only the manual ones the others are automatic

To answer your question : No, they are not all manual (stick shift). Jetta's are good cars, BTW.

vw makes Chick cars
Inspector182
Just the ones manufactured for people with good driving skills and habits.
spiffer1
Well to answer your question without any sarcasim.. NO.. VW makes cars with automatic transmissions.
BUT.. having said that,.. knowing how to drive a stick shift is a handy skill if you ever get the opportunity to drive a real performance car where you can control the gears, and be able to feather the clutch and brakes.
Secondly.. if you want to buy a VW.. take a look at the OLD classic ones. They are reliable, easy to take care of (something a 16 year old should start to learn) and they are really great for meeting people.
Just don't expect to drift around corners.. (grin).

Ben no they are not all stick shift but you will not regret learning
to drive a stick shift

NO.
Also for the guy that thinks VW's are chick cars, you are wrong.
Ben B
No. Volkswagen makes automatics. I am pretty sure you can get a Jetta S with an automatic. I own a GTI, and it is a manual (stick shift). Personally I think they are more fun to drive in a stick, but whatever.

To Jetta owners or previous Jetta owners?
Ive wanted a Jetta for years. Im selling my SUV and looking into buying the newer body style 2005, 2006 or maybe 2007 Jetta (If I can afford the 07). I know I dont want the Value Edition. Im favoring the 2.5L. Regardless, just wanting to know about experiences you've had with your Jettas. Good and bad. Thanks :) Every bit of info and advice will be helpful

I used to have a 2001 jetta. It was the best car Ive ever had and loved it dearly. No problems at all!

I have an '08 Jetta. SE spec and its a 2.0TDI (I am in the UK). I love it. It's a year old with 17K on the clock and it drives like new. Pulls very well in all gears. Built well and no problems thus far.

I don't have a Jetta but my sister has one. I am not a fan of most imports but i like Jetta's myself. A friend of mine has had many Volkswagen's, the only bad thing i have heard is they are known for electrical problems. If you google problems with Jetta's it will come up. They seem very dependable. Just make sure you get a warranty no matter what.
puppy love!
the tdi is nice my mom has a 05 tdi jetta and it runs good and vws are supposed to run forever but we had some fuel enjector problems the wiring got all sccrewed up but other than that they are great

My wife has a 2005 2.5L which now has 77,000 dependable miles on it . Absolutely bullet-proof car!
Prior car was a New Beetle also a rugged car sold with 90,000 reliable miles on it (we needed a 4-door, thus the 05 Jetta.)
The Jetta has a cavernous trunk that we load up with camping, bike, and kayak gear when we go on vacations. The bikes and kayaks ride on our VW roof-rack (if you decide you need one ,we recommend a genuine rack system from VW, trust us ,there is a difference),
Even with all this 'stuff' in/on our Jetta, we still get excellent gas mileage (unlike my GTI, the Jetta takes regular fuel).
Well, there's our success story. Hope you get a Jetta soon!!

Trade it in for a TVR. You are banging your head against a brick wall.
BARRY B
It could sound better by going through a crusher and putting it out of its misery...

Why on earth are you putting money needlessly into a 15 year old 1 litre entry level vehicle? No one is going to be impressed with a 94 base model Polo i am afraid, no matter what you do to it.
COLIN T
Chuck it in a river, the plop sound it will make is the best sound that piece of scrap is capable of making.
Goofy Goofer Goof Goof Goof !
some brilliant answer fair play. made me p*ss myself lol
anyway, what you could do is half beans for dinner and stick the can on the end of your pipe. like all the other chavs tend toc do. or atleast thats what it looks like.
i agree with the first guy, get a TVR.
if you want a "better" sounding car then TVR is the way to go
unless of corse you like beans

[Best Answer]I have bought and sold many car brands over the years. VW typically does not 'mark up' their cars as other companies do. They offer a superior product and charge a fair price . I know of no car dealer that can take $3,000 off on a $26,000 car. They'd be out of business in a short time.
You deserve a fair price; the dealer deserves a fair profit. Indeed talk them down as much as you can, but dont expect $1000's off MSRP.
Check out Consumer Reports.com for a fair price.
Remember, we live in a supply-and-demand market. Cars such as Jetta TDI are in High Demand. VW can hardly keep up building them.
IMO, Jetta's are worthy cars. Our 2005 has 77K reliable, fun filled miles on it.
BTW, we got $500 off MSRP

There is probably 10% in the car so if you can get that off I'd say you were ok. But in this economy small cars might be getting big numbers. It's not only the price. Dealers make money on the interest rate, warrantys, rust and dust, LIfe and AH. Pin stripes. You could pay cost and they could make 3 grand on you. It's called the back end and it's been very very good to me. I've made as much as 15,000 on a single car.

what kind of antifreeze should i use in my 95 VW golf?
Asked by: calynn113 @ 2009-06-23 07:41:43
Answers ::
prestone premixed.
anti-freeze is a misnomer because it not only prevents freezing it also gives the water a higher boiling point
premixed because it is at a 50/50 solution for optimum cooling and anti freezing
do not use tap water, hence the premixed. tap water contains minerals which over time attach themselves to the inside of your cooling system and can clog it up.
if you cannot find premixed then buy distilled water and use it. being distilled it has no minerals and wont harm your cooling system.
smjohnson55
VW says you must use G 001 100 it's blue and is special made for the aluminum head and block compounds. You can buy OE or a company called Pentosin also makes it.
uthockey32
All name brands are good for most any cars the 50/50 is just
another way to get more money out of you.If you reed the back of
gallon jug it will tell you if mixed half and half it will never freeze. You
end up with 2 gallons antifreeze. The 50/50 you are buying 2 quarts of antifreeze and 2 quarts of water and no the water is not anything
special.Take a empty milk jug wash it out and poor antifreeze into
it until it is half full then fill them both the rest of the way with tap water and it will be fine.
George C
It uses VW blue coolant as previously described; it is a phosphate free coolant that is designed for use in alloy blocks. Most coolant on the market is not phosphate free and are not suitable for the VW.
Don't intermix coolant types; they generally don't mix and can actually cause problems in some cases they will trap air in the cooling system and could cause overheating in the engine.
Hope this helps, a car nut.

Do you think a '70 vw beetle would be a good car to have for your first car?
i'm going to get my license about this time next year and i want to start saving for a car of my own now.
what i want to know is
1.Would the vw beetle be a good car to have as your first car?
2. what would be the price range?
3. Are they safe cars?
4. Are they hard to drive?
and finally
5. I've heard bad stories about vw but what is your opinion about them?
your answers would really help

There are many reasons this is not a good first car.
Expense.... these are antiques... their parts are not like the parts on cars today including the new Bug.
They burn dirty.. meaning they don't have the emission control that cars today have... therefore they burn more gas.
Honestly.... for a first car... get a honda civic, toyota corolla..... if you really want something sporty.... get a honda de sol... they are always on ebay (they don't make them anymore and they didn't make them long so ebay is your best bet).... they are two seaters, good on gas and go and go and go... the thing about a honda is if you change the oil and air filter regularly.... they last forever...low maintenance....... that's my pick for a first car.
Misha
well its a good car if you are somewhat mechanically inclined, but mostly it depends on the engine in the car. vw bugs are extremely simple cars and are very easy and cheap to fix .
a well maintained bug will give you very few problems.
bugs are still very popular cars and a running bug price range is anywhere from 1000- 3000. i wouldn't pay anymore than that. i actually paid $350 for my 70 bug but it wasn't running but a piece of wood ,a hammer and 5 minutes later i was driving it around the block.
bugs are not really safe cars. they have the worst crash test rating.
they arent really hard to drive but they do take some getting used to because they are stick shift.
well if the car has been well maintained then it shouldn't give you any problems but they are fun little cars. Safety really isn't its strong point but if your really paranoid then a roll cage can be installed for a pretty low price. and if you into offroading/ bajabugs then this is a great car for that.
if you want something a little more interesting and still want a bug then i recommend a baja bug.
A bug is more of a hobby.
i recommend you do some research into vw's and the prices of parts for them. they are the cheapest cars to fix.
well if you have any questions feel free to PM me.

OK.. lets hit your questions one at a time
1) It depends on how you define 'good'. If you mean reliable and simple to care for, then the answer is yes. The cars are 30 to 50 years old, but despite that look at how many of them you see on the road. That alone should tell you something. The parts are still readily available and repairs are pretty straightforward. BUT.. they require care.. as in dont forget to change the oil routinely, and keep them well lubricated and such. If you can do this yourself even better.. its generally simple stuff.. and you learn more about your car that way.
2) Price Range: For a good day to day bug from the late 60's on you can expect to pay around $1000. Its cheaper if you find one with a problem you can fix (dents, bad interior, etc..). If you REALLY want to spend money buy a 50's bug fully restored (around $15,000+). The good news is that, if you take care of the car, the value will go UP not down like a rice rocket
3) They are 'OK'.. but have some issues like the gas tank up front (just be sure to get hit in the rear) and they were all mostly made before the US started requiring things like 5mph bumpers and air bags.
4) Easy to drive.. you will love the fact that you can park one with about 6" on each end of the car. Just dont expect to get anywhere fast. Top speed is going to average around 70 - maybe 80 with a tail wind (grin).. but you will have fun getting there.
5) My opinion is that it is a neat car. I restored my 71, and whereever I go, strangers will often come up to me and tell me stories about the bug that they used to have and how they wish they still had it.
.
ca_surveyor
No, they are not a good first car.
The rear engine lay out and suspension design make them very dangerous to drive for a novice especially in the wet
If you buy a cheap one it will cost a fortune to repair and if you pay a lot for one it will still be dangerous to drive. Your chances of buying one with the heater working at all will be remote with no demisters.

Mechanical problems with a car?
My fiancee has a 2003 Chevy Cavalier. The other day, the stupid thing wouldn't start. It wanted to start, but wouldn't turn over. It just kept going rrr-rrr-rrr, but wouldn't actually start. I tried jumping it with my car, but still wouldn't start. So the next day, I looked under the hood, and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. I didn't really touch anything. I maybe touched a wire or two, but nothing that I think would keep the car from starting. But sure enough, after doing nothing, it started just fine. I have no idea what happened, or why it randomly started. I didn't really do anything. But now i'm confused and unsure of if this will happen again. She can't afford to have a car that's not working. Any thoughts?

[Best Answer]only take it somewhere if there are service engine or other diagnostic lights on, if there's no lights they won't be able to read the code, free or not.
I've had similar issues w/my cavalier and my culprit was ignition. One of my coil packs had corroded to the point that one cylander was mis firing quite a bit. I just took steel wool to it and it's been fine since. Your prob doesn't sound like that. It could be the coil packs, plug wires, plugs, ignition switch, weak alternator, bad battery. Anything. Best bet is to start w/the battery. Have it tested at an Auto store, they'll usually do it free. If that's fine, go to the alternator, if that's fine, go to the coil packs, etc.

Take it to a shop have them hook it up to the diagnostic computer and run the codes it where you have to start to find the problem. Why is this in the VW Forum ?

I have a small shop and work on a lot of cars, I have had a lot come in lately with the same symptoms the first 1 stumped me for a while. Long Story short what i have found is that it is only on GM vec that have the side post Batterys. Belive it or not the lead batrery post usely the POS+ is breaking off inside the battery its self, and is still making enought contact to give you about 13vts til you try to start it.
Check your post, i bet 1 of them will pull out & there is your problem. I hope i helped.
