Des Elements

IB, son, it is Veee Gubbbbbb, Volkswagon's gay slang. Volks Wagon......yeah homo.
spooled20g

Just a slang word for Volkswagen or VW. Not any specific model VW just the car make in general.
Grant

VeeDubs is slang for Volkswagen. Whilst the Babylon dictionary (see below) says it is Australian slang for Volkswagen, I would have to disagree - it is used internationally (at least in the English speaking countries).

From
http://www.babylon.com/definition/Vee-dub/

Definition of Vee-dub
Australian Slang
Volkswagen

Also from
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=vee-dubs

vee-dubbin'

Cruising around in a volkswagen aka Vee-dub / V-dub hence the name.
I'm going Vee-dubbin' in my 71' Bay Window Bus this weekend.

Note : I think spooled20g definition is a bit queer.

probably the best list is Samba. You just need to get more specific when dealing with e-bay. To get better results pick a year- say 1965- then camper, then air-cooled and ask for exact phrase. E-bay is getting really hard to find stuff on lately. It;s like they have 4 search engines and none talk to one another.

Samba is more refined.

you can google your state or city and vw bus and should get some hits, remember this bus is slow as dirt but cool as heck.

One of the most common mods is a CAI, or Cold Air Intake. Carbonio and Neuspeed are two popular ones. Google is your friend here. It'll cost around 280 for the Carbonio CAI; installation is not included.

Also, getting it chipped is a great way to increase power and torque. APR and GIAC are two companies that provide an ECU program. Again, google is your friend.

First realise that automanufacturers are not out to produce a "slug" of a car. What is the purpose of the rally races? Or the BHP tester?
They try to produce a car that is both long lasting, reliable and has some go.
Now there is a trade off. You want more go=less reliable and a shorter life. You must know that the car makers know how much juice the engine can put out(after all, their R&D department has more $ than you and more engines than you can sneeze at to play with as well as accurate testing equipment).
All manufacturers have the same set up.. They make tons of $ on the selling of add-ons.
How to increase the HP economically? Buy a car that has greater horsepower "stock".

Can the average person change the ignition coil on a 2005 VW Passat?

Out of the blue yesterday, I started to experience trouble with my 2005 VW Passat, took it to the dealer this morning and was told that it is my ignition coil that needed to be replaced and it would roughly cost $500 (or just a bit more to do so). I checked to see how much the part is & its about $25 - I would rather have my brother in-law change the coil or coils as he knows his way around an engine (on american cars) and avoid a HUGE labor bill from VW.

What are your thoughts?

are you gonna atleast buy him a 12 pack?yep he can do it with minimal tools and probably less than an hour, geez $475 labor i need to raise my prices.
idontgivafork

I would take it to a mechanic. Not necessarily a VW dealer but just someone who is VERY experienced with cars. It took me about 3 hours to change my break pads on my 99 VW Beetle because we didn't have the right German tools!

P.S. My pops knows about cars too!
Allie

One of the easiest jobs to do. Should not take more than a very pessimistic half hour.

Allie, one hell of a lot easier to do than brake pads. No comparison.

I think you would be reasonably safe to allow your brother in-law to change the coil. Watch over his shoulder and see how easy it is. You could then probably do it yourself (if there is a next time).

Only thing to note is that the coil terminals are marked with a + and a - . Even though they look the same, just make sure the right wires go to the correct terminal (mark when disconnecting - you won't make a mistake then). It does make a difference.

Do not know why I am telling you this as your brother in-law probably knows it already.

I must admit, I would not mind being paid that amount for a coil change. At those prices I could retire VERY early.

help me please i have an 07 vw passat with 6 months warranty left today i got the rear passenger wheel bearing?

replaced and took the car for a drive and the humming whirring noise was still there so i went back to the garage right away and they said to get new tyres on so i did and the noise is still there does anyone else have this problem in the current passat range would it just be road noise when i bought the car from a vw dealer i asked was the car ever hit they said no but i have my suspicions

Get a 2nd opinion from a different VW dealer. Don't complain about the 1st dealer. Just take it in, tell them you hear this noise, and see what they say. They'll see the repair info in the computer, but keep it MUM anyway.
Rudy H

Be persistent for 6 months. The problem is not fixed. It should be covered by the warranty. After that sell it or live with the noise.
tichur

Sounds like they could talk you into just about anything. Did you need tires? I would say probably not on a 2007 car unless you have been really hard or driven a LOT of miles. Is this noise new or has it been with the car since you bought it? There seems to be some of the story missing. Please add details.
Marc
