Question 2
replace floor boards on 1969 type 1 vw beetle?...  passenger back floor board gone do to battery leaking

Answers
1)   yes there are aftermarket companies that make many parts for those beetles, in fact it is still produced in mexico. But the vehicle does not meet govornment standards for the USA , however more likely than not, any parts you order are going to come from mexico. I did a partial restoration on a bug about 12 years ago, and all the parts came from mexico, my friends and I all had a good laught wondering why german car parts were made in mexico, but at the time, I did not know mexico produced the vw bugs still.
Check on the internet, or find a vw club near you and ask for some help, I am not sure who or what company is a good one to deal with anymore. You can also type 69 type 1 vw beetle parts? in your web search box and track down a parts supplier. Be careful when dealing with unknown businesses. Use a visa or mastercard so that if you get the wrong parts, even if they refuse to accept them back, mail them anyway on your own dime, and dispute the bill with the visa or mastercard co. and tell them you shipped the faulty parts back to the company and show them your reciept. Best of luck pay attention with who you are dealing with
I have only had a few problems, and I was able to dispute them succesfully by paying to send the parts back to the company that sold them. - roger

2)   There are so many places that sell floor pans for the Beetle, its phenomenal. This is a common problem as well. Go on thesamba.com, and search. - djaca70

3)   If you had said the front floor by the pedals, then I would have suggested one of the many replacement panels.
But under the battery is under the back seat, and is just flat sheet metal.
Just pop rivet a chunk of metal cut out of an old hood or trunk lid.
You don't even have to do any welding.
It won't matter at all.
You could seal it with some roofing tar from underneath, to prevent wind, water, or more rust. - Motorhead

4)   yup just use pop rivets or self tapping sheet metal screws to hold down a piece of metal. coat in in roof pitch or other tar sealer inside and out and you are good to go. they rot at the battery all the time. its kind of like a bug trademark - Air-Cooled (o\ ! /o)

Question 4
What makes Volkswagen's TDI system different from any other turbo diesel system?...

Answers
1)   VW is not the only car with a TDI system, no matter what it is called.
But TDI is a great idea.
It is direct injection.
The older gasoline injection system used to spray into the intake manifold, because that was under very low pressure and it was easy to use weak fuel pressures and injectors to still get the job done.
But the problem was that then the fuel/air mixture was in the cylinder ahead of time, waiting on the spark. And with the extra compression of the turbo charger, it could ignite before the spark, simply from the heat of compression. That is why premium gas becomes necessary, and why turbo chargers were limited in how much boost and on what engines it could even be done. They had to reduce the compression ratio in order to stop pre-ignition.
But the highest compression possible is what gives you the most power.
So what they did was to switch over to the more expensive injection like a diesel, that injects right into the cylinders. That means it can be delayed until exactly when it is needed, and then can't cause pre-ignition. So you can run much higher compression ratios. Much more power. But the injectors and pumps have to be capable of dealing with the extreme pressures in the combustion chamber, so it is not as cheap of a system. - Motorhead

2)   The basic principles of it are not different than most others. It is a turbocharged direct injection diesel. Nice engine to drive and the fuel economy is great with the manual transmission, but there is nothing special or magical about it. Motorhea. has no clue as to what this is. It is a DIESEL! - jim s

3)   No difference and it isn't a VW system its a Bosch system that Volkswagen use.Same as BMW,Mercedes and Citroen.Bosch are the real brains in fuel systems not some bloody vehicle manufacturer, the level of precision engineering used in diesel fuel systems is way beyond VW or any other car manufacturer for that matter including Ferrari - chewbaka87
