can you get a diesel golf that is fast?

can you get a diesel golf that is fast?

[Best Answer]TDi golf's are very slow! They have no guts. What you want to do is get a diesel car for its MPG rating. The golf blue motion can get 77 MPG. but it won't be fast, no sir!

no... but you can get a fast diesel. the fastest two cars on the LeMans circuit right now are an Audi diesel and a Citroen diesel.

Get the stick shift. The Automatic feels like crap.
Saecula Saeculorum

Get a TDI and do some diesel mods to it....fast, fun, and frugal!
eten_23

Depending on where you are and what your definition of fast is... Possibly. There is a diesel golf in europe called the PD150 which has 150 horsepower which is about as fast as a 1.8T golf. You can make them pretty quick if you are willing to spend a little money on them. If you chip it and install better(bigger) injectors it will be much improved;)

How do you feel about the Routan?

I hate it, how

Asked by: Dos Equis @ 2009-08-10 12:50:33

[Best Answer]The Routan was volkswagens answer to a minivan. Chrysler built this for them before they went bankrupt. Since chryslers mini van is the best selling minivan of all time, I'd say it isn't too bad right?

Well, VW vans, the old ones, were awesome surfer vans. The routan has strayed away from that, so therefore I believe it is just another piece of garbage. The Routan doesn't even offer Stow-N-Go seating.

If you want a minivan, get the dodge. If you want a good surfing van, get an old VW van. Either way, stay away from the Routan

It is a re badged Chrysler minivan. Good product.
djaca70

it's a rebadged Chrysler, which is a crappy van to begin with. now if they'd sell the diesel version here, that'd be cool

hideous excuse for a vehicle.
jacob

It's just a rebadged Chrysler Town & Country/Dodge Caravan

What's not to hate about that...

Worst VW decision. I was waiting with anticipation the Bus Concept they showed back in 2001. When I saw the Routan I almost started whimpering like a little girl. Here is the link for that concept,

what car has l8 mpg or less?

Dodge Viper, Ford F-150 5.4, Chevrolet Silverado with the vortec 8100,Lamborghini Diablo, Ferrari Enzo, Buick Roadmaster, Hummer H2
Hey There.

Ford Gt i think if you drive like 30 MPH it can give you 12 MPG and if you drive it 70mph it will give u about 9
Gp

Old Trucks, Maybe an old F 150 with 200000 miles on it
Love for the LN & DP

Usually older larger vehicles like Chevy Suburbans, vans, station wagons, etc that have many miles...your Corolla should get better mpg than that - maybe closer to 30 ??
not 2 B fooled

hey your just what america needs ! another person looking to get a hand out. dosent sound like you qualify whith the car you own now. so you think you should get your self a junker to trade in so you can get the 4500 of on a NEW car... what if every one thought like this? stop being part of the problem!
Tomato

You cant just buy a vehicle that gets bad MPG, and trade it right in on a new one to get the cash or clunker deal. In the "fine print" it says that you have to own the "clunker" for at least a year.

Why were VW beetles engine in the back?

was it so it would be rwd?

Asked by: s14 zenki @ 2009-08-10 12:33:47

Answers ::
Yes it was RWD. The engine was in the back mainly for rapid access and replacement. They VW were made for the every day person. It was one of the few things that Hitler regime did right. The VW Bettle was intended for everyone and priced as well. There were a number of other reasons, "mid engines" and "rear engine" vehicles tend to be more stable in the road. Also you get of the exhaust faster. Since the engine was air cooled (kind of like a mowing machine), the exhaust is hotter and getting rid of it faster is a plus.

Besides the designer was Ferdinand Porsche and to this day the best Porsche have the engine in the back.
Saecula Saeculorum

Not sure about the rwd aspect, but I personally think the designers put the engine back there to provide hours of fun at gas stations when the VW's first were imported in the US in the mid-1950's. Wish I'd had a digicam in those days to photograph the pump-jockeys going up front to check the water and oil when we drove our first one from California to Wisconsin in 1955. No water, right? And no engine either! Boy we had fun with those guys once we got them at the right end, that is.

We got ours new for $1900, it had a sun roof, an auxiliary gas tank [holding 1 gallon, good for 25 plus miles], and little recessed flippers that went out when you signaled left or right. The flippers even lit up at night! The auxiliary tank was opened up by a lever set on the floor hump, and woe be unto all concerned if you forgot to turn it the lever back when you got gas...as in, once you were out of gas you really were totally out.

We had to get an English-language shop manual from Australia, since they had VW's before we did and had the translated version. There was only one dealer in the state we moved to, so keeping up the warranty stuff meant planning an overniter....Montana is a Big Big State, guys.

Even front engines can be RWD. The VW had it's engine in the rear mainly so that the majority of the weight would be over the driving wheels thereby providing better traction. The Chevy Corvair, back in the 60s had the same setup. I saw a demo where they drove a corvair, from a dead stop, up a hill with an aluminum surface and soapy water flowing down it. The traction was amazing.
mustanger

This put the weight over the driving wheels . Most rwd have the engine and weight in the front and do not have as much traction. Most (all) fwd have the engine and weight over the front wheels and have increased traction compared to most rwd. The Beetle was designed back in the 1930's and it was difficult to have steering and driving on the same axel. The easy solution was to put the engine in the back.

The VW Thing was built originally as a military vehicle and came with a prop out the back so it was an amphibious vehicle.
jimanddottaylor

Mainly for economy of manufacture and to minimize the amount of space in the small car that's taken up by the drive train.
I believe the original specs for the car mandated that it should be able to carry four with a certain minimum amount of storage space available.
CAB

back then they were rear wheel drive and rear engine, but it doesnt need to have a engine in back to be rear wheel drive

What kind of VW bug should I get?

I either want a convertible or one with a sun roof...which one should I get? Im getting a used one when im 16 and i'd like to know what you guys think of each one...

The convertible will cost more to insure. Personally, I like sunroofs better than convertibles. My girlfriend has a 2003 Beetle convertible, and it is really nice. Whichever one you prefer really.
nick93mac

Get an older 70 or so convert.

Easy to maintain, fun to drive, and the value is going up (and up and up) currently around $13k for a really good example.

Try that with a new vw.
ca_surveyor

well id go with the convertible, they are fun and you have more fun with them than just a suroof and windows, my mom has a convertible and she will not sell it or give it away for the world. Hope this helps. Good luck. Also what matters most, Test drive the beetle with a convertible top down and then up, then test a beetle with a sunroof and take yyour pick.

When Hitler created VW, did he believe that intuition is only what you take from it?

WHERE do you people get your version of history. Volkeswagen was already about 20 years old when Hitler came into power, all Hitler did was change their name to "The People's Car".
barco

Hitler did create VW (the car, which later became the name of the company). What he did was order a car to be produced that would be affordable for everyone, where previously cars were way too expensive for anyone but an elite few.

That's a typically socialist ideal, having everyone have something very small and no choice in the matter rather than have people buy what they want and can afford.

Hitler created death nothing more
didnt made a car

Did Hitler put sweet rims and a cold air intake on his Beetle?

Once he became a big shot he got a Benz.

The TERMS had not even been invented in 1939, let alone the actual pieces.

He also added NOS and some big Micky T's on the rear and a whale tail.
