trouble starting but running fine the rest of the time I would check your glow plugs first
fixer29

if you have one glow plug not working it will make bad starting, injectors have nothing to do with it,so ,get them checked out,if you find one or more off, change them all because they are all the same age.

many people have problems over revving on their start up, but i have never expeienced this problem without it having to do with the glow plugs. i seriously think you should check your glow plugs again if this problem is occuring.

it may appear were when you have got it started white smoke may start to come out of the exhaust. this may be because it is old. if this does happen check it with an engineer. you could also try changing all the temperature sensors close to the thermostat.

i think you should check the glowplugs again first and this has no affect take it to a garage because it may need full service for it may be worn out.

thank you. i hope this helps. i any questions find in any way to comment me.

You are sounding like the people of old who don't know any better than to blame the carburetor. Carb-fuel injection=same thing.
You can't check and you would not know what to look for. I don't know and don't care. I got a general idea what it should be if I was in remote Siberia, but I am not there.
Easiest way to check,...give to the dealership shop and go someplace else for four hours or so.
Also, when was the last time you changed the air filter? And the fuel filter? Never done...8 years now, yeah it can't hurt. Are all the vacuum hoses connected tightly.(and not cracked on the ends)
Then the valve gaps will be checked as well as a compression check. All this is done before they even look at the injectors at the dealership.
Glow plugs are never the problem. You changed them. Did you check the fusible link? What is that? Alright, into the shop, for you have missed simple stuff.
In the summer time, even if only 1 works, you will not see a difference in starting speed. It starts instantly. Keep your foot off the pedal. Diesels start best this way.
Once it has started the glow plugs are switched off. Maybe also change the gas station you get fuel from.
Battery could also be weak. If it is less than 1000amp and 4 year old, it is iffy.
Could be most likely that you have air in one of the lines and all that needs to be done is get the air out of the line(for that air pocket blocks the fuel from going to one injector) Let them do that. If the car has ever run dry. most likely that is the problem. (that is why you never let the tank go to low "E or fumes" You cannot drive the air out by just driving it alot.
Also when was the last time the timing belt was changed. (Every 60,000 miles) If you are at the dealership, let them do it, for they will have to check injector timing after the belt is replaced.(to 1/100 of a degree) not by ear.
You cannot check injectors yourself. It is a complete removal thing and is put into an injector spray pattern tester tool setup. Not an eyeball thingy.
Has your "pine tree" been changed.?
Lost your lucky "Rabbits foot?" It was unlucky for the rabbit.

Have you checked the Condition of the fuel non return valve In between the filter and tandem pump. p/n 165201542B these can fail causing the fuel to draw back to the filter.

The only way you can test the injectors is to have a compression test carried out.

The Glow plug relay could be faulty making the glow plugs switch off too quick.

which year and model of volkswagen beetle is closest to the beetle in the movie Herbie or Love bug?

looking for specific years, model, engine info closest to the older herbie movies

I want to know ,too
Eric

Herbie The Love Bug was a 1963 Volkswagen Beetle deluxe ragtop sedan painted in Volkswagen L87 pearl white.
fixer29

1965(or6) The year the movie was made? Car could have been older like 1963-very popular year with the 1300cc 12volt system. 1962 had a 1200/6 volt system.
Model? there is only one: called the Type1.
Engine... Probably a 1500cc(mind you a 1300cc is better for racing and bolts right in)there is really no difference except for the piston size.
They used more than 1 car in that movie(both the hardtop and the convertible(in certain scenes)

VW manufacturers or repair manuals never called it a bug or a beetle. (the British used the that term (in slang) to downgrade the car "from Germany "; as they (the British and the French) felt they had the North American market and offered a better product...and with the War being so recent, they felt that loyalism will keep the German product minimal compared to their poorly constructed vehicles(when have you ever seen an English car "not leak oil"? or not loose bolts? or not overheat?or not break-down? (I had both.)
Again, something that blew up in their faces. That slang term caught on and endeared people to the little car. How many old English cars do you see still running? 0. How many old beetles from the late 50's?A few. Early 60's - a few more? People are hanging onto them for collector value. Otherwise they were used in desert racing, ice racing, bush rallies(cars to teach your girl friend "how to drive stick". If the transmission could handle her "learning", it was obviously tough.

Germany made quality products (that actually fit together) and took the European market away from the Brits and the French. And they did so in North America.

2009 corvette Z1. herbie was cool!
s h

1. For all purposes on film, Herbie is a 1963 Sunroof Sedan. However, Disney used several different year beetles through out the many films. All of the beetles were altered to look like '63 models. Disney used cars ranging from the 1950s models through the 1970s.

2. Herbie's paint is a factory 1963 VW color called pearl white. The color code is L87. Contrary to the name, the color has no pearl effect. The color is actually a solid, off-white color.

3. Herbie's performance ranged through out the films. In "The Love Bug," at least one Herbie was equipped with a 356 Porsche engine, Others used modified VW Bus engines. Some Herbies featured Porsche brakes. In Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo several Herbies were fitted with high performance 1835cc Volkswagen engines with 2 barrel Holley carburators.

4. How many Herbies were actually built for the films?
Hard to determine because it seems that the records do not exist. However, one estimate places the numbers at upwards of 50 for the original four films (not Counting the cars built for "Herbie Fully Loaded").

Very possible you have a blown head gasket. I would get it checked asap.

Blown head gasket.
I bet it's overheating too huh?
TJ K

Can only be one of two things, namely

a. Blown head gasket
b. Cracked head.

For your sake I hope it is the first, as a cracked head is a far more expensive repair job.

To confirm exactly which one will require that the head be taken off.

Are VW buses very expensive to maintain?

I really want one and people tell me it's not a great idea for a first car, but it's so much fun to have one. I've found listings for restored ones for about 4k to 5.5k and most of them have brand new parts and it says they run fine. My mom says they're lying just to sell them and I'll have to constantly be paying money for new parts and to fix it.

Older cars always take constant adjusting and repairs. Luckily older cars are pretty simple to work on. If you cant or wont do the repairs and work yourself I wouldn't recommend one. All those repairs will add up to a lot of money over time too.

You will die in just about any accident with one.
emiller1998

Because Volkwagen no longer makes the parts needed for their buses, yes, they are typically more expensive to maintain. This is also because they are older cars, and older cars need more work.
Lauren K

A VW bus can be more expensive to maintain than the same year VW bug would cost. For the simple reason, a bus has so much more weight to haul around. Now, VW tried to compensate for this by gearing the transmissions differently. But they never really could get away from the fact that the bus will blow more engines than any other vehicle VW made. They are a lot of fun, I've owned several of them in the past. The older it was the higher the maintenance was. And given the fact that I live in Southern California, doesn't help at all. Remember VW's have air cooled motors. SoCal. does not contribute to the health of any vehicle that relies on the cool air to keep it cool. No, I would have to say unless you are a decent mechanic, I would not recommend it as a first car. Get yourself a good reliable Toyota Camry or something.
Another thing..Old VW parts are getting very, very expensive.
dewhatulike

Having a VW bus won't be more expensive to maintain if you have one that is in good running condition, and know how to do simple mechanics yourself. Don't trust the advice from people who know nothing about cars. VW parts are easily available, with many companies that are remanufacturing parts for all years, not to mention that VW themselves actually still produce some engine parts, including long blocks. The main thing you want to look for is a car that is structurally stable, as some older buses get rusty, which could be expensive to fix if you don't know how to weld. The early VWs are fun and easy cars to work on, and there are many resources out their to help you if you do decide to take the plunge.

how do you take your engine light off a 2001 2.0ltr golf gti?

Asked by: VANESSA @ 2009-08-01 07:06:11

You don't. It tells you you are either low on oil, have no oil pressure, overheating, or lacking a charge to the battery. One of them For certain oil is the easiest to check. If you have no oil then you are just trying to break the car. And why would you do that (unless it is not your car). Engine jobs costs big money compared to a quart of oil.
My Work Here is Finished

If you disconnect the battery, and then reconnect it. The light will go out. However, it will come back on again if the computer thinks that something is wrong with your engine. Sometimes the engine light comes on at a certain mileage, so that you will take it to the dealer for maintanence. If the light comes on again after disconnecting the battery, then take it to the volkswagon dealer and have it scanned.
Shawn

ok first of you need to find the problem why you are getting a check engine light. you can do this by giong to an autoshop and they will scan your ecu and see why it is coming up. theyll tell you the problem fix it and reflash your ecu so the check engine light to go off

Would people make fun of me if I got a 1999-2001 vw beetle for my first car?

They look just like the brand new 2009 ones
but everyone at my school all has Honda's or normal small cars
I think its cute and id like a different car

they are SO cutee, whats your opinion

im thinkin about gettin a 2001 beetle for my first car too; I love the car and most people i know like hondas and toyotas but i want a beetle! They are cute and small and great for a first car! Doo't worry about wut people would think about yur car
nee

I think the main problem here is the car itself. People are going to make fun of you just because it's "So cutee."

That's not just MY opinion, this is my entire class's opinion.

You're welcome. Getting a Honda, while conformist and maybe boring, will ensure that you don't draw any unnecessary negative attention. Newsflash: Guys hate VW Beetles. Unless you're a serious carpet muncher, getting a Beetle will hurt your chances at reproduction.

You're welcome.

Thats the ad. Anybody have on of these? I'm curious how reliable it is and if I'm just getting myself into years of costly repairs and maintenance. Never had a VW before but always loved the golf.

eBay or Gumtree might be a better place to try and sell

check if the timing belt was done also. well its a 2.0 or a 2.slow, the engine is bullet proof very reliable i can tell you that. but if you want something that has speed and is fast get a vr6 or 1.8t itll be so worth it.
Lionel

I have a mkIII golf (mine is also a 96 :)), and with 192,xxx miles on it, I still love it. Repairs have been quite minimal outside of oil changes and whatnot. I bought the car with 145k on it, and it's never treated me badly. 37 mpg is a bit of an overstatement for those engines, while it's possible to maintain that, it's more realistic to expect around 28 city 35 highway. These cars are very strong and reliable. I can honestly say that buying a VW was one of the best decisions I've made.
