Tell him that it will keep you very safe in any collision/accident.
I have a '98 New Beetle, and frequent an online club where NB owners gather from all over the world. We have heard (and seen pictures of) many instances where people walked away from very bad crashes because they were driving a bug. Check out the free forum below, and you will learn many fun and interesting things about your beetle. Hope to see you there :) As for the haters, I've heard all sorts of opinions, but I don't care because my car makes me smile.

Well somebody thought it was sexy enough to get it pregnant right?
Phil
Depends, do you have an aircooled or watercooled? I can come up with an array of good comebacks if it's an aircooled.
Prime
Don't be upset, he is right. The new VW beetle does look like a pregnant roller skate.
Just be happy that he did not say that you look like a pregnant roller skate driving it.
Regrettably, sometimes the truth hurts and you just have to accept it.

I doubt if you'll get one in running order for less than £2000 - they are much sought after sorry.
Now - spit
they are very hard found , and when you do the work that they need often pushes up the price well beyond the value that anyone other than a collector would be willing to pay . If you are really keen to own one look up the vw collectors web site and other associated sites for hints and info on where to purchase
Max Power says relax
They're easy enough to find, ebay's got loads of 'em. Look in the classic car section.
'Cheap' is another matter. A cheap Beetle is one which needs a lot of work doing to it and unless you're handy with a welding gun, it'll cost big bucks to put a cheap one right. Budget on at least £1500-£2000, and spend nearer £4000 if you can.
EvelynThe ModifiedDog.
there was a dealer in the north of scotland who sold beetles,, but you wont get a cheap beetle unless its in need of a restoration,,
syco noodles
In short, you won't pick up a cheap beetle any more unless it's an absolute pile of scrap. Remember, many are now over forty years old & you really need to know what you're looking at before parting with any cash.

How much horse power can you get out of a 1600 Vw engine?
Asked by: VW Guy @ 2009-05-30 23:53:02
Answers ::
1,600 - it is in the model name i think
Steven
It's around 75bhp standard. Depends how long you want it to last. You could probably double that with a turbo and maybe nitrous.
GibsonEssGee
lol why would you want to imports are crap american muscle hey look at me i got a vw
meteorman77
Fully balanced and blueprinted engines can achieve up to 320bhp, with intake and exhaust mods...normally aspirated, which is amazing for such a small motor!
Zachariah
A stock 1600 will put out about 70hp. You can bump the HP up to around 100 without doing any major engine modifications by adding a different intake, two barrel carb, hi performance exhaust, Bosch 009 distributor and a hi performance coil. These mods will run you close to $1000 and still be a reliable daily driver. If you want more horse power than that you can pull the engine and have it balanced and blueprinted, change the pistons and cylinders, have the heads reworked, run a turbo, run nitrous. It's possible to get 300 hp out of a 1600, but it would only be good for maybe a dozen passes down the track.

where are motors found in a vw beetle?
Asked by: Ralph @ 2009-05-29 16:22:29

They are in the back of the vehicle
doc
rear of the old ones, front of the new ones.
AsYLum dRiVeR
Old air cooled beetle the engine was in the rear.
And the new beetle the engine is in the front.................md
Uncle Jed
You're serious, right? You find the engine in the back, thus the term "rear engine". Do not put any form of cargo in the engine compartment, put it in the front. The gas is on the right, the brake is in the middle, and the clutch is on the right. The big circular thing in your face makes the car steer. The big stick sticking up at you is the shifter. The thing that looks like a clock tells you how fast you are going. Now remember, you have to push the gas to go, the brake and the clutch to stop, and the clutch to shift.

Depending on the Beetle.
The old air-cooled Beetles which went out of production in the USA in 1977 because it did not pass safety and emission standards had their engines in the rear of the car and were rear wheel drive..
New Beetles have water-cooled engines and these are fitted in the front of the car and are front wheel drive.

Does Volkswagon have any plans for a hybrid vehicle?
Just wondering : )

In fact, they do. Volkswagen has made so many diesel cars, so they plan on making hybrids again. (I added the word "again" just because they made hybrids a long time ago.) They still have a great reason, though.
I recommend the Volkswagen Jetta TDI. It is fuel efficient and also turbocharged.
Deborah B
Not at the moment. And if you're worried about the environment because you are pussy you should walk instead of complaining about cars.
Eric
No hybrid. Past that
Full electric with the longest extension cord you will ever see. (the Taser-wagen) A real heart stopper.
Also another one that will run on sewage. (the Schitz-wagen). Goes like stink.
They already have one that runs on alcohol (the SchLitz-vagen). It can carry a party of people.
Best answer is usually simple
Wouldn't Volkswagen be pronounced Wolksvagen?
Just wondering because it is a German company and with German pronunciation, it would be pronounced Wolksvagen (V in place of W and W in place of V)?
Thanks

It would be wrong. You see, "volks" means peoples in German while "wagen" means car. It must be spelled correctly and accurately, so everyone in the world must know how to pronunce it correctly. There wouldn't be such German words as "Wolks" and "Vagen". And, please be careful with spelling and pronunciation. Thank you.
Deborah B
No, I do not know where you are from, but for the majority of people Volkswagen is pronounced correctly (you have to exclude the likes of the Scots, etc. from this. Even the English can't understand them speaking English). So unless you have some sort of peculiar accent then there is nothing wrong with the way the majority of English speakers pronounce the word.

Please tell me you are a bug expert?
So It's hotter than hell and i need to keep my doors open to keep the house cool. Well, a bug got in and it's huge and it flies and is creepy. Of course i caught it in a tupperware and gave it a name, but now i'm just wondering what kind of bug it is and if it is poisonous or anything.
It has a long slender body, greenish wings, a ring of red/orange around it's neck, a strip of red/orange down the bottom side of his body. Two antennas on the head and what appears to be 2 antennas on it's butt too but my friend thinks they are stingers.
Also, i live in Spokane, washington if that helps. thanks.

The fact that you live in Spokane could explain why you put this question under the Cars and Transportation category instead of, say, Science and Mathematics (i.e. entomology), or Home and Garden.

The only bug experts in this forum would be for VW bugs. BTW I lived in Spokane for 16 years. Loved it there.
Shane A
It's a species of wood boring beetle and they aren't stingers. It's part of their sexual equipment that they use to deposit their eggs into holes in trees.
They are totally harmless.
FUGLY
Yer in the wrong section. This is for Volkswagens. I'm a Volkswagen Type 1 expert, but not a bug expert
