How do i pop my hood with a DEAD BATTERY in a 2000 vw passat.?

I have a 2000 VW Passat and my battery is dead. I cannot Get into the car because the key does not turn in the trunk or door. I just want to get under the hood to replace the battery. Any suggestions other than breaking the window or calling a tow truck? I might get a new Audi A4, any reasons not to?

Try using a metal hanger with a loop you make at the bottom of it to pop the door lock. You may need a small wedge to keep the molding away from the window while you try to hook it.

I assume that if the battery were charged that you could use your remote to open the door...

Not familiar with the passat but starters are starters.
If you can get to the starter solenoid and find the + battery cable, you could hook a battery charger or jumper cable there to charge the battery (the neg connection simply goes to some bare metal on the engine or vehicle frame). Some vehicles have the starter solenoid mounted to the starter and very frequently you can reach the starter from under the car. If the starter solenoid is not mounted to the starter, it will likely be difficult to reach. The other option would be the main output terminal of the alternator which also goes to the battery + terminal.

If you could find someone with a similar car or one at a used car lot where the salesman will let you look under the hood, you might be able to follow the battery cable to see where it goes.

4. now follow the normal procedures you would normally use !

BTW....I agree your question makes no sense at all ! Ya don't need a good battery to turn a frigging key !

I think being locked out of your current VW due to a dead battery is plenty good reason not to get another VW! (In case you're not sure, Audi and VW is the same company and the cars are exactly the same except the Audis usually have Quattro.)

Anyway, you probably need to get a tow to the VW dealer. Tow+what the dealer will charge you, you better "get out you're f'in check book!"

do you think it would be a bad idea to get vertical doors on a 2009 jetta?

I have a Lazer-blue 2009 Volkswagen Jetta and someone told me that they could get me some vertical doors for a good price. would it look stupid or do you think it would give it some BA uniqueness. feel free to leave any kind of feedback

Would it be possible to convert a early 60's model VW bus to electric?

I'm looking at starting a project car, and I would like an early 60's model VW bus. I'm wondering though if it would be possible to put an electric motor in it? Maybe "possible" isn't the right word. Anything is possible, right? "Logical" or "sensible" might be better.
Even better than just electric, what about electric with a small gasoline motor as a back up? Something that could be great for long distance road trips. Would their be weight distribution issues? I'm not looking at going 100% original with it (obviously) I want something cool and relatively modern out of the thing. But I do want something that I could actually afford to drive. Something that gets 25 mpg as opposed to 8 mpg. LOL!
Note : When I say project car, I use the term lightly. I'll be outsourcing all the mechanic work for sure. I'll only do minor cosmetic stuff... I don't have the time, or the knowledge to really do it myself. I'm a 19 y.o girl. And although I have worked with cars in the past (rebuilt a few V8's, and helped rebuild a '48 Dodge pickup *actually doing the work, not outsourcing*) I just don't have to patience or time to actually do it all myself.

A VW bus would make a good platform for an electric vehicle, as there is a lot of room for the batteries. But an early VW bus is a collectors item, would you want to reduce the value of a collectible? Also, the VW bus will get about 25mpg without doing any modifications.

Yes. This would be an excellent platform for an electric conversion. There are already several adapter plates and hardware kits available for electric motor swaps onto a VW transaxle. There's plenty of room for battery packs inside but the problem is the lack of technology available for the home car builder as far as electrics go. Log onto Car & Driver web site and see if you can find the article that they wrote a few years ago about the electric race cars. These were all home built units and would run like stink. Most of the 'bugs' had been ironed out of the engine swaps and the people involved with the sport would likely be more than happy to provide you with all the technical data they have for your project.

PS -- consider swapping the old VW engine for a modern Subaru unit. It will cost less in the long run and you will certainly hit the 25 mpg mark if done properly. A good source for information is Kit Car Builder magazine or web page.

you can do most anything you want with these things. the van would have lots of extra room to play with it true. but all the money and labor that you would spend to make an electric van would be vast for sure. people have many theories to offer when it comes to why regular gas engines still dominate small vehicles but really its simple; gas is cheap and gas engines are cheap too. its unlikely you will get better performance for your money doing things like hybrids/electrics. fix up the boxer 4 banger in that old van and it might get 25 mpg and probably will cruise at 60 mph+. if you want to build an e car don't let anyone here stop you but realize what you are getting into. its hard to get enough battery in a car for long distances even if you have money to blow. id stick with a gas engine myself stock or modded.
edit: i like that idea cowboy, a newer subaru engine would be very nice. i wonder if a 90s liquid cooled one from a legacy would work...
-i did think of one other thing too. if you want something very unusual you could look into building a gas engine with a "bi fuel system" most such engines are basically gasoline engines with water injection added on. this type of engine was used at least by one maker of bus back in the days when the octane # of gas was very low like less than 50. it allowed the use of a higher comp ratio and therefore better fuel economy/power. it was very valuable also during the second world war in large piston aircraft engines. with water lower min fuel consumptions are often possible, max power can be increased, and very low octane fuel can be used at high comp/supercharging. corrosion is the biggest problem usually and there is much complication to be had. just thought id throw it out there though.

My VW Jetta keeps shutting off in the middle of the road?

i have a 2000 vw jetta 2.0. it has 110k on it and all of a sudden it just keeps shutting its self off. Its not doing it at any particular time either. it will happen when im at idle and when im going 50mph. It has something to do with the fuel air ratio because i had a shop plug it in and they said thats what the codes were ( and there were alot of them) so they said clean out my MAF because it might of gotten wet. I did that and it did not help at all. I have been going to all kinds of shops and i have been told the following. The o2 sensor could be bad, The fuel pump, The fuel filter, or the coil pack. I have no idea what to do because i never know when its going to do it. I never even know that it has happend until i go to press the gas and it doesnt get any because it does not sputter or jerk or anything it just stops getting gas and then i lose power steering and breaks and everything else because the engine is off. It is not the battery or any grounds because all of my electrical is still working. some times the engine starts right back up after it has died and other times it take 10 to 15 tries. No one can give me a definate answer so i cant fix it please help this is dangerous

I had a1980 Jetta that did the same thing. Check the wires going to the distributor. Mine would run great till it got hot enough to turn on the eletric fan. When the fan came on it moved enough air to move one wire on the distributor and cause the engine to die. As soon as it cooled off the wire fell back into place, the engine could be restarted and everything worked great. Good luck

Time for a new car. VWs don't normally last more than 8 or 9 years. Let this be a lesson, stick with GM/Ford/Honda/Toyota.

I feel like there is always something wrong with my beetle,and i wanna know how the engine should sound.... my beetle is 11 yrs old... i just wana know if the sound is normal for my car?

Hi there, the sound to which you have become accustomed has evidently changed. The reason for this is unclear and can be determined by the inspection of a qualified VW technician only.

However, dependent upon engine and year of production, a common VW 'New' Beetle fault is the failure of the water pump; have you noticed the temperature gauge rising alarmingly, any coolent loss in conjunction with the new engine sound?

The earlier 'New' Beetles had a thermo plastic water pump impeller (turbine) which became brittle due to temperature extremes and now has a recognised tendancy to disintegrate. Needless to say, the revised water pump design features an alloy metal impeller fitted as part of a VW recall strategy. If your pump has failed or is on the brink of failing then VW should conduct the supply and installation of a replacement for free.

It might be as well to contact your local VW dealership to discuss and arrange an inspection, as it is possible your fears can be easily addressed WITHOUT hitting your pocket. If the water pump is NOT at fault or is unrelated to the specification subject to recall then, yes a cost might be incurred but surely it is far better to know what might be wrong and do something about it?

Another possible cause to your problem might be that the exhaust might have rusted out. Even with small holes in the muffler the sound will change even if your engine is fine. You should take it to 3 different repair shops and get their opinions. Do not rely on only one.

about how much would a volkswagen carmengia front end sell for?

i have an old front end from a volkswagen carmengia and i was wondering how much i could get for it. it is a little dinged up and rusty but its in pretty good shape.

He said it is just the bumper. For those of you that don't know the Karmann Ghia is a "uni-body" car. You cannot unbolt the front fenders and take them off of this car. It was not made that way. If any serious front end replacement is done it must be cut off and then welded back on. That is why serious body damage of any sort, especially to the front end decreases the value of these cars drastically.
