Is there such thing as a 4 door Volkswagen Beetle?

Question 1
Is there such thing as a 4 door Volkswagen Beetle?...

Answers
1)   No - Darius

2)   There was barely enough room for 2 doors, no. - robert a

3)   Yes, I know of at least one. A limo company in the SF Bay Area once had one; it was a one off conversion done in Southern California by a limousine conversion company there, I think it was a Krystal conversion, but don't hold me to that.

On the the samba.com site there is a link to a picture of a 4 door Beetle conversion, I don't know who did it.. but here's the web address: http://www.photobucket.com/albums/q33/Jeff_DeWitt/4doorBeetle.jpg

You'll need to manually type in the web address to see the picture, for some unknown reason the link doesn't work; but when you type in the address, you'll see the picture.

I don't think VW ever made a 4 door Beetle even as an experimental model. The "Thing" doesn't really count as it was considered in some areas as MPV (multi purpose vehicle) and therefore was a truck, and besides, it shared only the basic floorpan of the Beetle, not the body. The only air cooled 4 door VW's (other than a type II bus (and the for menioned "Thing")-- 2 frnt door, 1 side sliding door or 2 part opening door, plus rear door) was the 411 or 412. (often called a type IV or 4) The sedan was offered in both 2 and 4 doors, though the wagon was only two doors. In the US only the two door sedan had a manual transmission, the others had an automatic as standard equipment. It was a very expensive car for its time, late sixties, early 70's and didn't sell well at least in the US.

Hope this helps, a car nut. - a car nut

4)   If you can crawl in through the sunroof then you've got a 4 door beetle.

Otherwise no. It's a 2 physical door, 1 hatchback vehicle. - Theneelster

5)   not unless your stoned - mike

Question 2
Which would you choose, Civic, or Passat?...  Which would you prefer? A 2006 Maroon(ish) VW Passat V6 Turbo, or a Black 2003 Honda Civic LX?

Answers
1)   neither buy american - Levi Laguardia

2)   In all honesty I would choose the Passat over the Civic based on the fact that German cars are much better than Japanese. The V6 doesn't mean poor gas mileage. The Passat has more room and is more stylish versus the Civic, not to mention the simple fact that the LX doesn't come with a v-tech engine. That was only feature in the EX and SI models. The VW VR6 is a superior engine, better pick up, longer lifespan, and is a hall of fame engine. The Passat is a little more original and stands out better in a crowd than a Civic. Honda's are like tampons... every p*ssy has one. The aftermarket for Passat is slightly more expensive than Civic, but the parts are better quality and give the car a more unique look. - Christi

3)   um, the passat is newer, much bigger, much nicer equipped. I don't think they come with turbos on the v6, it's a choice between a turbo four and an n/a 6. either way, the choice is clear. To the numbskull that said "buy american": Most "american" cars are in fact built in canada or mexico with chinese components. The fit and finish is terrible, and they don't drive nearly as well as an import, nor do they hold their value as well. So, for the same money, why not get a decent car, yeah? - Dude

Question 3
if i got a magnaflow race series for my 2001 jetta turbo would it sound like a fart can?...  im looking to get an exhaust for my 2001 jetta wolfsburg, but im just a student with a low budget so i cant afford a $1000 exhaust, and i really want an exhaust but i dont want a fart can.... i have no idea how it will sound on a jetta because i cant find any videos on youtube with a jetta that has that specific exhaust. so what should i do save for a long time or get the magnaflow race series?

Answers
1)   i will sound like a deep pitched fart can i would say get a blow off on your turbo thin it will sound jet right the any exhaust. race series sound awesome - Wes

2)   I have a 2003 GTI VR6 with a magnaflow catback exhaust. It will not sound like a fart can since magnaflows are primarily made for American muscle. At idle it has a nice rumble but when you put on the gas it has a more refined deep throaty pick up pitch to it that sounds nothing like a ricer. I would suggest sticking with the magnaflow because they are a highly recognized name brand exhaust that are priced well under $1000. You are probably looking at around $500 to $600 for a good one. - Christi

3)   Im not bashing your car but unless you have the complete exhaust done right it will sound like a fart can likje one of those dreadful honda civics that hang at autozone coffee can mufflers - Eric

Question 5
vw aircooled engine smoking?...  So, my buddy and I have built a 1776. We have quite a bit of experience with old VWs and have never had this much trouble with a new build.
New piston/ring/cylinder set, rebuilt heads.
1st time we fired it up, it started smoking. We shrugged and took it for a spin, but it only started to smoke more. We decided to pull it and tear it down. #4 cylinder has some carbon buildup on top of the piston, we thought maybe we just installed the rings incorrectly - so we pulled all 4 and did them again. 2nd time we fired it, it still smoked. So we decided to try a used set of heads from a good running used engine.. We're still getting white smoke at high RPM or especially after revving it up.
The only things we can think of are that:
a) the cylinder, rings, or pistons are defective. They are used and not returnable.
b) the rebuilt heads were not right. AND the used heads we thought were good aren't.
or
c) the rings just aren't seating properly. We assembled it with synthetic oil, since it's what we had around.

anyone?

Answers
1)   Your use of synthetic oil would be my first thought as to your problem. I was always taught to use reg motor oil until the motor was broke in, as synthetic will not allow it to do so because its to slick..........Then change from regular oil to synthetic after a few thousand miles..........md - Uncle Jed

2)   i would say keep running it for a while. did you break the motor in yet, rev it to 2500rpm for 15mins. the rings might not be seated yet. run it longer to get the rings and heads to try to set themselves
