lol first off : a 14 year old cant be sexy. hahahaha.
you can be cute.
second : if you're ALMOST 15, why are you getting a car NOW when you cant even drive for another year and a half.
third: nah i wouldnt get one. youd grow out of it and then feel like a loser when you're actually old enough to drive it.
kjhlku
haha, I have not heard people call it a slug bug that's cute. umm, your really lucky to be getting your own car the only thing I can say about them is if you get into a bad accident there is not much protection involved. Also, think about how many people are getting punched b/c of you! jk.;) umm, I would say get any type of convertible is a fun teen car.
p.s. don't you have to be 16 to drive a car?? sorry but a 14 year old cant be sexy, but they can be 'cute' (hate to say it but you will think the same when your older)
Soooo...
With a VW BUG it depends on if it's new or used. The new ones start out at 18,000 in price and up. Depends what extras you get on them. This is a 2009 price. They say the new ones have a lot of bugs in them( on pun intended). The engines are now in front unlike the old ones that had them in the back. They only get 22 miles a gallon. That's not good. You have to look out for the used ones. Looks can be deceiving on matter how cute they are.
At 15, you have enough time to really check them out. Have a parent take you to a VW sales room to get info on the car. Go to internet cites for VW to get more info. Check into the history of the VW. You will be surprised to find out so much about them.

you should get a corolla s. they're way cuter and it'll be easier when you can start driving people. it'll also last you a lot longer, and you won't grow out of it!

VW Golf...good first car?
My neighbor is selling her 2005 Golf. It' s a GLS (sunroof and alloy wheels) with the 4-spd auto and 2.0L I-4 engine. It has about 65,000 miles and they want $10,000 for it. It's very clean and they take good care of there cars.
Thoughts?
Thanks!
It's been garaged kept, and they are meticulous on their cars. I borrowed a dog leash from them the other day. I was putting it back in the garage and I looked in the car and it's immaculate, so I don't think I can haggle much more. It's in great condition, much better then any other used car I'd find.

Yes. I have a Volkswagen Jetta as my first car and I love Volkswagens.
They are fun and great looking cars.
PAIGE
If they can show maintenance and any repairs, also check to see if it has been garage kept then it sounds like it may be great for a first car. Should get good gas mileage and have minimal upkeep. Are you sure you can't haggle with them on the price.
Bert B
Price is high retail. I liked driving VWs but hated fixing them and from what I hear they are still troublesome.

$10k is way too much for a stock car. My first car, and i still drive it, is a 2004 VW Golf GTI with about $12k in upgrades, 55k miles, and garage kept. The upgrades include a custom turbo, carbon fiber hood, r32 driveshaft, C2 software etc, etc. All in all I'm getting 600 hp to the wheels. I got that car about 3 months ago for $10 grand. So to answer your question, yes it is a good first car. But it is way overpriced, so keep looking and try to find a better car for close to or a better price. Good luck.

for 10,000 you can get a 1.8t with low miles and mint condition. or a vr6. dont get a 2.slow its not worth it

Do geeky girls drive beetles?!?
Because I used to have a convertible one as my first car, wrecked it (long story), and am thinking about getting another one in a different color (cream with black top)
all my friends were kinda shocked that i got one at first, lol. but i have a chance to get a different car any opinions? and are only geeky girls notorious for driving beetles?
(i really enjoyed my bug..)

Nope, the cool ones love the bugs! Get what you like unless your friends are paying for it, it's not their decision.
Jo
Not at all! I have one and love it. I'm not a geek at all, especially if there a convertbile that makes them cool, all your friends are just jealous
Shopaholic1122
geeky girls drive really REALLY high tech cars. bugs r cool! i am a big VW fan and if u gt a bug, u will enjoy it. get a older 1 4 classic style, stickshift 4 gas millage, and a new one 4 a sporty look.

1962 vw bug seat belts?
what year did they start putting seat belts in bugs? i have a 62 without and a 66 with belts and my 64 bus also has them

You pretty much narrowed it down. It wasn't made a law in California until 65 or so after most cars had them.
Mark
i had a 65 dart that didn't have them but it was that year on that all autos had them. year 65 on down you cant get a seat belt ticket for not having seat belts
mike d
In the US, seat belt anchor mounting points became required for 1962 model year on US built cas for two lap belts for two front seat positions.
In the face of mounting safety laws that were coming, (23 states were going to require front seat lap belts for 1964 cars) US auto makers voluntarly agreed to make 2 front seat belts (lap type) standard beginning with autos manufactured on or after January 1, 1964, trucks were exempt from this rule. Federal law did not require seat belts until the 1968 model year, where they became standard in front and rear positions.
I believe that VW was among some of the imports that joined the US automakers in making seat belts standard in 1964. (in 23 states, new vehicles were required to have seat (lap) belts installed in the front seat outer positions) I believe that VW made seat belts in the front standard across the line so because it was easier to have on uniform standard.
Hope this helps, a car nut.

[Best Answer]I can't find any specific history on the Wizard other than the design was a Beetle-based two seater roadster similar to the Ford Deuce Coupe.

You can still find a few for sale through various VW clubs.

its ONLY THE BODY OF THE CAR. no frame or fuel tank or anything like that. only the body. is 100 asking too much? 50 too little?

No not too much. people almost always get more than the parts are worth on Ebay.
Mark
the karman ghia's are beocming harder to find so 100 would be a fair price
flamin- pants
If it is an early front clip it is worth several hundred dollars, I would go take a look at www.thesamba.com and search "front clip Ghia" you will then get a good idea of what to ask for it.Good Luck Joe Chirco

2000 jetta 1.8t question?
my friend is buying a 2000 jetta 1.8t and hes telling me it runs high 12's low 13's. it supposedly has a 3'' Turbo back exhaust(dont make sense on stock turbo), new turbine wheel, forged pistons(also dont make sense on stock turbo), ported polished head, stage 2 wastegate, Short ram intake, light flywheel and i think thats it. I dont know how it will run more then 3 sec lower quarter mile then stock with those mods. it only makes 150 at the crank stock, my IS300 makes 215 at the crank and will barely crack 14's stock with a good driver, with the few mods i have (aluminum flywheel, clutch, short ram, ypipe and cat back) it will get mid 14's more when i get my cam gear.
im not buying it BTW. I wouldnt sell the class, comfort and styling of my IS for a jetta
nah i aint comparing my car to his saying theyre similar. mines full leather, full power, premium sound inside. Reliable 2jzge motor which also has a lot of potential and a lot of small things, auto level HID's, better styling, etc. Also if you know about the jetta it runs a k03 turbo, not k03s it can only run a certain amount of boost. my car is only 300lbs heavier his is 3k mine is 3300. But like i said he could have a faster car but mine is NA, if i throw a turbo on it, good bye jetta.

ask for proof, i don't buy it, but the right mods on the right cars you never know, i have an 03 WRX with catless downpipe, uppipe, midpipe, exhaust, stage 2 map, intake, stock turbo and it's runnin low 13's (my fastest is 13.04 :P so close!!) from a stock 14.2 car, thats a lot more in power upgrades than your buddies 1.8t
but i don't get your question, are you just asking if we think its true? if thats the case, then no i don't, but like i said right mods on the right cars with the right tunes can do just the right things lol

It is possible your friend is telling the truth. Comparing your IS300 to a Jetta 1.8T really is Braeburns to Satsumas (apples to oranges)
The 1.8T engine was specifically "de-tuned" by VW and is underpowered. Why? Because the VR6, which is the top offering for the Jetta only has 174HP, but commands a premium in price and is heavier. So if the 1.8 were to run (without any mods except ECU) where it should be, it would outperform the V6 Model, cost less and be more economical. Getting it to where it should be at around 200HP and similar torque can be done with a simple chip, which is reliable and also improves fuel economy.
Your IS 300 is at least 500Lbs heavier which also plays a part.
You probably need to race each other to find out though, and in the end you will lose depending on how much you lose by you can decide if around 13 is possible. But really who cares if his Jetta outruns you, like you said you are not even in the same class, with a bigger car, no turbo and double the engine size and rear-wheel drive you are in a different league.
Consider a proper comparison a BMW 330, in terms of price, engine power RWD and size. Although the BMW will beat you too, just be content that you have an Asian luxury compact with Toyota reliability and can tell girls you drive a Lexus.
Jameel
i have a 02 jetta (yeah 180HP stock but a chip evens everything out)
i doubt he will run anything faster than high 13's with the stock turbo....not sure what a new turbine fan means....never heard of upgrading the the "fan". the stock K03 turbo is good for about 250HP and that is with all bolt ons (which he doesnt have...FMIC) and H2o meth kit.
i have intake, 2.5" turboback, FMIC, Chipped 93 octane and thats pretty much it and i can take mustang GT's and Camaro Z28's and 350Z's all day long. but like you said, these cars are all different. i have been in an IS300 and it was nice. i still think my Jetta GLS (full options and full leather) is a nicer car inside than the Lexus IMO. the lexus was a lot more fun to drive stock for stock...after some mods i love the way my jetta goes, and handles...but nothing can compair to RWD...lol
