They still manufacture it. However the 2nd generation of the new beetle is scheduled to be released in 2010 as a 2011 model.

What does your VW dealer charge for oil Changes?

I live in North York and just got an oil change from the dealership. The cost of the oil change was $88.86. So I was just wondering what other VW people pay when they take it into your dealership. Does the price vary at different locations 'cos I'm looking to pay less for the same job next time. Also, the next time I go in will be my "BIGGER" maintenance 32000km schedule and I think that will cost me an arm and a leg!

That will probably be a tune up and valve adjustment. You can tell them to leave the oil change because you do it yourself."per se". It is none of their business where you get your oil changed at but they will cry that they can't guarantee this and that.....and you can tell them "ya,ya". You can even do the coolant change yourself. It is all in your owners manual as to what they do on the mileage check...so you can do most of it and tell them to do only this and this because you did the rest.
There is nothing anywhere that says the dealer has to do the work. I let them do the fuel injection timing, and head retorquing(as I drive diesel) and compression checking and injector cleaning and maybe check valve lash clearance. Timing belts, I change myself, air cleaners and oil and coolant I do.(because I can)

the beetle never had four doors. Volkswagen DID produce several cars with four doors that ran the same drive system.

For example the 'THING' had 4 doors but was basically a vw bug frame with a different body.

That was the biggest one that I found while I was building my Dune Buggy. I was told that there was a bigger one but I went to the VW nut in North Georgia and he said that he never heard of one bigger.

there are bigger engines , cant remember the cc's but they are called stroker engines.

Thats a pretty good sized air cooled engine. YOu can prob. build up a larger one, but its not one of the smartest moves. Even that size is pushing the limits.

The bigger the engine, the more heat it produces. Thie cooling fins and surface of the engine can only dissipate so much heat. Excessive heat in the block will prematurely wear down surfaces.

There isnt that much difference between your 2498 and a smaller engine, but the smaller one will last a lot longer if you are planning on intensive high rev. driving.

Either way, mount an external oil cooler to handle the problem.

If your just getting into offroad and rails as a everyother weekend thing then a 1914cc in a rail will be fine. considering rails are mostly for dunes, car is light enough that a 1914 will be plenty if not more than enough power. a 1914 with good carbs and youll be happy..

if your more experienced with aircooled engines and rails then go all out build a stroker engine but a engine that size will not make a good daily driver those are more of competition engines. im guessing a 2498 would be a pretty high maintenance engine.

i need to know what parts from the vw beetle, 60's ish, could i use on the karmann ghia. im checking out performance suspension parts for the bug and wondering what i could use. the engines im just going to guess are universal, but i need to know about the suspension more than anything.

The engines, as you note are interchangeable with a few minor issues such as different air cleaners and such.

The knobs, and interior dashboard have many similiar things (such as the steering wheel , front seats, and radios..

But all the body, trim, and frame and supporting elements such as gas tanks, steering, etc... are different. This includes the suspension although I think the brakes and wheel/hubs are the same.

most things are different on a ghia. Wheels are - you can see by rim style. Shocks maybe are interchangeable. Doghouse maybe a different size as well. Really depends on the year differences between the two cars. The nut behind the steering wheel seems to be universal though(and maybe the horn.). Don't be surprized if alot of it don't fit.
