There are easier ways..2-do-that.
Mark M
which part are you talking about?
the shiny finish
or the swirl marks
the shiny finish isnt all caused by the wax
the most important thing to a shiny finish is the surface prep
if i just put that wax on my car without prepping the surface
it wont look like that
KB
I think most are missing the point. Would you call it new/vintage?
bill f
I believe the instructions say "don't wax in direct sun" and "just do a small area at a time".
Ya I know -sometimes the instructions are right!

I had no idea that certain bottles of wax were spliced with nano-flux capacitors! That pic looks awesome by the way... :)

Are 2009 Volkswagen Jettas reliable?
I'm thinking about buying a new 09 Jetta after I graduate college, but I've been hearing many horror stories about VW reliability. I wanted to know what people who currently own an 09 or 08 Jetta have to say about its reliability.

they are very good and well built cars.very comparable to toyota and honda

I own a 2002 Jetta TDI, and I bought my son a 2004 Jetta TDI, and my son-in-law bought a 2003 Jetta TDI, and a co-worker of mine bought a 2000 Jetta TDI after he saw how excellent my 1981 VW Rabbit diesel 5-speed worked. Now, obviously that does not include the model years you're talking about, but I will tell you that if I needed a replacement for my '02 Jetta TDI now, I would, without a second thought, buy a 2009 Jetta TDI. The VW diesel has an incredibly good track record, and the TDI (turbo diesel) is only better than the past diesels, so, you might want to consider spending a bit more for the TDI for incredibly great gas mileage and longevity. But, if you do so choose, please remember that even though the TDI is a turbo-charged diesel, it is STILL A DIESEL, so, the more you drive it like a diesel, the better your results will be. I might add, however, that since VW owns Audi, the TDI has also been put in the Audis, and they are winning and placing very high in international auto races, so, even thought they are diesels, they're blowing the doors off the gasoline powered cars too. But, do remember, I'm talking about diesel powered Jettas and not gasoline powered ones, with which I have no experience. God Bless you.

Volkswagens have always typically been reliable. Unfortuneately the mid 90's and early 2000's weren't good to VW. The automatic Transmisions always had problems, and the brake-light switch typically went out on many mk4 models. From late 2005 VW has a very good product yet again! VW air-cooled beetles will run forever if taken care of. All in all, any 2009 car you buy may develop some kind of problem, but when you go online to Lemon sites that show you how many recalls all auto manufacturers have, VW has some of the least, espacially compared to companies like GM and Kia.

i just bought my 09 jetta se two weeks ago and i love it :)

I am at a loss as to where these so-called 'horror stories' originate.
I own a 2006 GTI which has 40K+ reliable miles on it.
My son has a 2008 Rabbit [Jetta without a trunk] with 15K+ durable miles.
My wife loves her silver 2005 Jetta with 90K+ bullet-proof miles. The '05 Jetta of course has been updated a bit in '09, but basically remains the same. All the above are gasoline engines btw.
My family drives VWs for their knock-down absolutely-refuses-to-break reliabiliy. However, other manufactures can and do provide the same. What differentiates VWs from the common herd is their emotional appeal coupled with stunning performance that stands out in today's humdrum world.
Furthermore, the VW GTI won Car of the Year in Automobile magazine. The staff loved the GTIs screaming turbo and road-hugging ability so much they bought one to 'try out' for a year. By their own admission, it was flogged and whipped unmercifully by editors the entire year. At year's end they still loved it and reported absolutely NO problems!!
So, whether you prefer the quiet stormers [Jettas, Rabbits,Tiguans] or the frenetic buzz-saw wail of a performance turbo [GLI,GTI], VW is our family's only choice.

How do I turn on the radio in my 1999 VW passat? It's on safe mode and I don't have the code?
I bought it as a used car and I don't have the manual for it so I don't have the code

Here is an ad for this service. Might be worth exploring.
Good Luck.

Go to your local dealer he should be able to give you the code with no charge.
Kevin S
Yes, the dealer can retrieve the radio code for you. Don't count on it being a free service, not all dealers are that nice. I think the dealership I work at charges $20 for this.
side with the seeds
if you bought it from a vdub dealer ask them for the code should be in the service history, if not find out where the original selling dealer is and call them for the code. both answers you can get from a vdub dealer service dept based on the VIN # on your registration, also it must be in your name or you will get nothing from them. usually codes will cost more than 20bucks to retrieve but if you get it for that price SWEEEET....
goodluck..
So Cali Guy
Unfortuneately there is NO way to unlock it without the four digit security code. Any official VW dealership will be able to get you the code without any problems at all, provided that the stereo in your car came with that car. The car won't even have to be pulled into the shop! Be careful not to enter the wrong code more than once though, otherwise it will be more complicated and time consuming to unlock it even with the correct code... :)

Is the 2005 Volkswagen Jetta GLI 1.8T timing chain or timing belt?
Asked by: J-Blaze @ 2009-04-12 08:05:37

I think its a timing belt but i dont know im not tha good with Jettas
devansteyn
It has a timing belt that drives the mechanical water pump as well.
James
Belt would be my first guess. Chains are noisy and for the length required would stretch all to H.
Best answer usually the simplest
They still drive the water pump with the timing belt. The assholes.
doane_nut
Timing belt for sure.

i have an old vw beetle that...?
i have an old vw beetle that i have put a 1835 cc motor in and have dual webber carbs and a holley blue electric fuel system.my problem is, i get fuel in my oil really quick.i was told that because i hear the fuel pump constantly running even when pressure is built that it might be the regulator so i changed it and no difference.another thing, when the car runs, the pressure stays at 3 pounds which is where i set it but when the car is off and i turn on the fuel pump, the pressure will go all the way to 9 or 10 pounds,is that normal?i do not know what is up and ive gave you all i know, please help!

I have a '72 Superbeetle so I checked out your question but it's too technical for me. Seems like you are really making your car into a hot rod which sounds like a cool thing.
Snowflake
If the regulator (my first guess) did not fix your problem - look to the carbs. The bowl is overfilling, check how they are jetted. Also, is the engine rebuilt - adding this upgraded fuel system may be more than the rings or valves could handle.
JEANNIE
Did you take the Webers apart and clean them, you need to set the float level as well. Even if they are brand new. Go here and use the search feature before asking questions.

You really need to set that electric fuel pump up with an oil pressure shutoff or you will continue to have problems. (pump only runs with the engine having oil pressure.)
I ran into the engine off -high fuel pressure -from an electric pump before. Some of those were only good to go when the engine was running. It is clearly over powering your needle and seats.

What transmission oil do i use for my 1999 VW Passat GLS 4 cylinder?
i bought a used car and i dont have a owners manual
Asked by: sonja @ 2009-04-11 10:49:52
Answers ::
Look on your transmission's dip stick. The type of transmission oil you need should be stamped on it.
If not when you go to buy transmission fluid go to an automotive parts house and ask one of the associates what type you need.
You can also purchase a manual there as well that covers types of oil and fluids as well as a lot of repairs up to and including engine rebuild.
JUAN FRAN$$$
i believe it's Dexron III
VW only uses a long life antifreeze, Pentosin p/n: G0012000
sold by the litre!
Eric F
call a local vdub dealer to find out the proper kind it could be one of two..
1- generic kind you could buy at any parts house
2- the good stuff only able to purchase from the dealer its synthetic type,
for your pocket books sake hope its the first one and never take it all out and replace it all new your dub will never run the same the bands are self adjusting in the trans and adjust to the fluid so if it is really thin as new fluid is the trans will not adjust back only as it thickens
So Cali Guy
All wrong answers: you must obtain the fluid at your local VW-Audi dealership. It's a special fluid that runs between 14-22 per quart to purchase (depending upon dealership). Put the wrong the fluid in and you'll probably cause the transmission to shift oddly at best, at worst, destroy the internals.
Hope this helps, a car nut.

That year range had the 1600 carb engine with (B) motor at 47 horse power in 1970. In Aug they came out with the (AE) 1600 at50 hp. Both "Old style" upright motors.
The (CB) 1700 dual carb jumped to 66 hp in 1971 (first pancake)
But by 72 the (CD) was reduced to 62 hp.
Then EFI showed up in the (AW) 1800 engine in Aug of 73. This pushed the HP back up to 68 HP.
Then the variants started to show up- with some having big exhaust valves, minor ignition curve changes- air pumps/ catalytic converters and all the way up to the 2000 cc engine.
In short, there is no air cooled VW bus that has no trouble with hills (mountains).
While the big EFI engines did have some power- you paid for it in reliability problems. They were real expensive and did not just drop into a bus, but were replacement engines for one that had one there originally.
There are so many rebuilders, I would suggest you do a search and fine one near you. Rebuilds for the old style are running $2000. for a drop in. If you have a core that can be rebuilt, that may be the way to go.

68-71 used a Beetle type1 engine. In 72 North American Bus's came with a type 4 First 1700cc then 1800cc these used carbs, then in 75? the were FI and 76? they were 2.0 liter. Go here for more info.

There is a guy here that put a v6 in his.

If you put a non original engine in yours you better know what your doing because no mechanic is gonna be able to figure out how to service it. They will have to figure out what the builder did every time it needs trouble shooting. An application like that will have parts from different car makers, Fuel pump from a Buick, ECU from a VW Rabbit, throttle body from a Ford and a home made wiring harness.
