you will need to do some engine work, porting, turbo, ect., but to make the car lighter, fiber glass hood, and trunk lids, pull out the seats except for the driver seat, pull out all the interior panels, and replace the glass with plexi glass.

No matter what you do to it it will never catch the 330ci if you want to beat that you could try something like a 350ci
Stuart C
cheapest solution would be to nobble the bmw but i do not seriously suggest that you do

its a 1.6 my freind. to make it really fast you must dump ALOT of money into it. you might aswell just buy a vr6.
Lionel
you could try tying it to the back of the bmw. that's the only way it'll keep up lol

To be fair, you'd have to put a lot into the polo to beat the BMW (time and money), but if you wanted to, Porting, turbo for sure, Re-mapping the ECU, you would also need to uprate the brakes and the suspension to be able to cope with the added power.
Strip out the car with any unnecessary weight, e.g. Carpets, seats, radio, speakers, spare tire etc. This will give you a higher power to weight ratio.
More of a performance orientated tire would also benefit you as that's what put the power down to the floor. You might also want to chuck in a bit of NOS to give you another 100 HP(ish) boost.
To be honest, sell the polo and buy something faster.... It really wouldn't be worth it, Unless you did it properly with no expense spared..

do u think the gti vw is a girly car?
do u think the gti vw is a girly car? do u think its worth it or is a jetta better? do vw break down a lot or are they reliable because i heard the older ones did break down a lot. are they gas savers? thanks :)

[Best Answer]The 400 horsepower one at the shop sitting on 19 inch rims, that is so low you couldn't roll a golf ball under it from the Coil-Overs, isn't very girly. Especially when it pins your head to the seat on take-off. But we have way more men customers in GTI's. And way more girls in Jetta's where I work.

No i dont, they are unisex cars, a jetta is more girly, but they both have good reliability, but i would choose the gti, although the jetta is probably more likely to have the better gas mileage
Corey
I do think the GTI VW is a bit girlie. And I do like Jetta's better. I hear they run really well. And they're four-cylinders so of course they're better on gas.
Megan
a GTI is uni sex car, BUT you can make it into what you want it to be, with nice wheels and some things you can add like a new body kit and other things liek that it would not be girly at ALL
trust me thats the car that i want for my first car(im a guy btw) and that car is BEAST if you know what to put on it, if your looking for manly speed then boost it up with a small nitrous oxide system which would be up to liek 200 and a twin turbo system if you really wanna experiance the full throttle, thats a bit more around 2000 i hear but i dont know that price well
ive been in a GTI and they run good, a bit heavy for the type of car thoguh since there 3000lbs, which is a lot for the hatchback cars but it has nice suspension so its not that big of a problem just dont make sharp turns or you will slide
BEAST CAR!
btw jetta is girly
it sucks and its ugly
but it has better milage
obi14life
Nah, they're very unisex. The GTI is a lot of fun to drive, and it's very close to the Jetta when it comes to gas mileage. Now, VWs are much more reliable than they used to be. Jettas get 21city/30hwy and GTIs get 21city/31hwy. But those are both for the manual transmissions.
Alex
maybe.. my gf thinks its "cute"

you write it all down keep a record of it shoul dknow how or what it is with a couple tanks
how to check fuel mileage
kelly_f_1999
Depends on what engine you have, but they're both close. I have a 1973 Volkswagen Std. Beetle with the 46 horse, and it gets about 27-29 in the city and 30-32 highway. It really depends on how you drive it, though. You can't floor it and expect good gas mileage. I was able to get 36 miles per gallon on the highway going 55 in 4th gear. If you want to get the best gas mileage on the highway, go 55; like most cars back then it was designed to be the most efficient at 55. On regular roads, don't accelerate like you're in a race. Not only does that make the gas mileage terrible, but it also puts a lot of unnecessary ware and tare on it.
Prime
It depends on many factors, including the condition of the car. Just figure it out. Fill the car up. Record the mileage on the odometer. The next filliup note the odometer reading again. Subtract the second reading from the first reading. Take this number and divide it by the amount of gallons you put in and this will give you the MPG. It will be on the high side. They always got great MPG.

If Volkswagen were to bring back the original Beetle, would you buy it?
I am serious about bringing the original Beetle back myself. I have a 230K square foot former steel mill in Connecticut to do it in. I did a hell of a lot of research as to how much it would cost me to buy the parts and assemble one. I would buy all of the parts and assemble them, which is what today's automakers do now (none of them make their own parts).
This is basically what I had in mind:
-It will remain aircooled, but a few modifications will be done to (barely) meet emissions standards
-I will use the 1584cc 50hp fuel-injected engine they used in Mexico up until they stopped production, just with a couple performance-enhancing mods to make it more sutable for today's roads.
-All parts bought from local machine shops around North America and Europe, assembled in CT shop
-Price under 10K no doubt, maybe under 9K
-No frills just like the originals, although power assist steering and brakes will be added for safety reasons
-Based entirely off the late 90s/early 2000s Mexican Beetle because all parts are still being produced and are the easiest/cheapest to get
-A few extra things that will make it pass safety regulations. They don't really need much though. I have this whole design down.
-All of this, while being everything the old ones were.
How bout that?
The first guy obviously didn't read the details. Safety features WILL be added.

No they were unsafe and dangerous, eveyone seems to forget this.I'd buy a moped before i'd buy a bug!

Give me $7000/car and I'll buy a mini-fleet and start my own car share program!

yes i love them and if they brought back split screens thats defintly
Lewis
Hmm, a very interesting concept indeed.
I don't think I would even consider buying one, although i'd love to see you make some. I've driven old vws in the past and there is no way i would give up my modern auto for one. So basically you are looking at $9k for a toy, and that is just too much for me.
Im not even sure you are allowed to do this. How would they be titled?!? A home made dune buggy or something? It cant be a 2010 VW as they need airbags and obd2 and all kinds of emissions stuff. 90's mexican beetles are not street legal in the US, so where would you be selling them?
The truth is i could build a bad a$$ 60's or 70's beetle for 9k. It would be all souped up and cool looking. It would be just how i wanted it. You might be able to find a few people willing to buy one though.

sounds like fun.. may i suggest a few mods to make the perfect bug..
add a split window but, they look badass...
use the old style front axle beam

is a volkswagen gti vr6 turbo? or do you have to install a turbo?

nope, the only ones comes with a turbo are the R32,
if your gonna turbo a vr6 make sure you have a good $3,000 to spend
Ophiuchus
even the R32 and later R36 were not turbos but straight motor.
The turbo's are only on the 4's thus the VR6 GTI's were actually a misnomer as GTI originally meant Golf Turbo Injection.
hello
no, just a v6, but if you put a turbo on it, make sure it isnt huge other wise you gotta upgrade the transmission the the trans can hold up and wont keel over, good luck, hope this helps

It is kinda hard to tell buy you discripton sorry, but If it went off you have nothing to worry about, now if it was a light that actually said something under it(like check engine, check engine fluid) then there might be problems, but no worries,it could have been just a minor flaw to your gas cap might be a bit loose.

That's weird, what color was it?

SHOULD I TRADE MY 2009 VW RABBIT FOR A 2010 VW GTI?
I just got my rabbit this january, i really wanted the gti. But the monthly payments wouldve been too high. So i got the rabbit instead. Should i save like $10K and give then both the money and the rabbit, for the gti. Is it worth it? Is it even possible?

[Best Answer]Absolutely, you won't regret it because the GTI is one of the most enjoyable cars to drive. It ticks all the boxes for a hot hatch implementation. Great fun!

Hell yeah, it's worth it.
The new GTI comes out in September so when it does, I recommend test driving it. That way you can make up your mind whether you think it's worth it or not.
