VW Beetle question people?...  I just bought a 1972 Volkswagen Super Beetle as a project car. This will be my first car, and I am working on it all the time, but I recently hit a snag. The car is stuck in gear. I put the gear shift in neutral, and I step on the clutch, and when I try to start the car, the wheels start turning! I am sure the clutch is working, because I just got done replacing the clutch cable, and it feels just how a clutch should feel. Do I need to rebuild my transmission, or buy a new one, or... what?

1)   get the new transmittion coz if the car stucks in gear that means the transmittion is dead - ArtIst Mc

2)   Don't panic yet on the transmission.
First check the shifter tube these get worn. There are bushings that may need to be replaced. There is a way to put the transmission in neutral at the transmission, try that first.
Also you clutch adjustment may be wrong, so read up on how to adjust it. - Old Man Dirt

3)   Old Man Dirt is right. Check your clutch cable adjustment, first. This is a mechanical clutch which will feel a little different than if your used to a hydraulic clutch. If still not giving proper engagement or disengaging, check the shifter coupling. To access it, need to remove back seat bottom, unscrew cover thats on the frame horn tunnel. This rubber coupling tends to go out over the decades and leads to sloppy feeling shift. Happy motoring. - Salty6
